Shadows of the Deep Space Chapter 1720 - 544: Taking Action (2)
Previously on Shadows of the Deep Space...
The greatest threat stems from the Star Destroyer·Lost's inferior performance, compounded by its extreme age.
Still, options are scarce; the Lost was originally destined for the scrapyard by the Federation before being purchased and retrofitted. Its battle prowess naturally pales against true Star Destroyers.
In that instant, a beam brimming with devastating force sliced through the void, slamming right into the heart of Lost Star’s energy shield.
Boom!
A brilliant blue sun blazed into existence.
Lost Star's energy shield shuddered fiercely.
Moments later, a swarm of missiles hurtled toward Lost Star.
Right then, the Tower of Lost's power surged once more, unleashing a torrent of chain lightning.
Rumble!
Missiles detonated in sequence; just a handful struck the energy shield.
Suddenly, the Star Destroyer·Lost's scanner blared a shrill alert.
"Warning: Star Destroyer·Thunder Extreme detected!"
...
The optical display instantly projected Thunder Extreme's image.
"It’s a Federation Star Destroyer!"
"Why would a Federation ship be here?"
...
Mi Wei and his crew voiced their astonishment while staring at the abruptly appearing Star Destroyer·Thunder Extreme.
Just as bewilderment gripped everyone.
A communication request from Thunder Extreme flashed up suddenly.
"My lord, should we accept it?"
The operator inquired nervously.
"Accept it!"
Mi Wei's face flickered briefly before he barked the order.
Timi’s holographic form materialized before Mi Wei.
"Hello, I am Vice Admiral Timi of the Federation Government!"
Timi presented himself to Mi Wei.
"I am Legion Commander Mi Wei of the Lost Path Army."
Mi Wei replied with evident strain.
He couldn't fathom the Federation's intentions. Should they turn hostile too, the situation would turn catastrophic.
Timi quickly picked up on Mi Wei’s unease and hastened to reassure him.
"Commander Mi Wei, rest easy—we've come to aid you!"
"Fantastic, the Federation delivers as promised!"
Mi Wei exclaimed with fervor.
"Commander Mi Wei, time's short. Let's shatter Lost Star's defenses without delay."
Timi urged Mi Wei.
"Got it, brothers—the Federation's here to back us up, no need for fear. Let's assault Mist Star as one!"
Mi Wei switched to the open channel and rallied his forces.
"Yes! Advance!"
...
The news ignited the Land of Lost soldiers, who piloted their mechas with zeal toward the Land of Lost.
Now, both Thunder Extreme and Lost pressed ahead, main guns powering up swiftly, missile bays unfolding in ranks, and interceptor turrets whirring into position.
Swish swish!
Missiles and beams lanced endlessly at Lost Star.
Rumble!
Lost Star's energy shield wavered persistently yet held steadfast.
Meanwhile, the Tower of Lost charged rapidly before firing off massive chain lightning.
Bang!
Dozens of mechas shattered on impact; even Thunder Extreme took a hit, its shield rippling wildly.
Within the central command center.
The operator announced.
"The energy shield’s integrity is dropping steadily!"
"Enemy fire’s too intense—ships can’t approach!"
...
Timi furrowed his brow at the reports and opened the comms to address Mi Wei.
"Commander Mi Wei, why hasn’t that Tower of Mist fallen yet?"
"Damn, my oversight—hold on!"
Mi Wei shot back to Timi.
Mi Wei punched in orders at once, linking up with Mist City’s Garrison Captain Jilei.
The connection formed swiftly.
Without letting Jilei utter a word, Mi Wei roared at him.
"Jilei, drop whatever you're doing—seize the Tower of Mist's central control room and disable the defenses and energy shield now!"
"Understood, heading there fast!"
Jilei snapped back irritably, severing the link before accelerating his team toward the Tower of Mist's central control room.
The Tower of Mist's central control room sat at the structure's base.
This zone fell under Vice City Lord Medot’s grip, ringed by mechas on guard.
As Jilei’s squad arrived, entrance mechas unleashed a brutal barrage.
Swish swish!
Beams rained down.
"Push forward!"
Jilei drove his Fake V Generation Mecha·Shadow Prison at the forefront; incoming beams splintered against his GN Position Barrier.
He darted the mecha nimbly, swinging a plasma light blade to bisect enemy mechas.
In the Tower of Mist's central control room.
Subordinates pleaded urgently with Lu Ang.
"My lord, what now? The Federation Star Destroyer’s pounding us relentlessly."
"Curses, what a disaster! Why in blazes is the Federation sticking their nose in now? Stand firm—with the Tower of Mist standing strong, they won’t breach us."
Lu Ang stands speechless, struck by sheer misfortune.
Just then, an urgent voice blares across the comms channel.
"Lord Lu Ang, Captain Jilei advances with his troops, while perimeter defenses falter under pressure."
Lu Ang darts a glance at the outer surveillance feed, witnessing Captain Jilei surging toward the entrance. His face hardens further, and he snaps orders to his men without delay.
"Everyone fall back inside the Tower of Mist, seal the gates! Let’s see them try to enter—once City Lord Medot deals with Otaine, triumph is ours!"
"Yes!"
His subordinates bark back in unison.
At once, Lu Ang’s forces withdraw into the Tower of Mist’s depths, dropping the gates in sync.
As Jilei and his squad hit the entrance, the gates stand fully closed.
"Damn it, blow it wide open!"
