Reborn as an Extra Chapter 911: Plans. Limit-Breaker. Part-2.
Previously on Reborn as an Extra...
"The current fairy race only has about 200 recorded members left, and from what we have known, they are divided into four groups, with each being led by a respective overlord (S-rank) fairy."
A map was unrolled across the table, and the group leaned over it to follow the places that were marked on it.
"The first one is the one that lives near the Reverse Waterfall and has the highest population out of all four groups. It’s mainly made up of water elemental fairies."
On the map, a thin silver line curved upward against the flow of a river, and the notes beside it were written in a delicate, flowing script.
"Two of the groups live in the central plains of the fairyland near the grand swamp of flames, which are the Fire elemental fairies and the Earth elemental fairies. These two groups often have conflicts among them due to living in the same place..."
His finger tapped twice on the map, and the faint frown on his forehead made it clear that this was a problem he had thought about for a long time.
"Finally there are the wood elemental fairies that live near the newly built temple of heavens. The remaining pieces of the broken source of all elemental life exist in that temple..."
The mention of the temple made Lia’s eyes brighten slightly, and she bent closer to the map with a thoughtful and curious expression.
"We need to save and rescue all these tribes and ensure that the population of the fairy race doesn’t fall lower than it already has!"
His fist closed gently on the table, and the sincerity in his voice proved that he cared about these small, fragile lives far more than his stern appearance suggested.
Just when the Dragon King was introducing the various fairy tribes, a frown appeared on Lia’s face, and she asked in confusion,
"Wait, did you say that the fire elemental fairies and earth elemental fairies were in conflict often? That’s... hard to believe! From what I know of fairies, they are peace and freedom loving beings... why would they even fight each other!?"
She raised her hand a little, as though she were a student in a classroom, and the movement was so natural that it made the tense mood soften for a moment.
Her voice carried more disbelief than anger, and it was clear that the idea had struck a quiet wrong note somewhere deep inside her.
Lia had personally seen a mirage of the forgotten kingdom of fairies, and the memories of that time were still vivid in her mind.
She could still remember the soft glow of floating lanterns, the sound of children laughing in the branches, and the warm smell of flowers in a world that no longer existed.
From what she had seen, it was clear that fairies were peace-loving creatures that showed kindness even to humans who were persecuting them back then.
It had been one of the gentlest sights she had ever witnessed, and it had left a mark upon her heart that the passing of time had not faded in the slightest.
Aside from demons, the fairy race really didn’t have any hatred towards anyone, and they lived in peace and harmony until they were invaded by others.
Even in the memories of that old kingdom, they had never raised a hand without being forced to, and their greatest wish had always been a quiet and peaceful life.
So, it was really hard for Lia to fathom that the calm and peaceful fairies would fight among each other and have conflicts like that.
She searched her thoughts for some explanation, but every answer she found only left a small and uneasy ache in her chest.
"About that... sigh, as you know that fairies have been persecuted for almost two thousand years now, and around the end of the thousand-year war... their main source of hope, ’Goddess of Life, Astra,’ went missing too suddenly..."
"This led to another massacre caused by the demon and other corrupted beings, and the fairies were then taken under the protection of the dragons..."
It was a dark Chapter that the dragons themselves rarely spoke about, and the discomfort on his face showed that the memory was not one of pride.
"The collapse of that faith and the disappearance of Lady Astra led to a major change in the fairy race as a whole... this is also one of the main reasons why I didn’t let you guys visit them the last time you were here..."
Faith, once broken, was a wound that did not heal like flesh, and it had left the survivors with a hollow place that no kindness could easily fill.
Dragon King Idri looked into Lia and Riya’s eyes deeply before saying in a calm voice,
"The current fairy race is not what you are thinking it used to be... the legends of the past do not describe them anymore. Thousands of years of persecution can change even the most mellow and docile person into a demon..."
His voice was gentle, but there was unshakeable seriousness in it, the kind that a father uses when he wishes to protect his children from a painful truth.
"The fairies of the current generation do not like humanity... they even think that King Allen and Astra had betrayed them as they both went missing without providing a proper safe haven for them."
Such grief had hardened into something sharper over the centuries, and anyone who heard it could easily imagine how bitter those centuries of waiting had been.
"They are more or less hostile to humans and a lot of other races nowadays who didn’t help them back then during the massacre... If not for the fact that fairies had themselves invited Rio over, I wouldn’t have recommended anyone to enter the fairyland..."
He shook his head slowly, and it was obvious that he had once tried to change their minds and had learned the limits of what his words alone could do.
"At most I would have only asked Rio to deal with the dungeon and then leave right away without having contact with the fairies..."
