Fang Cheng narrowed his eyes slightly, his gaze sweeping across the face of the temple priestess.
Her eyes were dark-rimmed, and her skin had a sickly sallow color.
The entire person clearly exuded fatigue from long nights or mental exhaustion.
"Do you know me?"
Fang Cheng asked in a deep voice.
The temple priestess shook her head forcefully, responding dryly, "No, I don’t know you."
Pan Wendi stepped forward, his tall and sturdy figure just blocking the space between Fang Cheng and the temple priestess.
He slightly raised his chin, a hint of wariness in his tone:
"Sister, since we don’t know each other, how do you know my buddy’s name? What advice do you have for him?"
The temple priestess was intimidated by Pan Wendi’s presence, her shoulders shrinking as she hurriedly stepped back half a step.
She anxiously twisted the hem of her robe with her hands, murmuring:
"I... I mean no harm."
Her voice was very low, yet her gaze uncontrollably slipped past Pan Wendi’s shoulder, fixating on Fang Cheng’s face.
It seemed like she was still confirming something.
"My name is Chen Su, I am a local on this island, usually doing odd jobs in this temple, like cleaning statues, changing incense sticks, and arranging flowers."
Chen Su swallowed a bit of saliva, lowering her head to avoid Pan Wendi’s scrutinizing look.
After hearing Chen Su introduce herself, Fang Cheng raised his hand, patting Pan Wendi’s shoulder to signal him to step aside.
Then, he calmly met Chen Su’s somewhat fearful and expectant gaze, nodding in response:
"I am Fang Cheng. Have we met before on the island?"
Upon hearing Fang Cheng acknowledge the name, Chen Su’s chest heaved dramatically, then she let out a long breath.
Her whole body relaxed as if a thousand-pound boulder pressing on her shoulders for days had been lifted off.
"No, never met, not in reality."
Chen Su shook her head, her voice still dry, but her gaze gradually cleared:
"But, I’ve seen you in my dreams."
"In your dreams?"
Pan Wendi raised one eyebrow, just about to sarcastically comment on this old-fashioned pick-up line.
However, seeing the temple priestess’s solemn and even somewhat reverent expression, he swallowed back the joke that was on the tip of his tongue.
A mountain wind swept through the courtyard, rustling the red wish plaques hung on the ancient banyan tree.
Fang Cheng didn’t rush to ask questions, merely standing quietly in place.
His gaze was sharp, subtly observing Chen Su’s breathing rhythm, watching her throat move as she continuously swallowed due to excessive nervousness.
This was the most genuine physiological reaction when an ordinary person confronted something beyond their understanding.
The farmer woman before him had no hint of superpower fluctuations nor any sign of being specially trained.
"Sister, your words are getting stranger. What exactly are you trying to express? Giving us a dream interpretation here in broad daylight?"
Pan Wendi rubbed his chin, unable to resist butting in.
Chen Su interlaced her hands in front of her, wringing them tightly.
She looked up, glancing past the threshold at the compassionate and solemn statue of the Sea Queen in the main hall, then refocused on Fang Cheng.
"I know this sounds very absurd. If I hadn’t really seen you outside this hall today, I might have gone to the hospital for a psychiatric check, thinking I’ve gone hysterical."
Chen Su’s voice trembled slightly, then she explained:
"Around half a month ago, I started having the same dream every night. Once I hit the pillow and close my eyes, it felt like an unseen force was dragging me down deeper and deeper into the ocean..."
Talking to this point made her chest tighten, instinctively taking a deep breath as if she could still feel the oppressive sensation from the dream.
Fang Cheng’s gaze remained calm like water, his tone soothing as he encouraged:
"It’s okay, continue."
Chen Su calmed her mood slightly, continuing slowly:
"In the dream, I kept diving deeper, where it was very dark, the sea was cold to the bone, yet I didn’t feel suffocated and could open my eyes underwater."
"Until reaching the deepest part of the ocean, there stood a huge blue light dome, filled with a pile of collapsed stone houses, those pillars from the temple are dozens of times thicker, seeming like an Undersea Ancient City abandoned for tens of thousands of years."
Chen Su recalled the dream details while clumsily gesturing, trying to depict the magnificent scene to Fang Cheng.
"In the deepest part of that city’s ruins, there was a door emitting Mysterious Blue Light, and in front of it stood a very large shadow."
Upon hearing this, Fang Cheng’s pupils slightly contracted, flashbacks of familiar scenes flitting across his mind.
Even the previously somewhat indifferent Pan Wendi quieted down, crossing his arms with a frowning concentration.
"What does the shadow look like?" Fang Cheng prompted.
"I couldn’t see clearly, only knew it was enormous, even looking up I could only see her dress hem."
Chen Su swallowed, her forehead covered in fine beads of sweat, recalling that image seemed to take a great mental toll.
"It must have been the shadow of a woman, dressed exactly like the wave-patterned gown of the Sea Queen statue in the hall."
"I believe it was the Sea Queen sending dreams. She didn’t open her mouth, but the voice could bypass the ears, directly entering my mind."
"What did she say to you?" Fang Cheng pressed.
"She told me that a significant person would visit the temple to offer incense soon, instructing me to pay close attention to the visitors climbing the mountain while working at the temple."
