Ming Wei prepares to move back home with her adoptive mother, Kang Li, and father, Luo Yanqing, after a confrontation with her biological mother, Feng Lu. Feng Lu attempts to stop Ming Wei from leaving, but Luo Yanqing intervenes. Meanwhile, Han Qian dismisses Feng Lu, unaware that Feng Lu is now married to Han Qian's father. Later, Kang Li discusses the similarities between Feng Lu's treatment of Ming Wei and Feng Yi's past experiences with her own stepmother.

After a short pause, Kang Li's expression grew somewhat stern: "Whether it's a biological mother or a stepmother, even with personal biases, it's not unusual in my view for them to treat biological and stepchildren differently, but it shouldn't reach extremes."

To neglect one's own child while wholeheartedly doting on stepchildren, or conversely, to favor one's own child and mistreat stepchildren, neither is proper. After all, children possess thoughts and awareness; they can perceive the good and ill intentions surrounding them. When they come to realize they are the ones being overlooked or mistreated, how can they not feel a sense of alienation or resentment?

Cai Xiufen chimed in, "Hanhan and Vivi must have felt terrible back then."

Kang Li responded, "It shouldn't have escalated to such a degree."

"Why do you say that?" Cai Xiufen inquired, full of doubt.

"Our family's children have never lacked love."

There were never any grand expectations placed upon them by their biological mother, so her words or actions wouldn't have inflicted pain. Yet, the bond of blood can be quite perplexing. Kang Li remained unsure of the twins' true feelings when confronted with their mother's favoritism towards her stepdaughter.

"Indeed, you've always been there for Ruirui and the other two, just as your father and your Big Brother Kang have. We all treat Ruirui and the others as if they were our own children."

Upon hearing this, Kang Li offered a smile and said, "Ruirui, Hanhan, and Vivi don't consider our family as outsiders either. They genuinely regard you and my father as their true grandparents, and they view Old Kang’s Home as their Qin External Family. You and my father can look forward to basking in the joy brought by the children!"

"I certainly enjoy the happiness my daughter brings."

Cai Xiufen chuckled.

"That's undeniable. Years ago, your daughter vowed to provide her parents with endless happiness!" For several years, Kang Li had diligently arranged medical check-ups for Captain Kang and Cai Xiufen. Prior to their departure abroad, she personally escorted them to the hospital; after they relocated overseas, she arranged for someone to manage the arrangements, and either Big Brother Kang and his wife or Kang Guoan would accompany them for their check-ups. Based on the results of these annual examinations, both Captain Kang and his wife were found to be in excellent health, without any significant concerns. However, as individuals age, maintaining one's health becomes crucial, and Kang Li had dedicated considerable thought to ensuring their well-being.

"You're still the same mischievous child as ever!"

Cai Xiufen playfully teased her deeply cherished daughter.

"I'm not mischievous; I'm simply being filial." Kang Li blinked and then suggested, "Mom, why don't you and Dad take a nap in your room? I'll wait for Luo Yanqing to return, and then we'll head back to school to pick up the children after their classes."

"I've mentioned before, if we had enrolled the children in the same kindergarten Ruirui and the others attended, you and Yanqing wouldn't have to worry about the daily commute."

"Your mother is right; we elderly folks have nothing pressing to do. Now that Ruirui and the others no longer require us to pick them up, assisting you with picking up the children is quite pleasant."

"I simply don't want to burden either of you!"

"We understand, we understand. You don't want your father and me to be worn out, but we're just sitting around with ample free time; our bones are practically gathering rust!"

"Aren't the flowers, plants, and various vegetables in the courtyard all tended to by the two of you? Moreover, if you truly find yourselves bored, you could always visit our neighbors and engage in conversation with the other elderly folks in the vicinity. Before you know it, the day will have passed."

At this juncture, Kang Li's thoughts drifted to Kang Guoan and his wife. It was true, following his university graduation last year, Kang Guoan had officially registered his marriage with Wang Pan, and Wang Pan was now five months pregnant. This meant she would be giving birth in a few months, and at that time, Cai Xiufen, as a mother-in-law, would likely be expected to assist with postpartum care.

"Mom, what are your plans concerning my Fifth Sister-in-law's postpartum care?" Immediately after posing the question, Kang Li continued without awaiting Cai Xiufen's reply, "Perhaps I could hire someone to manage it? That way, at your age, you wouldn't have to exert yourself unnecessarily."

"That wouldn't be appropriate."

Cai Xiufen shook her head. "Whenever your eldest sister-in-law to your fourth sister-in-law gave birth, while I may not have always been present, I still provided care for approximately two months for each. Now that it's your Fifth Sister-in-law's turn, if I don't personally see to her care, how could she possibly feel at ease?"

"My Fifth Sister-in-law was my university classmate; she likely won't place too much importance on it."

"What does being classmates have to do with anything? You are not your Fifth Sister-in-law. If I, as a mother-in-law, were to treat her with favoritism, who can say what she might whisper into your younger brother's ear? If you truly concern yourself with your younger brother, then cease trying to convince your mother to assist with your Fifth Sister-in-law's recovery after childbirth."

"I am concerned about my mother. As for my younger brother, does a grown man like him require my affection?" Kang Li let out a soft snort, her tone tinged with a hint of bitterness: "Ever since he took a wife, his entire focus has been on her. It feels like he's forgotten he even has a sister."
