"Did it work? Did it work?" Damon gasped heavily. A sense of change washed over him this time, making him confident the technique had succeeded. Yet Necrogod merely gave a faint smile and a subtle nod.
"What happened? What's wrong? Shouldn't you be stronger now?"
"I got stronger, yeah. +1 vitality." Necrogod chuckled now.
Damon scratched his head in irritation. "It's okay. It worked, right? I'll just repeat it lots of times. Don't worry—you'll escape this place somehow."
Necrogod shook his head. "Time's up for you, Blood God." He gestured toward the storm rapidly gaining speed far off.
Damon refused to quit. He kept collecting the next round of blood essence. Right as the memory storm loomed before them, he drew another spear and stabbed ahead.
Sadly, it yielded only another +1 vitality. "No big deal. Everyone dies eventually. Don't stress over it. Save my body if you can, okay? Maybe if you ascend to godhood one day, you could revive me?"
"Fuck. Fuck." Damon swore. He snatched up Necrogod and dashed to a new spot. But even this bought just a few extra minutes, enough to pass on two more stats—strength and agility this round.
Amid the rush and chaos, he couldn't achieve more. Worse still, three additional storms began pursuing them. Damon knew full well: the further they fled, the grimmer it got. He was ready to scoop up Necrogod and flee again when Necrogod shook his head.
"This is exactly how I met the golden storm. Don't try it. We won't make it. Haven't you got twenty wives waiting? Why throw your life away here with me?"
Damon clenched his teeth and pressed on regardless. "I'll face that hit eventually. Might as well be now. It's got nothing to do with you." He'd already attempted storing Necrogod in his soul space, but the system blocked the trick. Whether it was this world's rule or the system's, he couldn't tuck Necrogod into his soulspace and abandon him there.
His soulspace worked fine for himself, but shoving another participant inside was off-limits.
His soulspace worked fine for himself, but shoving another participant inside was off-limits.
The sole alternative was turning Necrogod into his follower. That would grant an instant stat surge. But would it suffice to protect him in a memory storm?
No time remained for deliberation. Now five storms barreled toward them, leaving mere instants to react.
Damon hoisted the barely alive man and charged directly into one storm before the five could merge. Simultaneously, a fresh blood spear formed before him, and he drove it home without pause.
Necrogod, who'd been laughing wildly moments ago, went still. The pained, resigned look on his face shifted as he quietly embraced the choice laid out.
Instantly, the scene blurred, and their surroundings transformed. "Good luck." Damon's voice rang out as Necrogod hurtled into a fresh world.
A massive roar erupted, crowds cheering everywhere. But not for him. Necroged lay chained on the ground, facing a colossal beast looming above.
It appeared he'd landed in some colosseum, set to battle the gigantic horror. Demon or not, Necrogod ignored it. First, he pulled up his system panel to inspect his stats.

His eyes bulged in disbelief. Unbelievable—it showed right there on his character sheet: 50 stats across every attribute, impossible gains. He glanced up; his race had altered too. But the real jaw-dropper was his new status.
He was a follower now!
Follower to some insane monster!
A primordial???
That dude was a primordial the whole time???
Necrogod's twisted, stunned expression cracked into a wide grin. It all clicked now. He grasped why that guy always beat him, stayed one step ahead.
Not due to his own lack of talent. No, that jerk wielded a broken cheat power!
He burst out laughing at the absurdity! Then at his plight! How had it reached this point?
Necrogod rose slowly. His body felt transformed. Could he still wield necromancy? Another laugh escaped. No need to check—his legendary staff had already spurned him. Useless.
Maybe his skills too…
The earth ahead bubbled, birthing an undead.
"Well, that's something, I suppose." Necrogod licked his lips. At least his skills endured, so hope lingered. That Blood God bastard pulled it off. The jerk yanked him back from the brink. He might yet rebound and return stronger.
But before the thought completed… the behemoth lunged.
Yeah, rebound and return… provided he lived through this…
Necrogod's frame shuddered involuntarily. The creature's velocity gripped his heart. Boom! One strike, and it pulverized the undead effortlessly.
The beast then punched out abruptly, hurling Necrogod off his feet via the shockwave alone. Blood trickled from his mouth's edge. The whole colosseum roared and jeered at his suffering.
