I felt dizzy.
I couldn't quite tell how much time had passed. My memories felt strange, sparse, and fragmented, as if I were slowly dissolving into a thick, formless goop.
Slowly, like a caterpillar inside a chrysalis, I was reduced to my most primordial biological components in preparation for rebirth. And slowly, I technically died and stopped being my old self. Yet after death came rebirth. I didn't truly die.
Even though people say a caterpillar dies and the butterfly emerges as a completely new and separate organism born from its sacrifice, that may not be entirely true. After all, the butterfly retains the memories of the caterpillar. There is a soul that keeps both versions connected—the "me" that died before and the "me" that was reborn now.
As I sank deeper into an endless sea of pure white light and countless shimmering rainbow colors, I felt a gentle warmth enveloping me from all sides. The dizziness gradually faded away, and my mind had never felt clearer. It was an enlightening, almost incredible experience that touched the very core of my being.
As this transformation continued, I felt my powers and my System becoming even more deeply integrated with myself. Every cell in my body now carried a fragment of this power. It was no longer an external force. It was becoming me. And this "me" was also expanding across the globe, soaking into the air, the earth, and the water, flowing through every living being that was compatible with my essence.
For a brief moment, it felt as though I was experiencing what it meant to be the world itself, or rather, a natural law woven into its fabric. This was what it felt like to fully form a True Divinity and become part of the World's Law.
But was it really limited to this world? The sensation stretched far beyond, reaching toward the stars themselves and even further if I wished. Still, it would take an immense amount of time and strength to go that far in my current state, so I gently pulled back and sank once more into the soft, fluffy warmth of this endless sea of colorful lights.
And then, I heard a faint, familiar voice behind me.
"Sylphy…?"
I slowly turned toward the source of the voice and found a gorgeous lady made of radiant white and golden light. She possessed a pair of giant butterfly wings that shimmered beautifully and a glowing halo floating above her head like a crown.
"Huh? You're…?"
I couldn't recognize her at first because she appeared both majestic and gigantic. She was utterly enormous, hundreds of meters tall. The sight reminded me of the first time I met the Gods as a child and how overwhelmingly massive they had all seemed. True Titans capable of traversing the cosmos and the stars with ease.
"Alice?"
But I recognized that gentle smile and that warm voice. It was my Alice.
I smiled brightly, filled with joy, and flew toward her, wrapping my arms around her belly in a tight embrace.
"Alice! I'm so glad you're okay… Is this a dream?"
As I asked in a slightly dazed voice, Alice smiled warmly and held me carefully with her large hand. She lifted me up gently and planted a kiss on me with her gigantic lips, which were beautifully covered in golden lipstick.
"Master! I'm so happy! Mooch, mooch! I was so worried about you! You've been sleeping for a long while now. I slowly gathered your consciousness back into place. It seems that you've finally recovered your sense of self!"
"E-Eh?" I muttered, realizing I had taken on a spiritual form, some kind of astral avatar in this space. "I was out for a while? What… ugh… What happened? My memories are— Wait, right! We were fighting, right? Dimenion… Damn it! That guy! D-Did we defeat him?"
"It seems your memories are still not completely back. It will take some time," Alice sighed softly. "But yes, Dimenion is no more. He has been erased from this world thanks to the combined efforts of everyone, led by you!"
"O-Oh! Nice…" I muttered. "But where are we?" I wondered. "A-And what happened to me?"
"A lot happened," Alice said with another sigh. "Don't you remember? The battle against Dimenion, your body being terribly damaged, and then you rebuilding it using the strength and power of the Dungeon Cores to temporarily transform yourself into a god form."
"Ah!"
Suddenly, dozens of memories flashed through my mind at once, helping me recall more of what I had experienced.
"Right…"
I let out a deep sigh, realizing how tragic everything had been, yet we had still succeeded. We won.
"Thankfully we won," Alice sighed in relief. "But not without a price… Your body and soul were at their absolute limit. You were unable to keep up and would have faded away…"
"…W-Why?" I asked, the painful memories resurfacing. "I remember being so tired…"
"Exactly," Alice insisted gently. "It was because you pushed yourself too far. You forced yourself to channel and amplify your divine power instead of building it gradually like a muscle. Of course you managed to push through and gain immense power, but that 'muscle' was essentially destroyed in the process."
"Ah… yeah…"
I remembered the feelings I had back then. Self-sacrifice. I had been ready to give up my own life and soul to save everyone and stop this evil from spreading further. I did it without thinking about my own safety. I had grown too used to my abilities and believed I could somehow pull through no matter what.
"At the end, it was thanks to everyone sharing their lifeforce and soul energy with you that I was able to reconstruct you in time…" Alice sighed with clear relief. "Or else, both of us would have died…"
I fell silent for a moment, recalling the warm hug everyone had given me and how they had saved me in return. These bonds I had built, my big family, my friends, everyone—even Lolth for some reason—had all come together to help me, just as I had once helped them.
I guess they didn't owe me anything anymore.
But still.
I shouldn't be laughing about it. I needed to apologize.
"I'm sorry…"
"Because of my stupidity, you almost died…"
"I thought you would have survived even if I died, but I guess not…"
Alice sighed softly, smiling back at me with kindness as she nodded and caressed my hair gently with her finger. "It's okay… I know you were doing everything because you're a good person, Sylphy… That's why I love you," she said warmly, kissing my face again. "I'll do anything for you too."
"Aww!" I cried out emotionally. "Alice! I love you too! Lots!" I said, hugging her face tightly and kissing her cheeks repeatedly.
Alice giggled innocently and cutely as we shared a tender, heartfelt moment together, just the two of us in this peaceful sea of light.
