"Does the System… affect everything?" I asked. "Even monsters and gods?"
Alice looked at me and sighed.
"No, monsters operate under a completely different 'system'—or rather, a different fundamental 'law' of existence," Alice explained carefully, her voice steady and precise as she laid out the complex mechanics. "After thorough analysis, I've discovered that if a vessel already possesses its own inherent law or falls under an established cosmic order, it becomes incompatible with the System. That is precisely why gods are unable to obtain your power no matter how hard they try. The same principle applies to most monsters. The only exception is if you directly turn them into a familiar. In that case, the System overrides and replaces their original law entirely. This process can technically be performed by anyone who possesses a System, but I am the final arbiter. For now, I will not allow malicious individuals to exploit it, especially since the System's range and influence are still relatively limited. However… I fear that once it expands across a much larger area, it may become nearly impossible for me to properly judge every single recipient."
"Hm, that complication comes naturally with what we're dealing with, unfortunately," I sighed, rubbing my temple lightly. The weight of managing such an immense power was beginning to settle in. "Well, whatever the case, that's the current situation! It has already been two full weeks since everything happened, so I'm sure most of you have already figured out how the System works by now…"
"Yeah!" Zephyrus nodded enthusiastically, his eyes sparkling with visible excitement. "It's really amazing… Some of my abilities have become noticeably stronger, smoother, and far more refined. It feels like I've gained an entirely new layer of potential."
"It's quite handy, I'll admit," my father said in his usual steady, calm tone, arms crossed over his broad chest. "But I won't rely on it completely. Our own cultivation remains important and fundamental. True strength should always come from within."
"I really appreciate the help though," my mother added warmly, her voice filled with genuine affection as she looked at me with soft, loving eyes. "It truly feels as if we've been personally blessed by our own daughter. Still, I agree with your father, we mustn't become too dependent on external power."
"It's fine," I replied with a gentle smile, warmth spreading through my chest at their sincere words. "Honestly, it was mostly a desperate move at the time. I'm just glad it helped the weaker people grow stronger and face the monsters more effectively. It also cleansed the curse rather quickly, since I infused that purifying power directly into the System itself."
"Yeah, about that…" my father muttered, his expression turning serious and thoughtful as a shadow crossed his face. "The curse…"
"Is Grandpa here?" I asked, a hint of concern slipping into my voice.
"He is," my mother replied softly. "He's currently in town, helping with the rebuilding efforts. He has been staying at the Dwarf King's Palace for the last two weeks."
"Wow, is this the first time he's been away from the capital for so long?" I wondered aloud, slightly surprised.
"He periodically asks me to teleport him back and forth to the capital every one or two days," my mother sighed, a mix of fondness and mild exasperation in her tone. "Oh, that stubborn old man…"
I let out a soft laugh. "Hahaha, I guess he misses Grandma?"
"It's actually the opposite!" my mother sighed again, shaking her head. "My mother starts crying because she feels lonely without him. Then Father has to rush back just to comfort her… She's still so childish even at her age! Father is in his last century now. I can't imagine how she's going to act once he's truly gone…"
"Hmm, it's going to be sad. Let's not think about that right now," my father said gently yet firmly, placing a reassuring hand on my mother's shoulder. "So, anyway, about the curse… it's mostly still affecting the monsters, from what we can tell. Thankfully, all the people who were corrupted have already returned to normal."
"The monsters, huh?" I murmured thoughtfully, my mind turning over the troubling implications. "Aquarina told me that Lolth surrendered. Isn't she supposed to be controlling them?"
"She claims she can still give them orders," my mother replied, facepalming in mild exasperation. "But they've grown far more independent now. Many can simply choose to ignore her commands. The moment she told them to stop fighting and rest, they seemed to get even angrier at her. Only the monsters from her own dungeon obey her directly, since she's physically there with them. The rest have basically become rebels. We'll eventually have to exterminate the dangerous ones… We were actually planning to ask you to visit the remaining dungeons, purify them, and take them over when you're ready."
"Yeah, I guess I'll have to do that," I nodded without hesitation. "No problem at all. I wanted to test a lot of other abilities anyway. Besides, everyone's here now, right? It'll be much easier to purify the dungeons with all of us working together… Come to think of it, where is everyone else?"
"Your uncle, Ninhursag, Felicia, and all your friends are at the city, helping with the rebuilding efforts," Shade explained. "They're cooking meals and feeding the victims, setting up camps, hunting for fresh food, clearing debris, and doing everything else that needs to be done. We can go meet them whenever you're ready."
"Sounds like a wonderful idea so you all can get together again!" Nepheline said brightly, her energetic enthusiasm instantly lifting the mood in the room. "How about it, Sylphy?"
"Sounds perfect, Auntie," I nodded with a warm smile. "I also really want to meet and see everyone again."
I had been quietly worried about what they were doing and why they weren't here earlier, but a deep wave of relief washed over me now. Knowing they were all safe and simply working hard to help others as usual filled me with pride. They truly were heroes in their own right, tireless and selfless even after surviving such a devastating catastrophe.
Honestly, I was still a little surprised that everyone had taken the news of me becoming a goddess so calmly. Then again, they had two full weeks to process the shocking reality and accept it. Now they seemed pretty relaxed and chill about most things, which I deeply appreciated. Big, dramatic reactions to everything could become exhausting after a while. Besides, they were all tired too. At this point, it had almost become normal for me to do strange or overwhelmingly powerful things.
"So anyway, about those wings…" my mother said, her eyes widening with wonder as she pointed at the shimmering appendages floating gently behind me. "They're… really quite shocking, aren't they?"
"Ah, yeah…" I muttered, glancing back at the beautiful yet unfamiliar new wings that glowed with a soft, ethereal light. "I-I don't really know how to explain them fully… Well, actually, I do know how it happened. My bloodline is deeply connected to a particular Skill. Once that Skill evolved into a Divine Skill alongside the awakening of my Divinity of the System, it transformed into something tied directly to the ancient origins of our bloodline. Mom… you don't have fairy wings yourself?"
