Ye Chen followed the butler into the kitchen and walked inside.
"Mr. Ye, there’s every kind of ingredient in the fridge, feel free to use them," the butler said with a smile.
"Thank you, there’s nothing left for you to do here, you can go ahead and get busy," Ye Chen replied with a nod.
After the butler left, Ye Chen opened the fridge and took a look, indeed the ingredients were incredibly plentiful, you could say it had everything.
Ye Chen knew that elderly people like Master Su preferred vegetarian food, were not too fond of meat, and generally had a preference for light flavors.
So he selected some vegetarian dishes, ones that were easier to chew, such as winter melon, tomatoes, and potatoes.
Looking at these vegetables before him, Ye Chen had already decided that dinner tonight would be four dishes and one soup since only Master Su and he were dining, making too much would be wasteful.
He donned his apron and took out the ingredients he planned to use, and started to work.
In less than an hour, Ye Chen had served up four dishes and one soup.
While Ye Chen was cooking, Master Su was outside watching all along, observing Ye Chen wash vegetables, stir-fry, and make soup, with a smile on his face.
He could tell that Ye Chen was indeed a man who could handle daily life, and his granddaughter would not suffer any grievances being with him.
"Grandpa, the food is ready, come over and eat," Ye Chen said as he entered the living room, seeing Master Su dozing on the sofa.
"Oh, the food is ready, so quickly? Little Chen, did I just fall asleep? Ah, getting old really makes one useless, always feeling tired," Master Su said looking at Ye Chen.
"Grandpa, please don’t say that, it’s quite normal," Ye Chen hurriedly reassured him.
Master Su was helped to the dining table by Ye Chen, looking at the winter melon stew, tomato scrambled eggs, curry potatoes, and scallion tofu, along with the egg in the center, he couldn’t help but feel hungry.
"Little Chen, your cooking skills are really good, these dishes are appealing in color, aroma, and taste, they make people very hungry. Hurry and sit down to eat," Master Su nodded in satisfaction.
However, Ye Chen did not sit down as he said, instead, he waited for Master Su to sit down before taking his own seat.
Master Su used chopsticks to taste the dishes on the plate, savoring them. It had to be said that although Ye Chen made simple vegetarian dishes, the feeling they imparted was quite extraordinary.
"Delicious, truly delicious. Little Chen, if you have time, come visit me, accompany me, and cook for me. I haven’t eaten like this for a long time," Master Su said.
"Grandpa, just call me whenever you want, I’m always available," Ye Chen replied with a smile.
The butler standing by agreed with what Master Su said, since usually Master Su ate very little, often just taking a bite of each dish. But today was different, not only did he eat more of the dishes, but he also ate over a bowl of rice.
The butler looked at the four dishes in front of him, finding nothing magical about them. Yet Master Su ate so much, it was truly perplexing.
"Grandpa, I’ll serve you a bowl of chicken soup, give it a taste," Ye Chen took the ladle and filled a bowl, placing it in front of Master Su.
"No, just looking at it makes me feel greasy; at my age, I should eat light. I won’t drink this soup," Master Su politely declined.
"Grandpa, just try a sip. If you find it greasy, then don’t drink anymore. How about that?" Ye Chen proposed.
Since Ye Chen said it like that, Master Su felt it would be inappropriate to reject him.
Master Su took a spoonful and put it in his mouth, expecting to find it difficult to swallow due to the soup’s greasiness; yet surprisingly, the chicken soup wasn’t greasy at all, but rather had a refreshing taste.
Simply deciding the spoon wasn’t enough, he lifted the bowl and drank it down directly.
After finishing one bowl, he handed the bowl to Ye Chen and said, "Little Chen, this soup is really delicious. Please serve me another bowl."
Ye Chen had just served Master Su when he raised his neck and drank again, leaving the butler at the side stunned.
When Master Su asked for soup a third time, Ye Chen refused, saying, "Grandpa, you’ve had quite a bit already, that’s enough."
Upon Ye Chen’s refusal, Master Su acted a bit spoiled, "Little Chen, just half a bowl more, okay?"
Ye Chen couldn’t quite refuse the elder who behaved like a child in front of him, helplessly serving another half bowl, saying, "This is the last, no more."
After finishing, Master Su nodded contentedly.
He had never eaten so heartily, not only consuming a lot of dishes but also drinking a lot of soup. There was even a lingering feeling of desire for more.
Although Master Su still wanted to eat, he knew well his age; eating too much would definitely be uncomfortable, so he restrained himself.
"Little Chen, accompany me for a chat," Master Su suddenly proposed.
Ye Chen had originally planned to leave after eating, but hearing Master Su say this, he felt it wouldn’t be polite to leave.
"Alright, Grandpa, why don’t we take a walk outside?" Ye Chen suggested.
Master Su walked out accompanied by Ye Chen, and it had to be said, the manor was exceptionally large.
Ye Chen walked until his legs felt tired, yet the manor still wasn’t fully explored.
As they walked and chatted, Master Su and Ye Chen went from discussing astronomy to geography, from ancient times to modern eras.
No matter what topic Master Su brought up, Ye Chen could follow along and even share his thoughts, which made Master Su appreciate the young man before him even more.
Now Master Su had an even better impression of Ye Chen; he even thought it wasn’t Ye Chen who had climbed up socially, but rather his granddaughter who perhaps didn’t quite match Ye Chen’s level.
At this moment, Ye Chen’s phone rang; taking a look, he found it was Su Wanyi calling.
"Honey, where are you? I miss you, why aren’t you home yet?" Su Wanyi pouted over the phone.
She had originally thought Ye Chen would be at home by now, but upon returning home, the room was dark, with no sign of Ye Chen, so she decided to call him.
"Wanyi, I’m at Grandpa’s place. Be good and stay at home, I’ll be back soon," Ye Chen spoke quietly.
Because Ye Chen’s voice was soft, Su Wanyi couldn’t quite hear what he was saying, wondering why Ye Chen wasn’t speaking loudly to her.
After saying this, Ye Chen quickly hung up the phone, not wanting Master Su to know it was Su Wanyi calling, otherwise, he’d surely urge him to go back.
He felt a unique affinity with this old man and realized how lonely Master Su was; he wanted to spend more time accompanying him.
