The protagonist hesitated to follow Max's plan to destroy a piece of the stone shard containing immortal energy, fearing repercussions from the immortal. Despite the risks, Max set up a pseudo cage of divine energy to suppress the immortal energy. The protagonist then used divine energy to crush the stone shard, causing it to disintegrate and release concentrated immortal energy. This released energy was immediately suppressed by the divine energy barrier, preventing it from scattering.

Once all of the immortal energy had been released from that piece of the stone shard, I released the divine energy that had been around my hand.

There wasn’t a single piece of the stone shard itself that was left behind, there was only the immortal energy that was there.

I was honestly surprised by just how much immortal energy was contained within that piece of the stone shard. It was enough that it actually filled up the entire cage that we had set up.

It certainly was a space that was much bigger than what the piece of the stone shard took up.

So it seemed like the immortal energy that had been in that piece of the stone shard had been quite concentrated inside of it all along. This wasn’t a normal kind of compression, it was the kind of compression that only high grade energy had.

The one thing that was interesting was that there was this kind of zone that had been formed between the immortal energy and the cage of divine energy around it. It was almost as if the immortal energy was too afraid to approach the divine energy.

This wasn’t the kind of fear that was taught, this was the kind of fear that was naturally ingrained.

It was almost as if it was in the instinct of the immortal energy to fear this divine energy.

Though it wasn’t as if the immortal energy had conscious thought in the first place.

Seeing the immortal energy act this way, I could think of the reason right away.

It was the same reason why the sword had cut through the stone shard and how I had crushed the piece of the stone shard earlier.

"So there really is an order between them."

But thinking of this, I couldn’t help wondering, "If that’s the case, does that mean that the immortals of the upper realm would be afraid of fighting the gods?"

I didn’t dwell on this that much as I tried to figure out what it was about these two forms of energy that were different. There had to be something that was causing them to be different like this.

While I was thinking about this, I looked at Max who was standing outside of the divine energy cage.

He had set up all this equipment to monitor the situation inside of the cage, so naturally I wanted to see if he was able to find anything. He was the one that had wanted to do this in the first place.

But all I saw was the frustrated look on his face once more.

I couldn’t help shaking my head with a wry smile once more, but I didn’t blame him for this. There was even a part of me that did want him to fail this time even though it wasn’t as if it would help us.

"He’s too used to success that it might be good for him to fail sometimes."

It wasn’t that I wanted to harm Max, it was just that it would be better if his personality changed a bit...

Or at least in my opinion.

Instead of focusing on him, I turned my attention back to the two forms of energy.

It didn’t seem like I was going to figure anything out until a thought suddenly popped into mind.

"Cultivation is a path where the cultivators can only rely on themselves to become stronger. Meanwhile, the path of divinity comes from gathering the faith of one’s followers..."

It seemed like there was indeed a difference between the two forms of energy.

The immortal energy was an upgraded version of spiritual energy, but it was still only the power of a single person.

Divine energy was the power of countless people’s faith gathered together.

So when comparing the power of one with the power of countless people...

"Even if it’s only a small amount of faith that comes from each person, there are still countless people’s faith that are being brought together. It’s no wonder the divine energy is on a higher level than the immortal energy."

There was a sense of relief that filled me as I figured this out, but that didn’t last.

After all, there was something else that came to mind after figuring this out.

"Usually in cultivation novels, wouldn’t there be a higher realm than just the simple upper realm? There would be something like the divine realm or something like that where there would be god kings or immortal emperors..."

The more that I thought about it, the more likely it seemed.

Perhaps the upper realm wasn’t the end and once they reached an even higher realm, they would be able to outperform even gods. They would reach a level where they could create a universe and gods with a single thought...

The real concern might be if these even higher realms had a connection to the upper realm.

"I really hope that I’m not starting some kind of war that might destroy our world."

It was a melancholic feeling that filled me after I thought of this, but it wasn’t as if this was something that I could share with anyone. This was the kind of thing that I could only keep inside of myself since there was no one else that would have understood even if I told them.

Shaking my head, I looked at Max again to say, "Is there really nothing at all? You’re the one that suggested that we do this."

He didn’t seem to care about what I said, it didn’t even seem like he heard me with the way that he ignored me.

But when I started heading towards the divine energy cage, he suddenly said, "Wait, I’m still testing something."

There was a wry smile that crept onto my face when I saw this.

It wasn’t as if I would have caused anything to happen since I would have been able to pass through the divine energy cage without touching the immortal energy.

But he was still treating me like this...
