Damon plans to hunt and devour gods for power, much to La Rocha's dismay. Ignoring La Rocha's concerns about karma, Damon uses his bloodline ability to travel the cosmos in search of a powerful divine being. He arrives at a vibrant, energy-rich world and finds his target: a colossal dragon the size of a continent, preparing to devour the planet.

Damon activated his bloodline, and the torrent dragging him toward the dragon shuddered. Mana twisted between them as a second devouring force tore into the first, pulling apart the streams of energy rushing toward that enormous mouth.

Two storms began gathering above the shattered continent, each dragging everything within reach toward its center.

The dragon seethed in rage. Until a moment ago, everything had been flowing into its mouth, but now nearly half that energy was rushing toward the tiny figure hovering before it. Its crimson eyes narrowed as Damon spread his arms and drew in another enormous mouthful.

Now Damon’s became bigger.

“What?” Damon grinned at it. “You weren’t going to finish all this anyway.”

The dragon’s throat swelled, and the golden lines between its scales blazed with light. Its devouring force intensified so abruptly that Damon lurched forward, his own vortex stretching toward the enormous jaws. Mountains that had been caught between the two forces exploded into dust, while the rivers rising from the ground scattered into clouds of vapor.

Damon clenched his teeth and pushed more. His vortex expanded again, wrenching back the streams of energy he had nearly lost, and the pressure between them became strong enough to send thin cracks crawling through the surrounding space.

Holy shit, he was actually doing it.

Damon could feel an absurd amount of energy pouring into him. His body absorbed it greedily. Unfortunately, the dragon seemed considerably more familiar with its own abilities.

It shifted its head slightly, and its enormous vortex tilted with it. Damon felt the change but didn’t understand what it meant until the streams feeding his own storm suddenly twisted around one another. The energy he had been drawing toward himself began circling him instead, tightening into an enormous rotating shell.

He tried to pull the energy back under his control, only to discover that the dragon was still feeding power into it. Everything he swallowed was immediately replaced, and the shell kept shrinking around him. Through the swirling mana, he caught sight of an enormous claw rising toward his position.

Damon abandoned the contest and shot upward.

The claw closed around the lower half of his vortex, crushing the gathered energy between its talons. The resulting explosion caught him across the back and hurled him through the clouds. He managed to turn before a second claw swept toward him, ducking beneath a talon so large that several cities could have been built along its length.

“Alright, fine. You win. You are the better devourer. I definitely do not have the same control as you over my bloodline skills.”

Not bothering with the devouring tactics anymore, Damon jumped directly to using the newest skill in his toolkit. He tugged at the origin energy that curled inside him.

It responded immediately, unwinding from the depths of his body and flowing toward his right hand. Damon had used mana countless times before, but this felt completely different. Even the tiny amount he drew out made his arm grow heavy, as though his flesh was struggling to contain something that had no business being inside it.

A faint glow spread across his knuckles. Damon stared at it for a moment, then glanced at the continent-sized dragon approaching him with its jaws open.

The beast instantaneously condensed all of that energy, and right now, a blinding sphere was forming between its jaws. The last remnants of the two storms vanished into it, leaving the surrounding sky strangely clear.

Damon felt the pressure against his skin multiply as the sphere shrank, its surface growing brighter with every passing instant. However, it was still not nearly comparable to the origin energy in his grasp.

“Alright, let’s do it!” Damon roared and flew forward, driving his glowing fist straight toward the blinding sphere as the dragon released it. The dragon was throwing the whole world at him, and really, there was no way to dodge it.

He also did not want to. He wanted to see for himself how the Origin Energy compared to this insane amount of mana. If he backed away every time something looked dangerous, he would never figure out what his new body could actually do.

“Alright, let’s do it!” Damon roared and flew forward, driving his glowing fist straight toward the blinding sphere as the dragon released it.

The collision stopped him in midair. Golden light flooded his vision, and for a brief instant, he felt the immense weight of everything the dragon had swallowed pressing against his knuckles. Then the Origin Energy pushed through, and the sphere caved inward around his fist.

