The protagonist acquires a new Skill Rune and contemplates its origin, while reviewing numerous valuable items obtained from recent hunts, including Skill Scroll Fragments and rare treasure chests. He experiments with a Blazing Infernal Tree Necklace, summoning a powerful golem, and discusses the potential use of his remaining items with his familiars. Beelzebub expresses a desire to evolve, proposing to absorb the remains of Arachne as a means of honoring his former apprentice.

Furoh seemed genuinely pleased with how much Beelzebub had changed. "You’ve experienced a good life with Anna, one you never had before, right?" he asked. "You’ve had days of rest and reflection. You’ve trained, grown stronger, eaten well, traveled. That has to heal your soul at least a little, right? Come on now."

As he spoke, Beelzebub cringed, looking annoyed.

"..."

He fell silent, staring at the red sky. For the first time, he was taking things seriously instead of pretending to be the same demon he always acted like.

"...Perhaps the cracks already showed when my King died," he sighed, his voice heavy with sorrow. "I... I really just wanted to die. Maybe that’s why I charged so recklessly against your parents. I was overcome by grief and anger... and sorrow. The King was like a father to most of us Demon Lords. He took half of us in when we were very young. He practically adopted us and raised us."

"...!" I was shocked. Beelzebub never spoke about these things.

He was opening his heart out of nowhere.

"I had no idea. You never told us that..." I whispered.

"Hah, I planned to take that to the grave, but I guess death was too good for a miserable weakling like me," he muttered. "When they stormed the castle, the only reason I survived was because... I ran away. I couldn’t face your parents and their friends, the heroes. I had fought them before, and they crushed my entire army. I was afraid."

"...Beelzebub."

"But the King... he didn’t mind," Beelzebub said quietly. "He told all surviving Demon Lords to escape and find refuge. He said we were his precious family, and that he would face the heroes alone. That it was his duty as Demon King."

"..." I fell silent, thinking about his words. "Duty, huh? All for a pointless war that never ends. And now we know it was all orchestrated to maintain some kind of balance against the planet’s forces. It’s not just humans who are controlled. Demons too are treated like pawns."

"...Yeah," Beelzebub sighed. "We really are just pawns in a much bigger war, one we can’t even begin to understand."

"..."

"..."

"It’s not completely like that," I said. "We still have independence. We just can’t let others influence us negatively."

"Hm, but it almost feels like fate," Beelzebub said. "And I only escaped my fated death because you stubbornly revived me as a spirit. I should’ve died and joined everyone else."

"Well, do you want to die?" I asked.

"...!" His eyes widened. "Of course not! Why would I want to die?! Do you think I’m that pathetic?!"

"Then stop sulking. This isn’t like you," I said.

"Hmph, I wasn’t doing anything," Beelzebub groaned.

"Well, the change can start with us," I said. "I’ll make sure you become the Demon King, Beelzebub."

"What?! But isn’t there already one?! And you’re actually keeping your promise?! I thought you were messing with me!"

"Of course I’m keeping it. Who do you think I am?" I asked. "I always keep my promises. And you want change, don’t you? You came from a humble background and suffered a lot. You’ve done terrible things, but you also did good for your people. You’ve lived with me and learned what a better life feels like. There’s no better candidate for a King than you."

"I... really?" he asked softly. "Am I really a good candidate? But what do you mean by making me King? Isn’t there already one? Some kid?"

"There is one, according to the dreams I shared with Aquarina..." I muttered. "But I don’t know. I can’t trust him. Especially if he was forced into that position."

"Then what do you suggest? You haven’t even left this mountain in years, and you talk like you’ve seen the whole world," Beelzebub sighed. "Are you going to kill him for me? You know I’m supposed to be loyal to him, right? If we find him, I’ll have to serve him."

"Don’t be ridiculous. We’ll just hold democratic elections," I said. "And serve him? You’re not even a citizen of the Demon Continent anymore. You have no obligation."

"Uh... huh..." he groaned. "Whatever. Not like it matters. We’re in the middle of a burning dungeon trying to erase a curse. You talk like these things will happen tomorrow. You’ve barely stepped outside your country. Live a little before you start spouting nonsense."

"You don’t have to be so mean," I sighed. "I’m just planning ahead. There’s nothing wrong with that. And I will experience more of the world. You’re all impatient. An elf like me can take it easy. I’ve got a loooong lifespan."

I shrugged and ignored his complaints as I moved to the next items.

I decided to use the Ancient Spirit Fortune Coins, since they increased my Maximum Luck Stat and made her stronger as well.

The coins turned into light that melded into my body with each use.

[Total Luck]: 52

"Uooh! Wow, that’s a lot!"

I felt my Aura of Fortune expanding around me. Luck herself grew stronger, her golden form shining even brighter.

"There are these Crystalized Blessings of the Wandering God too, but... maybe I could use them as evolution materials," I said. "They have a lot of divine power."

However...

The Divine Favor Stat is incredibly powerful.

[Divine Favor]: Governs blessings, miracles, or interventions from higher powers.

The higher it is, the better. I still don’t know exactly how it works, since I haven’t experienced any intervention yet, but blessings and miracles might happen.

The higher the chance, the better. Can I really risk wasting that?

Nope.

And I have over six of these. I’ll use three for now and save the other three. That should be fine.

[Your Luck Stat’s Divine Favor has increased by +90.]
