Kang Li prepares gifts for her loved ones as Luo Yanqing and Captain Kang prepare to return home. While feeling melancholic about their departure, Kang Li and Luo Yanqing discuss their impending separation, their shared future, and the achievements of the Kang family. Later, Kang Li mentions Austin's request for information about Shen Yun and her son, Jian, prompting Luo Yanqing to recall Shen Yun's persistent, unwanted attention.

Kang Li, speaking with a measured pace and a perpetual smile, provided a summary of the situation concerning Shen Yun. Naturally, she omitted any unsavory details. For instance, she didn’t mention how Shen Yun had returned to the country with the intention of pursuing Luo Yanqing, nor the fact that even after several years, she harbored unrealistic hopes for Luo Yanqing despite being married.

After a significant pause, Austin softly remarked, "I believe what you're telling me, but based on my understanding of Jian's mother, she probably doesn't pay much attention to Jian."

Hearing this, a flicker of doubt crossed Kang Li's clear eyes. "If you believe your ex-wife might neglect Jian, why did you entrust the child to her during the divorce and agree to have no further contact with her and Jian?"

Austin responded with a touch of bitterness, "Jian's mom and I became involved under the influence of alcohol. To put it plainly, she wasn't with me out of affection but felt a sense of obligation after losing her virginity to me and thus agreed to register our marriage. You understand, in such matters, women are at a disadvantage, and Jian's mom is a rather conservative girl. She cried incessantly afterward, feeling as if her world had ended. Seeing her distress, I felt guilty and proposed marriage, thinking we could attempt to build a life together. Should we find ourselves unable to develop feelings or if she couldn't go on, I would agree to an unconditional divorce. Initially, our marriage was relatively harmonious, but as time went on, Jian's mom grew increasingly short-tempered. She would lash out at me whenever she saw me. Believing she was in a foreign country and now my wife, I endured her behavior in every way possible, telling myself that things might improve once we had a child. However, that was merely my own wishful thinking, a hope held solely by me. After giving birth to Jian, Jian's mom became even more volatile than before, throwing tantrums at home when things didn't suit her, frightening the child to the point where he hesitated to approach her. When Jian was nearing his third birthday, his mother finally expressed her desire for a divorce, wanting to return to her home country, and insisted on full custody of Jian. She claimed Jian was an extension of herself and that he needed to be by her side, stating that if she didn't have him, I, as her husband, would be taking her life. She wept, she pleaded, and ultimately, I had no choice but to let her take Jian with her."

Kang Li remained silent for a moment after Austin finished speaking, then she said, "You need to be prepared."

"Prepared? For what?" Austin inquired, his brow furrowed in confusion.

Kang Li, without hesitation, stated plainly, "Jian is quite introverted. When he plays with other children, he typically remains on the sidelines, observing quietly without speaking or engaging."

Austin was taken aback for an instant before asking, "Jian isn't being bullied by the other children, is he?"

"I haven't witnessed it myself, but whether he's been bullied or not, you can ask him yourself when you see him." Kang Li was speaking the truth; she hadn't observed anything untoward in the courtyard. As for Jian's experiences at kindergarten or elementary school, she hadn't heard any complaints from Hanhan or Vivi, suggesting it's possible the child is naturally introverted rather than being a victim of bullying.

"I... I'll book a flight and head over there tomorrow..." Austin began, but then paused as something occurred to him. He asked, "Do you have some time available?" Before Kang Li could reply, he continued, "I'd like to buy some toys and clothes for Jian, but I'm unsure what would be best. If you have some free time, would you mind accompanying me to the mall?"

"Let's go," Kang Li replied, standing up. However, as Austin also rose, she added, "Please wait a moment; I need to say hello to my grandfather and Aunt Fu." With that, Kang Li exited the living room.

Approximately three to four minutes later, the sound of footsteps descending the stairs could be heard. Austin looked up and asked, "Are you ready to go?" Kang Li appeared at the bottom of the stairs, nodding with a smile.

"Let me carry that for you," Austin offered, reaching for the bag Kang Li was holding.

Kang Li gently shook her head, declining his offer politely. "No need."

"Ride with me in my car." Austin opened the car door, gesturing for Kang Li to enter.

"I'll drive myself; it will be more convenient for me afterward, and it saves you the trouble of driving me back," she replied, shaking her head lightly. She then drove a white compact car out of the garage. "Lead the way," she instructed Austin, glancing out the window.

"Alright," Austin responded with a smile, despite the complex emotions swirling within him. It is worth noting that the white compact car Kang Li was driving had been specifically purchased by Jiang Boya for his cherished daughter, Kang Li.
