The Following Day…
"Have you heard the news about the man who took down the demonic dragon?"
"What was his name?"
"Samuel, I believe… Just a few weeks back, he was a scrawny nobody, but now his strength is terrifying."
"How did he change so much?"
"Who knows?"
"Hey, does anyone know if he’s taken? A girlfriend, a wife… maybe a concubine?"
"He doesn't have one, but I’d gladly step up if he’d let me."
"Which role?"
"Any of them... Have you caught a glimpse of his physique? He built that body in a matter of days. You should have watched his workout routine, oh my demon gods... If only I could convince him to put a child in me."
"Me too."
"Yeah, I feel the same."
"But why would someone like him even look at us?"
The rumors spread like a blazing fire. Samuel’s name was on everyone's lips—whispered in corners, spoken in halls, and shouted in the streets. He was the object of universal admiration, curiosity, and lust, though a few felt the sting of jealousy.

Maxwell's Lab…
The laboratory was thick with the stench of blood and pungent chemicals. Grotesque demon heads were preserved in jars along the shelves, their dull eyes staring into nothingness from within murky fluids. Maxwell stood at the center of the room, his hands unwavering as he tended to a bubbling vial of strange blue liquid.
"Did you hear about that guy named Samuel, darling?"
A sugary, mocking voice drifted through the air.
Maxwell’s expression contorted with fury. He slammed the vial onto the workbench, his grip turning his knuckles white.
"Everyone is obsessed with that cursed name. Samuel, Samuel, always fucking Samuel! Meanwhile, I have successfully developed pure mana—a feat no one else has even imagined—and yet I cannot reveal it to a soul!" His voice cracked under the weight of his rage, spray flying from his lips. "I am the one who deserves their worship! I should be the one they whisper about! Samuel isn't the one who will guide them through the Olden Gates. I will. They will have to rely on me because I possess the greatest power in this entire kingdom."
"Then what is your plan, darling?" the voice asked, teasing and sultry.
Madness flickered in Maxwell’s eyes. Clenching his jaw, he seized a test tube containing shimmering, pure blue mana. He saw his own reflection in the glass—a face twisted by envy and insanity.
"I’m going to kill him," he spat. "I want to butcher Samuel for stealing the glory that belongs to me. I am the one who should be in the spotlight. Only I am worthy of such fame."
A black demonic cat emerged from the shadows, its bat-like wings fluttering softly. Its crimson eyes glowed as it let out a purr.
"Then why wait, darling? If you slay the hero who conquered the demonic dragon Berthdolt, won't the world view you as even more powerful than him?"
Maxwell went still. The suggestion slithered into his thoughts, a poisonous temptation. Gradually, a sinister smirk stretched across his face.
"You’re right. I will become the most powerful being in this tower. All it takes is a single drop of pure mana in his meal… and he will die like a common bug. Hehehehe…" His manic laughter filled the lab. "Once Samuel is a rotting corpse, I will step into the light as the true champion. I’ll be celebrated as the greatest mage to ever live. You’re a genius, Ursula."
The cat tilted its head, purring with pride. "Well, I was much sharper back when I had my demon form… as your wife. Tell me, my love, when will you return my body to me?"
A rare moment of softness crossed Maxwell’s face. Leaning down, he pressed a kiss to the cat’s forehead.
"Soon. I will find a vessel worthy of your soul. I’ll bring you back to be my beautiful wife once more."
The cat’s purr deepened, vibrating with pleasure.
"But for now," Maxwell’s features hardened again, "I must discover where that bastard dines… and what he eats. Only then can I serve him his final meal."
Gripping the vial of pure mana, Maxwell marched out of the lab, his eyes burning with a lethal intent.

Somewhere in the Forest…
A heavy silence hung over the woods, broken only by the rustle of leaves and the sound of quiet weeping. Mira sat huddled beneath a massive tree, tears falling down her face.
Sob… Sob…
"Tears don't suit you, luv."
A voice cut through the quiet—deep, smooth, and laced with mockery.
Mira’s emerald eyes flew open, glowing dimly in the dark. Her grief vanished instantly, replaced by a sharp spark of rage. She lunged to her feet and spun around, her eyes locking onto a figure standing several meters away. Though the night shadows hid his face, his sheer presence made her skin crawl.
"Step any closer and I’ll burn you to a crisp." Her voice shook with anger as she manifested her ghastly blades, spectral weapons vibrating with lethal intent.
Anon merely smirked.
"Such aggression from a naked girl… I like it."
Mira’s eyes narrowed into slits. "Did my father send you to haul me back?"
Her fingers tightened around the hilts of her blades.
"No. I’m here of my own accord. Nobody sent me to—"
Mira didn't let him finish; she vanished.
Moving with a burst of speed, she appeared behind him, her twin blades swinging toward his neck in a deadly arc.
Clang!
Anon didn't even try to dodge. He simply raised a hand and trapped both blades between his palm and fingers, halting them effortlessly. Sparks of spectral energy hissed where the metal met his skin, but his hold was unbreakable; she couldn't pull them free.
"Relax, luv." His tone remained calm and mocking as he slowly turned his head toward her.
In the gloom, his eyes flared with a deep, radiant purple. They bled power and menace, hinting at something far more sinister.
Mira felt her blood turn to ice. Her survival instincts screamed at her to run. Without a second thought, she let go of her weapons and vanished, putting distance between them.
She reappeared ten meters away, her chest heaving as she scanned the area frantically.
But the spot where Anon had been standing was empty.
Her pupils contracted. "What—?"
Abruptly, a pair of hands wrapped around her waist from behind, dragging her back against a firm chest.
"Hello, luv."
Anon’s whisper grazed her ear, sending a cold shiver down her spine. Even without seeing him, she could feel the predator’s smile in his voice.
