Hai Di and Hai Lao fought alongside Krassazh and Ublaith, but their battle was interrupted by the appearance of a powerful multi-headed serpent. The serpent, controlled by Arrasixx, proved to be a Mid Deity Beast and attacked the Cryanids, causing massive destruction. Meanwhile, Amon arrived with reinforcements, including several powerful spirit beasts, and revealed his alliance with Krassazh. Amon ordered his forces to prioritize defeating Hai Di, with Yao Ai accompanying him, while the others were tasked with distracting the serpent.

Amon had a reason to interfere with the battle. If he didn’t, Krassazh would most likely order a retreat. If he did, then everything he had planned for years would be for naught. He couldn’t let that happen.

"Yao Ai, you go for Hai Di. I will support you. Don’t fail," Amon ordered.

"Tch!" Yao Ai disliked being commanded like this, but she had no choice. Furthermore, defeating Hai Di had always been her target, so she went along with it. She used a movement art that boosted her speed to the max.

Hai Di was distracted. He wasn’t aware of Yao Ai’s approach until she was near. Yao Ai landed a kick that sent him hurtling toward the ground.

"Father!" Hai Lao exclaimed. He used one hand to arm his bow and his teeth to pull its string. Scores of black arrows shot toward Yao Ai.

Yao Ai waved her arm, summoning wind blades that cut the black arrows.

Hai Lao was about to pull his bow string again, but he sensed someone coming at him.

"I will be your opponent," Amon said as he swung the Broken Justice.

Hai Lao used his bow to parry the slash, but failed to defend a follow-up attack that was a kick to his side. The kick sent him flying away.

"Don’t fail," Amon repeated to Yao Ai before chasing Hai Lao.

"Tch! No need to keep saying that!" Yao Ai yelled in annoyance. She dove toward Hai Di.

Krassazh was surprised by the turn of events. He had sent Ublaith to retrieve Arrasixx and retreat first. He himself was about to retreat. The unexpected reveal of a Mid Deity Beast had thrown their plan in jeopardy, but Amon’s intrusion made him rethink his option.

If he had brought the entire Hyanid warriors, he should have been able to drive away a Deity beast, even if he could not defeat it. This had been how they secured a territory inside the Misty Border. However, the true Hyanids he brought were only those who rode with him atop the Cryanid King. Invading so deep into human territory was too risky. He wasn’t willing to bring everyone. Aside from his core group, he only brought expendable minions for this war, which were the Cryanids and the altered Hyanids.

Even so, it would be a waste if he retreated now. The number of surviving Cryanids and altered Hyanids remained sizable, but the number they had lost was also considerable. If he retreated now, it would take a long time to rebuild this army.

When he was unsure, he heard Surressh call him.

"Supreme leader! Leave the human lord to Amon. We are to hold back the deity beast until they slay him."

Krassazh turned to Surressh, who was flying over. He said, "Hold back? Are you serious? We won’t last for long against an enemy like that."

"We will not be the main player to stop the beast. We will only provide support," Surressh said as he pointed a finger.

Krassazh looked where Surressh was pointing and saw that he wasn’t kidding.

Ling Dau was slapping and biting the Cryanids that dared to come close to him. He was not enthusiastic about this battle. He was annoyed, even. The pet he had dominated had dared to force him to show himself. If not for Hai Di being a rare catch, he would have left that man to fend for himself.

If he could, he would prefer to remain hidden. However, he might not get another chance to obtain the soul of someone with such a high cultivation level as Hai Di, who also possessed a cultivation law. He supposed he could take a little risk under the circumstances.

He looked at the pet. Some new players had joined the battle.

’Huh? Isn’t that the woman he had attacked using his blast breath several weeks ago?’ He thought. He had commanded Hai Di to pursue this woman to ensure she had died, so his existence remained a secret, but he guessed it was pointless now.

Still, that woman seemed hell-bent on killing Hai Di. He guessed he would have to teach her a lesson again. He was about to open one of his mouths to fire a blast breath when he sensed a familiar presence not far away. He turned and saw a bright beam rushing at him.

