Strongest Necromancer System Chapter 1080: Pledge Your Allegience

"What’s this, Rak’hael? Don’t tell me you’re actually worried about me. I didn’t know you cared so much."

Rak’hael’s frown deepened even more when Jason said this, and she spat out her next words in annoyance!

"I do not care about your foolishness. But you are an important part of this council and the strongest member of your domain. All your power will not help you against the Celestial, and risking your life for something so uncertain is only going to leave the rest of us dealing with the aftermath alone."

If Jason died to the Celestial of Death, then his domain would immediately be without a leader, and there was a high chance it would be filled with mercenaries very quickly! And since the members of the council were all so busy right now, they would not have time to appoint a new Overlord anytime soon, and that would only make the sixth domain even more vulnerable! It was obvious that Jason’s death would make the sixth domain into an ungovernable wasteland!

Jason just huffed slightly, and he said that he would be fine.

"I understand that there is a lot of risk attached to this, but I don’t really see anyone else coming up with a solution that can stop the Celestial of Death. We’ve all heard about the incalculable death toll that occurred during the Celestial Hunt a few millennia ago. Are you trying to suggest we go through another one of those?"

This managed to immediately shut Rak’hael up, and she turned away in annoyance as she realised that Jason was right. There was no known method to stop the Celestial of Death, and the fact that Jason was willing to risk his life to carry out this mad attempt was literally their best bet right now! But Rak’hael just couldn’t see herself agreeing with Jason’s plan! It was far too insane! The other members of the council were also silent as they realised that Jason was right! Jason’s plan was risky for him, but it was even more risky to attempt another Celestial Hunt! Jason looked over all of them calmly, and Jason made sure that they all understood the position they were currently in before he spoke up:

"I have faith that this method is going to work, and I am certain I can stop the Celestial of Death. But before I go ahead with this, I want some reassurances from all the members of the council."

This statement immediately made all the council members pay attention again, and they turned to look at Jason curiously! Jason leaned back in his seat and looked over the entire room before he spoke calmly.

"I will be risking my life and the future of my entire domain to try and stop a creature that affects all of us. In the event that I succeed, I would like you all to make a pledge of equivalent value towards the Sixth Domain, as thanks for the services rendered."

Shock passed over the entire room once they heard what Jason said, and it was Rak’hael who spoke up first!

"You’re asking us to pay you to stop the Celestial of Death!?"

Rak’hael stood up angrily as her mana surged, and even though she wasn’t present in the room, it was easy to tell that she was very close to exploding! The other members of the council weren’t very different either, and many of them wondered if something like this was reasonable at all! Jason was going to be helping his domain as well by stopping the Celestial, so why should they have to pay him? Jason leaned forward and spoke up when he saw the looks of disbelief on the faces of all his colleagues.

"I do not appreciate doing this as much as any of you, but I feel it is necessary for all of us to understand what exactly is happening here. I am going to be risking my life and the life of my partner to save the lives of your own people. This is not a favour that any of you will take lightly, and if it works, I do not believe it is an overstatement to say that I would’ve singlehandedly saved hundreds of billions – if not trillions of people. Frankly speaking, you will owe me a great debt, and I intend to collect."

Jason was not mincing words at all at that moment! Jason knew that it looked a bit greedy to be asking the other Overlords to pay him for taking care of the Celestial of Death, but Jason was not some bleeding-hearted good guy who would walk into the jaws of death and save the entire world while asking for nothing in return! That was just not who he was! Jason was simply making sure the other Overlords knew exactly what it was that he was doing for them at this moment!

Val’kat the goblin spoke up.

"So what will you do if we refuse to honor your demand? Will you allow the Celestial of Death to ravage the rest of the Primordial Expanse and kill billions for your greed?"

"You’re the last person I want to hear talking about greed, Val’kat."

Jason turned to the goblin Overlord with a frown, and Val’kat narrowed his eyes at Jason in return! Everyone knew just how greedy goblins were, and as the leader of the goblins, Val’kat was undoubtedly the greediest of them all! Val’kat was the sort of person who would sell his own mother if it meant he could make a little more money! Jason kept his hard gaze on Val’kat for a few long seconds before he turned away and spoke.

"Make no mistake, I will stop the Celestial. But I just want you all to understand what this is. It is not a joint effort carried out by all the domains, nor is it a desperate last stand by the most powerful mages of our worlds. It is me putting my life on the line for the sake of your people."

Rak’hael shook her head.

"You’ve gone mad –"

"Hahah! That is good! A man must claim what is rightfully his!"

The loud voice of Baron Skarr, ruler of the Draconians of the Fourth Domain, echoed through the hall and interrupted Rak’hael before she could continue. The other Overlords turned to see Baron Skarr grinning at Jason in pride! Baron Skarr was a very prideful dragon, and he understood the importance of staking your claim on what you believe is your right! If Jason could really stop the Celestial of Death on his own, then it was obvious that they would all owe him a great deal!

"I swear on my honor as the Overlord of the Fourth Domain. If you can stop the Celestial of Death and save my people from this disaster, then I will owe you a great debt equivalent to the lives which have been saved! Should you ever need my help, I will rally an army of billions to stand behind you!"

Baron Skarr spoke up with the boisterous intensity of a man who was used to risking his life! It was not a small thing for a dragon to promise something so great to anyone, and the other Overlords were stunned when they realised that Baron Skarr was not playing around at all! What Baron Skarr had just done was to give Jason the assurance that he would be on Jason’s side if anyone ever went against him in the future! And when that sort of promise came from a prideful man like Baron Skarr, then you knew it was serious!

The Baron turned to Jason to see if Jason would accept this pledge, and Jason nodded his head once in appreciation. This was good enough.
