Second World Chapter 4 - 4. Second Class
Previously on Second World...
The only remaining choices were the Ranger and the Magician. One focused on speed, while the other relied on intelligence. Although he had experience with both, he wasn't as practiced with them as he was with strength-based melee roles. After a moment of deliberation, he reached for the cloth and the short staff. The speed-based path was still a melee class, and while the Second World introduction mentioned it could eventually transition into a ranged class, it remained a physical archetype. Opting for the Magician—a magical class—would likely provide him with greater versatility.
"You have chosen the magician class. You have a total of 2 free attribute and 2 free skill points, you can open your status window to allocate this point at any time."
Right, he still had those unassigned points. He had been so preoccupied with survival and understanding his situation that checking his status windows hadn't been a priority. He suddenly felt more at ease, his entire body feeling strangely light. He wondered if picking a second class had caused this sensation.
It was time to investigate.
"Status," he commanded, summoning the interface with his mind.
The blue hologram flickered back into existence, revealing his current statistics.
Storm Wind Class: Fighter / Magician Level 1 / Level 1
Attributes: - HP = 185/230 - Stamina = 110/110 - MP = 110/110 - Strength = 23 - Dexterity = 21 - Intelligence = 23 - Endurance = 23 - Reflex = 22 - Wisdom = 23 - Luck = 2 - Free attribute point = 2 - Free skill point = 1/1 Experience = 4/100 (fighter), 0/100 (magician). Setting 50:50
"Holy—" The numbers left him stunned. His stats had virtually doubled. According to the Beta test guides, all basic classes started with 10 attribute points across the board, gaining small bonuses per level based on the specific class.
As a Fighter, for instance, his Strength began at 10 and grew by 2 per level. Upon acquiring the Magician class, he gained only 1 Strength per level, but it appeared he didn't just get that single point; he also received the base 10 points for starting a new class. This resulted in a massive total of 23 Strength. To reach that level of power as a pure Fighter, he would have needed to level up six or seven times. No wonder he felt so light—his speed and power had increased significantly!
Furthermore, he now possessed an MP stat, which had been missing previously. It was clearly a result of his new Magician class, serving as the standard energy needed for casting spells. While physical players utilized Stamina for their skills, Magical players relied on MP, or Mana Points.
He noticed a toggle next to the experience bars. It seemed he could adjust the distribution of experience between his two classes. If the experience was split, wouldn't his leveling pace be cut in half? After considering it, he decided it wasn't a major problem. Progress might be slower, but the increased stats would compensate for the delay. He adjusted the experience ratio to 75:25. Since Fighter was his primary class and the one he felt most comfortable with, he chose to prioritize its growth.
He proceeded to put one free point into Strength and the other into Dexterity. He had previously attempted to boost his Luck since it was so low, but the system blocked it. He recalled from the Beta guide that Luck was a unique stat determined at the start of a class. Beyond that, it could only be improved through specific items, equipment, or quests. Essentially, one needed good fortune just to increase their Luck. It was an ironic requirement.
Navigating to the next page, he reviewed his equipment slot status.
Right-hand weapon = Bronze short sword Left-hand weapon = Apprentice staff Head = none Chest = Leather armor Shoulder = none Arms = none Belt = none Pants = none Boots = none Cloak = none Necklace = none Ring 1 = none Ring 2 = none Special equipment = Administrator God-Eye
Bag: - Large Bag - Administrator key-card - Handphone - Tunic cloth Money: 0 copper, 0 silver, 0 gold
Most of his slots were empty, which was expected given he was just starting out. A new item, the Tunic cloth, had appeared in his inventory. It was part of the Magician's starting gear, but since he was already wearing Leather armor, the tunic had been stored automatically.
He flipped the page again to access his Battle Skills. The screen was split into Fighter and Magician sections, with each containing a single skill. Power Strike was listed for the Fighter, while Mana Bullet was listed for the Magician. Both were level 1, and each section had one free skill point available.
"It looks like skill points can only be spent on their own respective classes," he whispered.
He moved on to examine the skill details.
Power Strike, level 1/20 (Active skill, melee, require melee weapon) Deal 150% physical damage, cause pushing force proportional to Strength stat. Stamina consumed: 10 Cooldown: 3 seconds cooldown
Mana bullet, level 1/20 (Active skill, range, require magic weapon) Deal 200% magic damage Range: 10 meter Mana consumed: 10 Cooldown: 5 seconds
The number 20 next to the level indicated the maximum rank for the skills. He also noticed ten empty stars beneath each description. Recalling the Beta guide, he remembered that skills could be improved in two ways: by spending skill points or through repetitive use. Each time a skill was used, proficiency would grow until a star was filled. Every star earned would enhance the skill's overall power.
Suddenly, something at the bottom of the page caught his eye.
Inherent Skill: Immortal soul (Passive skill) Resurrect user at the nearest safe area when died, keep all inventories, collected experience to the next level is reduced by 50% Cooldown: 24 hours
A survival skill? That was incredible! His brief moment of joy quickly turned into somber realization. If a specific skill was required for resurrection, did that mean those without it faced permanent death? This wasn't like a standard game where coming back to life was a given. This made everything feel much more real. Even if the world operated on RPG logic, he had to treat every threat as a life-or-death situation. With a 24-hour cooldown, he could only afford to die once a day. He didn't plan on testing it, but it was a relief to have the insurance.
Having finished his status review, it was time to practice his skills. He needed to get comfortable with them, but first, he needed a target. Checking his radar, he spotted a red dot hovering at the edge. A monster had entered the area.
"All right, let's use you as target practice then," he said, drawing his short sword with his right hand while gripping the staff in his left. He examined the staff's stats.
Apprentice staff, level 1 (common magic weapon) Magical damage: 10 Range: 10 meter Attack speed: 1 Energy: 50
As he recalled from the Beta guide, the energy functioned like ammunition for the staff. Even without using spells, a Magician could perform basic ranged attacks. However, if that energy reached zero, he would be forced to rely solely on melee strikes or actual spells.
