The protagonist found a pattern in War's corruption energy attacks. By taking control of Lupus's body, the protagonist could predict and dodge every attack. This allowed them to conserve divine energy and begin to exploit War's defenses, even managing to crack its armor.

"That is quite enough."

When the swords plunged into War's back, a switch seemed to flip. It was as if War, realizing its current approach was futile, decided to try a different tactic.

This wasn't entirely unexpected, considering that the weapons emerging from the ground were likely among War's lesser abilities.

To transform to this extent, only to manifest mere weapons... well, that would have been anticlimactic.

However, the prospect of War unveiling a new power boded ill for me.

I wished to prevent War from initiating such a transformation, but I soon discovered it wouldn't be a simple task.

The instant War ceased manifesting weapons, a surge, or rather a significant draw, of the surrounding corruption energy occurred around it.

This corruption energy was being consumed by War.

It became evident that War was consolidating the ambient corruption energy, likely because its previous attempts had failed. This indicated a shift towards employing a secondary form of power.

This new method promised to be far more perilous...

Yet, it appeared War wasn't solely absorbing energy on its own.

War was apparently drawing power from the surrounding corruption energy monsters as well; they suddenly began to disintegrate. As their forms broke down, the corruption energy composing their bodies flowed directly towards War.

War was effectively siphoning the strength of the corruption energy monsters for its own use.

This also confirmed my inability to win in a battle of attrition.

Still, given that War had never employed this strategy before...

"It was already so mighty, and now it's drawing power from the nearby corruption energy monsters..."

I couldn't even begin to fathom the extent of War's power once it completed this absorption.

But truly, there was no discernible way to halt War's actions. Even if I had desired to intervene, I knew I wouldn't be able to breach the dense barrier of corruption energy now coalescing around War.

At this stage, it had transformed into a swirling vortex of corruption energy, making any direct action incredibly difficult.

To penetrate such a mass would demand immense concentration from my end.

And War certainly wouldn't grant me the opportunity.

As the corruption energy converged around War, it also seemed to undergo a gradual metamorphosis. The shifting energy appeared to be taking on a distinct new form.

When the transformation concluded, the resulting form of the corruption energy was hardly a surprise.

Given that it was corruption energy gathered by War, it was only logical that it would assume this particular shape. In mere moments, it was as though an entire army had been marshaled by War.

Their demeanor suggested individual will and intent. They gathered as if they were a genuine army composed of actual soldiers.

The peculiar aspect was their gaze directed at War after their assembly.

Despite being, in essence, soldiers of corruption energy marshaled by War, they didn't seem particularly eager to accept it as their commander. Their looks conveyed a sense of resentment toward War for summoning them.

It wasn't a matter of personal familiarity and then resentment for being called upon unexpectedly.

It seemed more like they were being coerced into following War, judging by their interactions.

War, however, appeared entirely unperturbed by its soldiers' expressions.

In fact, it almost seemed to relish this apparent disdain.

Having finished summoning these soldiers, War turned its gaze to me and declared, "Now it is your turn to join them."

Hearing War put it that way, it became easier to understand the resentment in the soldiers' eyes.

They were indeed compelled to serve under War.

It appeared that those War had vanquished previously were ensnared within the corruption energy. Upon summoning them, War seemingly extracted their souls, forcing them into servitude as War's soldiers.

For these individuals trapped in such a state, the torment must have been immense.

Yet, there was absolutely nothing they could do about their predicament.

Had they possessed the means to break free from War's control, they would have done so long ago.

Following this declaration, War raised its lance and shield, then commanded, "Charge."

Once the order was issued, it was as if an unseen force seized control of the corruption energy soldiers surrounding War. Their previous expressiveness vanished, replaced by an overwhelming suppression.

It was entirely understandable that such constraints would be imposed, as they were now serving as War's instruments.

"I will attempt to liberate you if it is within my power." That was the entirety of what I could utter to the soldiers infused with corruption energy.

It was simply that they decidedly did not make the task simple for me...

Once they had succumbed to War's dominion, every one of them lunged forward with him.

A colossal concentration of corruption energy was before me, against which I was powerless.

Even if I desired to discern the currents within this immense body, there was genuinely nothing I could do against the sheer might it possessed.

It felt as though this mass of corruption energy employed its sheer bulk to utterly shatter any semblance of energy flow.
