Feng Lu worries about Han Qian revealing Luo Mingwei's parentage at school. Ming Wei arrives and asserts her place in the household, much to Han Qian's fury. Their argument escalates, with Han Qian threatening to expose Ming Wei's background. Just as an understanding seems to form between mother and daughter, Kang Li and Min Rui arrive, much to Feng Lu's displeasure.

Feng Lu interjected, cutting off Kang Li: "Save your pity! The child born to me in the future will never need external support!" With the Han family as a safety net and Han Bin’s business empire to inherit, the notion that her child with Han Bin would require assistance from others was utterly laughable!

"You should not speak with such certainty. After all, life is neither excessively long nor fleetingly short. Who can truly guarantee they won't face unforeseen circumstances? And should the day come when you require help, Lady Feng, do you truly believe your own kin would offer it, or would it be a stranger extending a hand?"

Kang Li found herself in agreement with the latter part of her own statement.

Particularly when significant matters of finances or life itself were concerned, blood relatives might hesitate to assist, whereas a stranger could offer aid out of sheer goodwill.

Nevertheless, at this precise moment, in order to shield Luo Mingrui's trio from Feng Lu's influence, Kang Li resolved to maintain her original stance, keeping Feng Lu engaged in conversation.

Indeed, Feng Lu lowered her gaze, contemplating Kang Li's words for a brief spell before meeting Kang Li's eyes once more: "Very well, I comprehend. Regardless of any outcome, Luo Mingrui and the others are still my offspring; I would never bring harm to them."

Having secured Feng Lu's promise, Kang Li rose to her feet with a smile: "It is indeed wonderful that Lady Feng holds such sentiments."

Upon hearing this, Feng Lu secretly rolled her eyes, perceiving a hint of condescension from Kang Li.

Yes, it was true she felt no affection for the three children she had borne, and her insistence on Luo Mingwei residing with them stemmed from her own hidden agenda. However, she was far from a heartless wretch who would cruelly inflict harm upon three innocent little ones without cause!

Unaware of Feng Lu's inner turmoil, Kang Li followed her out of the study, and together they descended to the first floor.

"Mom!"

Upon spotting Kang Li, Luo Mingrui promptly rose from the sofa and called out.

"Mom simply wishes to have a brief conversation with Vivi, and then we shall be heading home." With a gaze full of tenderness, Kang Li offered a nod to the young man before shifting her attention to Ming Wei: "Vivi."

She addressed the young girl.

Ming Wei turned her head to look at him but remained silent.

Kang Li displayed no sign of annoyance. Instead, she smiled and inquired: "Would you prefer to come home with me and your elder brother?"

"I wish to remain with my mother," Ming Wei stated with unwavering resolve. Hearing this, Kang Li's expression remained warm: "Very well." She then turned her attention back to Feng Lu: "Lady Feng, since Vivi desires to stay with you, then by all means, let her remain for the time being. Before nightfall, I shall arrange for the driver to deliver some fresh clothing and essential daily items for Vivi."

"There is no need. My husband will bring whatever Ming Wei requires once he returns from work," Feng Lu declined.

"Vivi has been afforded a rather pampered upbringing, and she is unaccustomed to ordinary comforts." With that, Kang Li had seemingly made up her mind. She then continued, addressing Ming Wei: "Should you decide to return home, you may accompany your second brother after school to the main courtyard. However, do remember to inform your mother beforehand, before you leave for school in the morning. This way, should you choose not to return here after classes conclude this afternoon, your mother will not be left worrying about your whereabouts."

As Kang Li spoke, Ming Wei's eyes began to sting, and her heart felt a heavy burden. Had her mother truly given up on her? Otherwise, why wouldn't her mother press her further or insist on taking her home?

Kang Li perceived the shift in Ming Wei's emotions but chose to feign ignorance. It wasn't that she lacked heart, but rather that the young girl possessed a stubborn streak; the more she was told not to do something, the more insistent she became. It was evident that the young girl was harboring secrets from the family and was resistant to advice, adamantly choosing to stay with her biological mother. Therefore, as her stepmother, Kang Li decided to allow her this freedom.

She was confident that there would come a point when the young girl's resolve would falter, and at that moment, without needing to delve deeply, the child would naturally reveal her hidden truths.

With this thought in mind, Kang Li approached Ming Wei, bent down, and gently stroked the young girl's head, her eyes crinkling with a smile: "Listen to your mother. Inform your second brother if you require anything, or feel free to contact me directly."

From her purse, she produced two hundred yuan and placed it into the young girl's hand: "School is commencing soon; keep this money for your personal expenses. Do not concern yourself with the registration fees; Mom will handle that for you."

"I do not want your money!"

Ming Wei suppressed her tears and attempted to return the money to Kang Li but was gently held back: "Take it. You are growing older now; whether it's for a classmate's birthday celebration or if you wish to purchase supplementary study materials, it is always more convenient to have funds readily available."

As she spoke, Kang Li drew the young girl into an embrace, patting her back softly. "Mom genuinely misses you, and Bun and the others miss their big sister terribly. If you find yourself longing for them, feel free to visit home for a playdate. Oh, and Mom has brought you several new outfits this time; I shall have them delivered to you shortly."
