Shota's Isekai NTR Adventure Chapter 1973: She’s just lazy (3)

Upon sensing the threat, my immediate instinct was to lift my arm and condense divine energy. I prepared to unleash an attack that would cleanse the approaching wave of corruption energy.
However, before that dark mass could reach me, a protective shield manifested around my body. This barrier, composed of pure divine energy, acted as a wall that held the corruption energy at bay.
The barrier appeared formidable and, by all logic, should have been capable of eradicating the corruption energy entirely. Yet, it failed to purify the filth, merely managing to irritate it like a stinging sensation.
Despite being divine energy of a supposedly superior grade, its interaction with the corruption energy suggested otherwise.
“As you can observe, this is the precise reason I am unable to handle this destruction energy,” Insectum remarked suddenly from my side.
I remained silent, focusing my attention entirely on the divine energy before me.
After a brief moment of scrutiny, the nature of the problem became clear.
Although the barrier consisted of pure divine energy, I noticed that its specific attribute differed from any divine energy I had encountered previously.
Through my past dialogues with the gods, I had gradually begun to grasp the significance of divine energy attributes.
I understood that for an entity to achieve godhood, they required a specific domain to govern.
The nature of this domain dictated the specific attribute their divine energy would manifest.
While I hadn't been certain what attribute a God of Insects would possess, the answer was now obvious.
It was propagation.
The existence of this massive divine energy barrier was due to the sheer volume of energy present. Because of the inherent nature of Insectum’s power, divine energy was generated in staggering quantities.
However, high quantity did not necessarily equate to high potency.
When Insectum’s divine energy propagated, it simply multiplied itself at the same power level. It did not grow more intense or concentrated as it spread.
Essentially, it was expanding in volume while the quality remained stagnant.
Consequently, the divine energy barrier lacked any true offensive bite.
Its defensive capabilities were undeniable, given the nearly limitless supply of energy it could tap into. So long as Insectum’s essence remained, the divine energy would never stop multiplying.
Insectum’s assessment had been accurate.
Its power was ill-suited for destroying this corruption energy, though it was perfectly designed for containment.
Insectum had been watching quietly while I analyzed the interaction between the barrier and the corruption, but then it spoke up again: “As you can see, my specialty lies in defense rather than offense. Even with the will to do so, there is very little I can accomplish against this destruction energy.”
Lin Fan cast a peculiar glance at the spider.
Insectum fell into a brief silence before letting out a sudden sigh. “Had you not appeared, I would have been helpless and eventually lost control over this destruction energy.”
“Why didn't you seek assistance from the other gods? I am certain someone would have been happy to help. After all, it wasn't as if you were the one who originally built this habitat for your messenger.”
“No one will act right now because of the proph—” Insectum began to explain, but abruptly cut itself off as if realizing it had nearly revealed a secret.
I narrowed my eyes at the deity, though I suspected it wouldn't breathe another word on the matter.
A single slip-up was all it took for it to raise its guard once more.
The spider looked away, seemingly unable to meet my gaze, just as I expected.
Since no more information was forthcoming...
I turned back toward the pit and raised my hand.
As I did so, brilliant flames began to coalesce in the air above the chasm.
I had initially worried the divine energy barrier might block my flames, but they passed through effortlessly since they shared the same origin. Because both were forms of divine energy, Insectum’s barrier allowed them to penetrate without the slightest friction.
Once the flames had reached sufficient intensity, I gestured downward, letting them plummet.
The corruption energy hadn't dared to strike the divine flames out of sheer terror. But as the fire rained down, the corruption was forced to fight for its survival.
The wave of corruption energy that erupted from the depths of the pit was far more massive than I had anticipated.
It appeared that a colossal amount of filth had accumulated here over countless years.
I realized I had vastly underestimated the true strength of Insectum’s defensive containment.
The fire continued to blaze for some time until the upward surge of corruption energy finally ceased.
“Is that the end of it?” I questioned Insectum, who was observing from my side.
The spider nodded before replying, “You truly are the one they chose…”
This was yet another piece of the puzzle, but I chose to remain expressionless this time, hoping to bait out more details.
However, one thing had become certain through this ordeal.
Insectum had labeled Queenie as lazy… but based on what I had seen, the god was just as indolent as she was.
There were numerous ways Insectum could have handled this situation, yet it had simply settled for the easiest solution I proposed. It was clear that Insectum hadn't bothered to think of anything beyond asking other gods for a favor.
It seemed the nature of the god really did shape the personality of the messenger they employed…
No, that couldn't be entirely true, as Zeldir was nothing like the deity he served.
That god was a total fanatic, while Zeldir was his polar opposite—unless there was a side to him I had yet to see. Or perhaps Zeldir was simply a master at masking his true character.
I certainly hoped that wasn't the case…
Pushing those thoughts aside, I asked, “Is there anything else you require of me?”
Insectum seemed to snap out of its trance, shaking its head. “No, that was the singular issue I needed your help with. Now that it is resolved, let us go and retrieve that relic for you.”
This god and messenger truly were two of a kind…
