Rebirth Space Pretty Girl Chapter 2: Isn't this a scam?

Never did she anticipate that her return would occur twenty days later.
However, why was her family present in this location?
Furthermore, she was currently residing in a rental property from which the landlord was forcefully evicting her.
The sweltering heat only fueled Mr. Gao’s irritation and rage. Being lectured by a crowd pointing fingers at him made him even more lose his patience. With hands on his hips, he barked, "You all preach about being virtuous, so why don't you step up? If your hearts are truly so kind, take this brat back with you right now and look after her yourselves!"
The moment those words were uttered, the onlookers fell into a dead silence.
While the child was indeed pitiable, their own homes were cramped. Taking her in meant also accommodating her father and brother, and they simply had no spare room.
The villagers were far from wealthy; otherwise, who would pass up an opportunity to earn money?
Seeing their silence, Mr. Gao let out a mocking sneer. He turned to his two juniors and said with irritation: "What are you standing around for? Hurry up and dump her before she draws her last breath. If she dies inside, this house will lose all its value in the future."
The two women quickly began hauling the girl out of the house.
Mr. Gao then commanded: "Carry her to the tree and leave her there. If she ends up dying at our doorstep later, it will bring nothing but misfortune to our family, do you understand?"
"Understood."
Hearing them constantly discuss her death, Murong Lingran could no longer remain still. Feeling a spark of strength returning to her body, she was just about to open her eyes when a familiar, thunderous roar erupted: "What do you think you are doing!"
The crowd turned toward the sound and saw Murong Zhe and his son. Their eyes were wide with fury as they glared at the Gao family, causing the villagers to breathe a collective sigh of relief.
Now that they had finally returned, everything should be alright.
Murong Lingran felt a surge of joy; that was definitely her Daddy's voice.
The two Gao family juniors felt as though they were about to be devoured by those glares. With guilty consciences, they hurriedly set Murong Lingran down and retreated several steps.
Murong Zhe rushed forward to check his daughter's breathing and placed the back of his hand against her forehead. Finding her condition unchanged from before, he felt a weight lift from his chest.
Mr. Gao, showing not a shred of remorse upon their return, spoke dismissively: "You’ve arrived at the perfect time. Take your daughter and get out. My mother's house is no longer for rent to you!"
Sister-in-law Tian’s face flushed with shame. The child's father had entrusted her with his daughter, yet she had failed in her duty.
"Lingran's father, I am terribly sorry. You paid me to look after her, but I..."
"Sister-in-law Tian, there is no need to blame yourself. I understand the situation."
She was a frail woman; there was no way she could have stood up against the heavy-set Gao and the group she had brought along.
Murong Zhe had never imagined that in the mere two days he was gone, his daughter would be cast out. He signaled for his son to hold her and fixed a cold stare on the Gao family: "Do not push things too far. Five days ago, you claimed your family had an emergency and desperately needed funds, forcing me to pay next month's rent in advance. Only a short time has passed, yet you throw my daughter and our belongings out while I am away. What is your goal? Are you intentionally trying to commit murder for money!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the crowd erupted into a commotion.
"What? You want to kick people out after demanding their money? Isn't this a scam?"
"That's right! Having already taken the payment, you still throw a sick person out while her father and brother are absent. This is truly heartless and disgraceful."
"I never realized Gao was this kind of person. I truly misjudged her character before."
Since it was midday, most of the villagers were finished with their work. More than a dozen people had gathered, and they all nodded their heads in heated agreement.
