Blink—Blink.
Berthdolt's eyelids twitched open, his sight blurry and unfocused. Standing over him was Anon, a cigar dangling lazily from the corner of his mouth.
Puff.
"Hello, Sleeping Beauty." Anon gave a mocking smirk, his voice heavy with arrogance as he pressed the sole of his boot against Berthdolt's nose.
"You… cursed demon," Berthdolt hissed, his body shivering with exhaustion as he fought to get up. "Do you truly understand… who I am?"
A dangerous, swirling light flickered within Anon's glowing eyes. He discarded the cigar with a flick and retreated a few steps, his smile radiating divine contempt.
"What's the matter? Get up. Weren't you supposed to be a formidable dragon? Or did you only develop those scales to hunt down defenseless girls?" Anon remarked, bringing the cigar back toward his nose.
"I-I will reduce you to ashes!" Berthdolt bellowed, forcing his shattered body to stand upright, his pride refusing to let him submit.
---
From a distance, the gathered crowd of students and teachers erupted in gasps.
"Good god… that's the demonic dragon…"
"Why is he even attempting to stand against him?!"
"Isn't that the person who took down a professor earlier?"
"He's a dead man! That's not just any dragon. That's Berthdolt—the King of the Demonic Dragon Clan. Even the King treats him with deference!"
Watching Anon with a cold sneer, one of the teachers remarked, "He's merely inviting death to the table."
---
Berthdolt's chest heaved as his breathing turned ragged. His mind burned with fury.
'This is impossible. A mere insect… piercing my defenses? Four of my magical cores have been destroyed. How can a nuisance… a demon such as him, inflict such damage? I cannot permit this! If this becomes known, the honor of my clan will be ruined. No… I must finish him this instant!'
His jaw pulled wide, and a sphere of pure black energy began to condense deep within his throat, emitting a sense of total destruction.
<DEMONIC FLAME BALL> The surrounding air began to warp.
---
The teachers' faces twisted in sheer alarm.
"That is a seventh-circle spell!"
"Unbelievable… he's actually going all out!"
"That brat… he's finished. Not even a speck of ash will remain!"
"Indeed, if he unleashes that spell, even we won't survive."
"What?"
"The impact of that spell will likely obliterate the tower as well."
"N-Noooo..."
"We must escape!"
The students shook with fear, some crying out in sheer terror.
[WARNING: ALL STUDENTS ARE COMMANDED TO RETURN TO THEIR DORMITORIES IMMEDIATELY. TEACHERS—DEPLOY FORMATION TWELVE DEFENSE AROUND THE TOWER.]
The command echoed again. In the following moment, the teachers began chanting fervently, constructing layer after layer of defensive barriers around the structure.
While most students fled, a few bold ones stayed behind, peering out from behind the teachers' protection with morbid fascination.
'What is this boy thinking? Besting a professor is one thing… but challenging Berthdolt? It's nothing short of suicide,' a teacher mused with a grim expression.
---
The black orb grew until the atmosphere itself seemed to scream under the pressure.
'Time to evaluate the true limits of my power...' Anon mused with a grin, bracing himself.
Berthdolt's voice roared like thunder. "DIE, NUISANCE!"
The Demonic Flame Ball launched forward with relentless velocity, slicing through the forest air.
SWISH.
The sky appeared to dim as it passed.
Yet, Anon did not waver. His face remained serene, his eyes fixed on the approaching destruction. With a slow, almost bored motion, he lifted his hand.
<QUANTUM REFLECT>
[Crystal of Creation has boosted the skill's potency.]
A translucent blue barrier manifested, vast and majestic, appearing like a shard of the heavens.
Anon's lips pulled into a smirk.
"My, oh my..." Anon whispered.
BOOOOOOOOOOM!
The world was torn asunder by the explosion. Vision was consumed by blinding light. The ground trembled from the shockwave. Smoke and dust smothered everything in the vicinity.
---
The students shrieked as the teachers braced against the violent blast.
As the dust began to dissipate, every gaze shifted toward the spot where Anon had stood.
A silence more profound than death filled the air.
"I-Is he gone?" the teacher whispered, unable to see through the haze.
"Oh no..." a student muttered with wide eyes, pointing a trembling hand toward the sky.
The teacher followed the student's gaze, only to see something hovering in the air: another Demonic Flame Ball.
As the air cleared, even more Demonic Flame Balls appeared, shocking everyone present—including Berthdolt.
"W-What is this—!?"
*Thud*
He recoiled in terror upon seeing hundreds of Demonic Flame Balls suspended in the sky.
*YAWWWNNNNNN*
Berthdolt looked down immediately to see Anon yawning while stretching his limbs.
"Y-You are no ordinary Demon..." Berthdolt stated with a grave expression.
"Hmm..? Are you certain that's what you should be saying right now?" Anon questioned, looking at him with a puzzled grin.
"What? Do you expect me, the proud leader of the greatest Demonic Clan, to kneel and beg for your forgiveness?" Berthdolt asked seriously.
"Well... if you have an heir ready to take your place, you can die in peace. But I believe I just saw your only daughter heading in that direction," Anon answered with a smile, eyeing Berthdolt.
"I am certain you would have slain me already if that was your goal... That implies you desire something from me, and perhaps we can negotiate a deal?" Berthdolt suggested, his expression neutralizing.
"You're exactly right... I could end you this second, but why kill you when a deal can be made?" Anon asked, smiling.
"I appreciate your logic... Name whatever it is you want," Berthdolt said firmly.
"I'll be taking your daughter," Anon declared with a smile while looking directly at him.
"What!?" Berthdolt asked, visibly stunned.
"I want your daughter, and in return, I will spare your life," Anon clarified.
"Haa... Very well. Since I have no son, I cannot afford to die yet. However, you must capture her yourself if you wish to claim her," Berthdolt stated calmly.
"Oh, don't concern yourself with that. I am quite skilled at catching girls," Anon remarked with a smile, snapping his fingers as every Flame Ball vanished instantly.