Damon’s eyes widened as cracks spread across its surface. He had barely begun to straighten his arm when the entire attack ruptured, releasing enough energy to tear apart everything for thousands of kilometers.

The blast caught him across the chest, but the power gathered around his hand continued forward, carving a passage through the explosion.

He shot through the opening before he could think better of it. The dragon’s enormous jaws filled his vision, still open from releasing the attack, and Damon drove his fist into the flesh above its lower fangs. This time, he felt almost no resistance.

The Origin Energy left his knuckles and plunged into the dragon’s jaw.

Purple scales bulged outward along the underside of its head. Golden lines flashed across them, only to break apart as a bloody hole erupted through the armored flesh. The dragon’s head snapped upward, dragging the rest of its immense body with it, and the roar that followed struck Damon hard enough to send him tumbling out of its mouth.

He caught himself in the air with blood covering his face and shoulders. Most of it belonged to the dragon. Damon wiped a hand across his eyes and stared at the wound beneath its jaw, where shattered scales hung from strips of exposed flesh.

Then he looked at his fist. He had spent the first part of this fight wrestling over mana with a creature that could casually turn his own vortex into a cage. Now he had punched a hole through its fucking head.

A delighted laugh escaped him. He was fucking overpowered! The difference between mana and the godly origin energy was insanely ridiculous!

Damon flexed his fingers, already drawing another strand toward his knuckles. He had barely understood what he was doing, yet the attack had punched straight through the defenses of the giant dragon.

What would happen once he actually learned to use this stuff properly?

The dragon apparently had no intention of helping him find out.

Its enormous body twisted away from him, and the golden lines across its scales flashed all at once. Damon immediately braced himself for another attack, only to watch the creature drive its claws into the space ahead of it. A dark opening spread between its talons, widening as it pulled.

Damon stared. “Wait. Are you fucking leaving?”

The dragon shoved its head into the opening.

He shot forward, but the creature was already dragging the rest of its body through. For something so enormous, it moved with infuriating speed. Thousands of kilometers of purple scales disappeared into the spatial tear while Damon was still trying to reach it.

He could probably use the origin energy to make himself faster. He just did not know how to do it. Then he felt the bloodline connection stretch.

Damon’s expression changed. The same crimson thread that had brought him to this world remained firmly attached to the fleeing dragon, reaching through the opening along with it. Damon seized it with his consciousness, and a grin returned to his face.

“You really picked the wrong bastard to run from.”

With a grin, he activated his teleportation skill.

Crimson light swallowed his surroundings before he emerged above the dragon’s neck. The world beneath them was gone, replaced by a stretch of darkness filled with distant stars. Damon barely glanced around before planting his feet between two enormous scales and driving his glowing fist downward.

The scale caved in beneath him. His Origin Energy tore through it and into the flesh below, opening a wound large enough for him to plunge inside. He punched it again and again and again until the beast

He punched it again and again and again until the beast could no longer keep its head upright. Each strike drove another burst of Origin Energy into its neck, shattering bone and tearing through the flesh beneath him. The golden lines surrounding the wound flickered desperately, but whatever power they gathered broke apart the moment it touched his fists.

The dragon twisted, trying to throw him off. Damon sank one hand into the exposed flesh and held on while continuing to punch with the other. An enormous claw swept toward him, but by then he had already forced himself deeper into the wound, leaving the beast to rake its own broken scales.

The next punch finally did it in.

Damon felt the enormous body jerk as his fist plunged into the ruined spine. A violent surge of mana erupted around him, powerful enough to strip the flesh from his forearm, but he forced another strand of Origin Energy through his hand before the dragon could dislodge him.

The struggle beneath him abruptly became a series of uncontrolled spasms. He didn’t stop until those faded too.

By the time Damon pulled himself out, the dragon’s head hung from a mangled stretch of neck, and its immense body drifted motionlessly through the darkness.

He hovered above it for several seconds, breathing hard as his divine senses swept through the flesh. The golden lines had gone dark, although a staggering amount of energy remained trapped inside the corpse.

Damon had killed it. He had killed an actual dragon without even sweating. A grin slowly spread across his blood-covered face as he looked over the enormous corpse.
