She Used Me for a Dare… Now I Own Her Mother Chapter 589: Above the City

The moment the car rolled to a stop, Victoria didn’t even wait for him to open her door.
She pushed it open and stepped out onto the gravel lot, her face alight with pure, radiant excitement.
Turning in a slow half-circle, she looked around in genuine, breathless joy. Twin stone archways glowing under the warm amber light of wrought-iron lanterns framed the entrance to the overlook, with wide stone pavilions rising along the hillside against the dark canopy of pines.
Every trace of the day’s fatigue had completely vanished; her eyes shone with unrestrained delight, her smile wide and unguarded as she took in the panoramic beauty of the mountain terrace.
Alex stepped around the hood of the car, watching her glowing expression with a quiet, fond smile before closing the distance between them and sliding his hand firmly into hers.
They weren’t alone. As they passed beneath the stone archway, Victoria quickly realized what the mountain truly was: a haven for lovers.
The grand stone staircase carved into the hillside rose in wide, sweeping landings, and along every tier, couples were scattered beneath the dim glow of the wrought-iron lanterns.
On the first landing, a young man had his coat open, wrapping his girlfriend inside it against the cool night breeze while their mouths moved together in a slow, lingering kiss.
Further up, tucked against the curved parapet, another couple was leaning against the stone, completely tangled in each other’s arms, whispering and sharing soft, hungry kisses without paying the slightest mind to the world around them.
Every bench, every shadow, and every stone alcove was occupied by two people seeking warmth in the dark.
A sudden, fierce rush of heat bloomed across Victoria’s cheeks. A bright pink flush stained her neck and cheekbones, contrasting against the cold air.
For a woman who had spent thirty years policing her every breath, gesture, and expression to project untouchable corporate supremacy, being surrounded by such raw, shameless intimacy was almost overwhelming.
Alex felt her fingers tighten in his grasp. He looked down at her glowing, embarrassed profile, a quiet, wicked chuckle rumbling in his chest.
"A little scandalized, Madame Blackwood?" he murmured close to her ear.
"They’re completely shameless," she whispered back, though her eyes were dancing and the blush only deepened as she looked down at the stone steps to hide her smile. "Not a shred of decorum."
"Decorum stays down on the boulevard," Alex said, squeezing her hand and pulling her upward. "Keep walking. The best view isn’t down here."
They climbed past the second and third landings, leaving the murmured voices and soft laughter behind.
The higher they went, the steeper the stone stairs became and the harder the wind howled through the granite crags, scaring off anyone not willing to brave the bitter mountain chill.
Finally, they reached the uppermost observation promontory... a secluded, half-moon stone platform jutting out directly over the sheer drop of the mountain face.
Up here, they were completely alone.
The wind swept across the open ridge with incredible, biting force, clean and electric, smelling of frost and ancient rock. It whipped through Victoria’s hair, sending dark silk strands fluttering across her temples, but the cold instantly evaporated from her mind the moment she stepped up to the waist-high stone railing.
Spread out beneath them was the entire city.
Millions of lights stretched across the basin like an ocean of fallen stars... amber boulevards cutting through the dark like glowing veins, the crimson taillights of distant bridges tracing slow, fluid lines, and the glittering glass spires of the financial district looking small and fragile in the vast blackness.
The enormous empire she ruled by day, the corporations, the endless contracts, the immense weight of the Blackwood legacy... from up here, it was all reduced to a quiet, harmless carpet of twinkling embers.
Victoria stood frozen, her parted lips catching the icy wind, utterly captivated.
Behind her, Alex sat down on a wide, sturdy timber bench anchored into the stone right against the curved parapet. He leaned back against the mountain, his long legs spread, and looked up at her silhouette outlined against the glowing city below.
"Come here," he said softly.
Victoria turned around, her eyes catching the ambient gold of the distant skyline. Without a second’s hesitation, leaving behind every shred of calculated reserve, she stepped toward him.
Alex reached out, his strong hands catching her by the waist and lifting her effortlessly. With a gentle, deliberate tug, he pulled her directly onto his lap, straddling his thighs so she was facing him chest-to-chest.
The heat between them was instantaneous. The sheer, solid warmth of his body fought off the freezing gale, grounding her against the elements. Victoria rested her knees on either side of his hips, her hands coming up naturally to settle flat against his chest, feeling the steady, heavy thud of his heart through his coat.
The biting wind whipped around them, howling against the mountain crags, but Victoria didn’t shrink away from it.
Instead, with slow, deliberate grace, she let go of the thick lapels of her coat. She shrugged her shoulders, allowing the heavy knit outer layer to slip down her arms and fall behind her, stripping away the final shield she had hidden behind all day.
She shook her dark hair loose, letting the cold mountain breeze cascade through it, lifting her chin to the night sky.
When she looked back down at Alex, her dark eyes were shining... shimmering with an emotion so bright, so overwhelming, it verged on tears of pure, unadulterated relief.
Her fingers rose to cup his jaw, the warmth of her palm contrasting with his cold-bitten skin. Her thumb stroked gently across his cheekbone, her gaze locking with his in the quiet darkness of the summit.
"All my life, I thought peace was something you had to buy with control," she whispered, her voice trembling slightly in the wind, but ringed with absolute certainty. "I thought today was just an escape."
She leaned closer, her breath warm against his lips.
"Alex... this is the best day of my life. The single best day."
Alex’s gaze darkened with a raw, fierce intensity that made her breath catch in her throat. His hands slid up from her hips, fingers digging firmly into the curve of her waist, anchoring her against him so tightly there wasn’t a whisper of air between them.
"Then let’s make sure you never forget it," he murmured.
He surged upward, crushing his mouth against hers.
Victoria let out a soft, surrendered gasp that was swallowed whole by his lips. Any lingering remnant of Madame Blackwood, of the untouchable corporate titan, shattered into dust.
Her hands slid from his cheeks into his thick hair, her fingers gripping tight as she pulled him closer, meeting his mouth with a desperate, unbridled hunger she had kept locked away for years.
The kiss was searing, hot and demanding against the freezing mountain air. It started with an explosion of pent-up desire, their lips moving together with a fierce rhythm that left them both breathless.
Alex groaned deep in his throat, his hands sliding up beneath the back of her shirt, his warm, calloused palms pressing flat against the bare, smooth skin of her lower back. The shock of his warm touch against the cold air sent a sharp, intoxicating shiver straight down her spine.
Victoria arched into him, clinging to his broad shoulders as the world spun away. The howling wind, the freezing night, the vast sea of city lights burning silently thousands of feet below... none of it existed anymore.
There was only the taste of him, the heat radiating between their pressed chests, and the fierce, uninhibited freedom of a woman who had finally found somewhere she didn’t have to carry the world alone.
