SSS Awakening: Rebirth of the Strongest Vampire God Chapter 809: God Killer

Ding! You have obtained the mythic title [God Killer].
Damon stared at the notification, then glanced at the shriveled corpse hanging from his blood tendrils. Seeing those words somehow made the whole thing feel more real. He had killed a god, swallowed his soul, and earned a title for the trouble.
“God Killer,” he muttered, trying it out with a grin. “Yeah, I can work with that.”
God Killer: Gods are entities worshipped by countless beings, their power so vast that mortals can scarcely comprehend it. Yet you have slain one, proving that even a god can become prey. Your attacks deal increased damage to divine beings, and your resistance to divine pressure is enhanced. Gods who perceive this title will recognize what you have done. Some may fear you. Others will seek to ensure you never repeat it.
Damon snorted and closed the system screen. At this point, just about anyone was lining up to kill him, so who cared.
Still absorbing everything around him, including the God’s corpse and the corrupted dragon, Damon was thinking about his next move. He needed to act soon. Time was of the essence.
Before everyone in the cosmos comes hunting for him, he needed to make himself considerably harder to kill. This god had practically handed himself over, mistaking Damon for a mindless corrupted being and letting him get close enough to bury a hand in his stomach.
The next one might have the good sense to attack from a distance, and Damon would rather not discover how well his new body handled divine bombardment.
“La Rocha! Do you have any updates for me, bud? Or should I just go after someone else randomly?”
La Rocha sighed. “Master, it looks like I can no longer convince you to stop this madness. In this case, I will gladly empower you with anything you want. I have managed to locate another God. I will set up the teleportation formation for that world.”
“Alright, let’s go.”
La Rocha quickly finished the preparations, and the teleportation circle was ready to be activated. Just as Damon was about to leave, he noticed something lying a few feet away. His eyes widened as he rushed toward the object lying casually on what remained of the world.
It was a small, ordinary ring without any gemstone or engravings, but when Damon approached it, he felt his divine senses slide across its surface without finding a way inside. Damon stopped and looked at it more carefully. Everything around the ring had been broken, burned, or drained of its power, yet the plain metal band didn’t have a single scratch.
He picked it up between two fingers and immediately felt a faint resistance. A trace of the dead god’s presence clung to it, weak but stubborn, refusing to let his consciousness pass through. Damon recognized the sensation and grinned.
“There you are. I was wondering whether you carried anything besides that enormous fucking ego.”
La Rocha rolled his eyes. “Master, you think you can randomly show up at any God’s door and slaughter them like they are pigs and chickens. His ego is not bigger than yours.”
Damon laughed. “Buddy, I am not arrogant. I am desperate. Sometimes there is no difference between the two. Check out this ring. How do I activate it? Wait. On second thought… maybe if I just flood it with origin energy…”
Damon did just that and immediately the last signs of struggle disappeared and he could feel the will of the ring submit to him.
[Ding! You have successfully bound the Ring of Divine Retribution.]
[Grade: Legendary]
[Ring of Divine Retribution: Absorbs a portion of the energy from attacks endured by the wearer and stores it for retaliation. The accumulated power can be released in a concentrated strike.]
[Stored Charge: 100%]
Damon clicked his tongue. What an amazing ring! A legendary item! Finally! He quickly equipped it.
The band tightened around his finger until it fit perfectly, and Damon immediately felt the power stored within it. His grin widened as he examined the connection. All he had to do was choose a target and release it, which was exactly the sort of uncomplicated destruction he could appreciate.
“So that bastard was charging this while we fought?” he asked, turning his hand to admire the ring.
“Possibly. He may also have filled it before arriving,” La Rocha replied.
“Well, his loss.” He lifted his hand toward a distant fragment of the shattered world, then paused before activating the ring. Testing it would be satisfying, but finding something else capable of filling it might involve getting beaten half to death. He lowered his arm and turned toward the teleportation formation instead.
“Let’s save it for someone who deserves it.”
La Rocha stepped aside as Damon entered the circle. Symbols brightened beneath his feet, and he felt space begin to tighten around him. He pulled the last of his blood tendrils back into his body, swallowing the remaining power they carried before glancing at La Rocha.
“So, what do we know about this next god?”
“My God, he is by no means weak. You will be facing a real monster this time. I am begging you again, master. Please reconsider your path.”
“A monster I cannot defeat?”
La Rocha shook his head. “No, my God. If that was the case I would have never suggested him in the first place. According to my calculations you should have a 70% chance of winning.”
“Seventy percent? Buddy, the way you were talking, I thought we were going there to pick out my grave.”
“That still leaves a thirty percent chance of failure, Master.”
“Yeah, I know how percentages work.”
“I am not entirely convinced you understand what failure means in this case.” La Rocha glanced toward the remains scattered beyond the formation. “You are already thinking about what you will gain from killing him. I would prefer you spend a moment considering what happens if he kills you.”
Damon chuckled. He understood perfectly well. He had felt the last god’s fingers sinking into his skull, and remembering how close they had come to crushing it wasn’t particularly difficult.
“Does your calculation include the Origin Energy I just absorbed?”
“It does.”
“And the ring?”
La Rocha hesitated. “I have not yet determined its stored power accurately enough to include it.”
“Then we’ve got a little extra.” Damon lifted his hand and looked at the plain band. “What’s the biggest problem?”
“His weapon. A spear. You will have difficulty approaching him, and unlike the god you just killed, he is accustomed to fighting opponents capable of harming him.”
Damon slowly nodded as La Rocha filled him in on more details. But in the end, he still activated the teleportation circle.
“Master…”
“Hmmm. You have done a good job. Thank you. This fight will be a true test for me. If I win here… then nothing can stop us. But if I loose this fight…”
Damon chuckled again as the teleportation portal activated and he disappeared from the world.
