It didn’t seem like the maid puppet named Chun was about to answer me at first as she slowly looked up at me.

The way that she looked at me was almost as if she was trying to figure out something about me. It was almost like she was judging me with the way that she looked at me.

After a while, she finally stood up and turned to head off in a different direction.

The way that she moved was as if she was completely ignoring me, so I couldn’t help calling out to her. However, it seemed like this didn’t have an effect either as she continued moving away from me.

Only she didn’t go that far.

She went to the side of the room and picked up something that looked like some kind of board. But when she brought it over, she opened it up to reveal that it was actually an item with a mechanism that allowed it to turn into a table with chairs.

After the table was set, Chun gestured for me to sit down.

I looked at her with a confused look, but it didn’t seem like she minded this as she started preparing something.

It didn’t take long for me to see that it was actually tea and snacks that she was preparing. It was just that I had no idea how long these things had been here for, so I had no idea if they were even good to eat.

Only after she was done with all of this did Chun say, "It’s a long story, so I hope you don’t mind that I prepared some tea and snacks. These were my master’s favourites when he was still here."

I didn’t touch the tea or snacks since I had no idea if they were still edible, but I did focus on what Chun said, "So you’re saying that your master is no longer here? Does that mean that he’s left this place or that he’s passed on?"

Chun gave a sigh before starting her story.

But as I listened to her story, there was a wry smile that appeared on my face and my lips couldn’t help twitching a few times.

There were many times that I really wanted to tell her to summarize it and make the story shorter, but I just listened to her story in the end.

The story was actually quite simple even though Chun seemed to keep adding more and more information.

It was a story of the man that once lived in this place, creating all kinds of puppets to serve him. He was a man that didn’t care about what happened outside of this place and only focused on creating puppets.

"The way that he hid himself away was almost as if he was running away from something."

It was an astute observation from Chun, but I didn’t say anything about it.

After all, the only thing that I knew about this place was the information that came from the game. I didn’t really know much about the former owner of the manor or whatever they had gone through before building this manor.

This was information that wasn’t in the game.

"But now that it’s real life, everything does have a past, doesn’t it?" A part of me couldn’t help feeling a bit emotional because of this.

After listening to Chun’s story about the former owner of this manor for a while, she finally reached the main part of the story.

"The master just left one day. None of us have any idea where he went, it was almost as if he disappeared into thin air."

Just based on the information on the surface, it didn’t seem like there was much to this statement. But if one looked at it closely, they would notice that there was something off about what Chun said.

"So you’re saying that they just disappeared without a trace? Did you see it happen or did they just suddenly disappear?"

Even though Chun was a puppet, it seemed like it had been caught off guard by this question.

It was a good thing that Chun was a puppet and wasn’t as expressive as a real person, or else she certainly would have beaten me up for asking something as insensitive as this.

After looking like she thought about it for a bit, Chun finally said, "He just disappeared into thin air while he was in his room. None of us were serving the master at the time when he disappeared."

Putting aside the part about ’serving’, this did at least confirm one thing.

When one ascended, they would leave the mortal world to go to an upper realm.

In my past life, this was usually done by suddenly disappearing from the place that they had been in previously.

This made it even more likely that the owner of this manor had ascended to the upper realm after breaking through to become an immortal.

At the same time, it also explained why there was that stone shard that had the immortal energy inside of it.

Thinking of this, I couldn’t help taking out that stone shard and holding it in front of me for Chun to see. Then after a pause, I asked, "Is there anything else similar to this here?"

Chun looked surprised by this question once more, but then she looked like she had to think about this.

She even narrowed her eyes to look at the stone shard as if she wanted to see if there was anything specific about it.

Only after a while did she shake her head and say, "I’ve never seen anything like this before."

At her words, I couldn’t help knitting my brows.

After all, she didn’t say that she didn’t know if there were any other of these stone shards in the manner. She was saying that she had never seen this stone shard before.

If that was the case...

"Where did this one come from?"