"What?" He channeled his energy, forming a shield made of light. The bright beam crashed into the shield. The shield remained sturdy until the beam waned.

He looked over at the one who had unleashed the beam. It was a serpentine dragon. The familiar aura he sensed earlier was from this creature.

"A noble dragon...?" He asked. "But, you have not yet matured. A young noble dragon is never left to fend for itself. Whose spawn are you? Why don’t I sense another noble dragon in the vicinity? Or... Are you the offspring of a fallen dragon? Is that why you are alone?"

"Are you a noble dragon as well?" Di Ying asked. "The aura I sense from you tells me so, but... You look hideous."

Ling Dau narrowed his eyes. Di Ying had touched a sensitive part. His grimace turned into an evil grin. "You talk like those elders who like to act high and mighty while you are but a mere foundling. You should learn to watch your manners, little dragon."

"I am not a foundling!" Di Ying exclaimed.

"Really? Then where is your parent? Why did it let you roam out here alone? Never mind, I will show you what happens to an insolent little dragon who doesn’t know her place."

"You must deal with us as well if you wish to bully Di Ying!" A large fox with nine tails slipped out from the swarm of Cryanids. The air exploded due to her movements. The explosion produced several wind blasts that shot toward Ling Dau.

"What is this? A multi-tailed fox dares to challenge a noble dragon like me?" Ling Dau uttered mockingly. He didn’t even attempt to defend against the wind blasts, which battered his body without effect.

"Don’t you underestimate me!" Lin Li exclaimed. Her eyes shone brightly.

As it did, Ling Dau saw something unexpected. An azure shadow of a gargantuan dragon towered over him. It looked down with eyes filled with contempt. A voice that made his soul tremble reverberated in his mind.

"Hideous wretch, how do you bear the bloodline of a noble dragon? Not only do you look nothing like our kind, but you have also committed the ultimate sin. You are a disgrace to our kind! Get out of my sight! Don’t you ever dare claim that you are one of us! The next time any of us sees you, we will show no mercy!"

Ling Dau felt like he had returned to the time when he was still a youngling. He felt vulnerable and powerless. His heart quivered. He felt an urgent desire to hide somewhere. The crippling feeling of worthlessness and shame bore down on him. This feeling touched his soul, which in turn transformed into a burning rage.

He gritted his teeth and roared to heaven.

"How dare you play mind tricks on me, little fox!! I will make you pay for this!"

His roar dispelled the illusion that plagued his mind. The azure shadow vanished. He could see his surroundings again. In the split second that he lost his concentration due to the hallucination, three new opponents managed to get close to him.

One was the Titan Battle Puppet. It flew at high speed using a jet propulsion on its back. Another was the hell beast battle puppet that contained Bo Wu’s soul. A third was the giant, altered beast.

All three slammed into Ling Dau. He felt the blow. This fueled his rage further. He uttered another roar. This time, his roar was filled with destructive energy. All three of his nearest opponents felt their bodies shake heavily, but unlike the Cryanid Hivemind, their frames endured the sound attack.

Ling Dau grunted. A booming shockwave radiated out of him, sending his three assailants flying away.

"Hahaha!" Bo Wu cackled. His metallic body turned into a shadow, and he rebounded back toward Ling Dau.

One of Ling Dau’s jaws tried to bite the hell beast’s shadow, but it was fast. Moving as if wind, the shadow swerved around Ling Dau’s long neck until it arrived at Ling Dau’s back. There, the shadow turned back into Bo Wu, who buried his metallic claws into the dragon’s back.

After gaining a battle puppet body, Bo Wu discovered that he could grow his power by devouring other spirit beasts. Throughout the years, Amon had helped him do that. A hell beast was a Lower Primordial Beast, but Bo Wu’s current power level was at the Higher Primordial Beast. As his power grew, he found that he could also use the hell beast’s abilities despite living inside a metallic body.

A hell beast had the ability called Shadow Walk. It could blend with the shadows or momentarily turn into a shadow, which boosted his speed and gave him near invulnerability to physical attacks while in that form.

"Huh?" Bo Wu looked down. Despite using his full strength, his claws couldn’t cut through Ling Dau’s scales. They were too tough.
