Rebirth from the Ashes Chapter 794 Life After Marriage (3)

Following the twins' full moon celebration, Shen Xi brought the little ones back to the Shen family residence. Shangguan Yanqiu and Fu Handing simply couldn't bear to part from the children for even a second.
The barrier dividing the Li and Shen villas was demolished. Toffeecito moped sadly for days on end. Song Wenye chuckled, remarking that Toffeecito was heartbroken about no longer scaling the wall. After all, that wall had been its exclusive territory for over a year.
Eventually, Yu Yuanxi set up a ladder right where the wall once stood, and Toffeecito returned to its cheerful, bubbly nature. The cat made a habit of climbing up and down the ladder to reach the other side, treating it as an essential daily ritual.
Granny Yu had been living with the Shens ever since Song Wenye gave birth. Though elderly, she brimmed with vitality to tend to the baby, easing the burden for the young parents.
Shen Zhangqing and Yun Jinping couldn't stay home full-time to care for the child, as they resumed work after the baby turned one month old. They hired a confinement nanny to watch over the little one.
As an idol and public figure, Song Wenye needed to maintain her image. Thus, she began weaning her son off breast milk at his full moon.
Shen Xi entrusted childcare to Shangguan Yanqiu and her husband. Fu Qingxuan and the other brothers always set aside work to spend time with the babies. After all, the twins were far safer with family than with strangers.
When Li Yuan and Shen Xi arrived home with the children, Toffeecito—who hadn't seen them in two months—leaped about in pure excitement. It crouched beside the crib, sniffing at the newborns with intense curiosity.
"Toffeecito," Shen Xi called.
Toffeecito glanced back, then resumed studying the twins intently. Hesitantly, it extended a paw toward one tiny baby but swiftly pulled back in shyness.
With a gentle smile, Shen Xi took hold of its paw. "These are your siblings. Come touch them gently, but keep your claws in. You don't want to scratch them."
"Our Toffeecito acts so human-like. I bet it's actually human." Song Wenye entered carrying her baby and gazed at the scene with delight. "Yu Song almost fell from his crib once. Toffeecito sat guard and stopped him."
"Is Yu Song awake?" Shen Xi turned around and spotted the little boy in Song Wenye's arms staring at her with his big, shiny eyes.
Song Wenye and Yu Yuanxi's son was named Yu Song. Shen Zhangqing and Yun Jinping understood Granny Yu had raised Yu Yuanxi alone, so they gave the child the "Yu" surname to ensure the Yu family line continued.
"He just woke up." Song Wenye brought Yu Song closer while glancing at the twins in the stroller. "Tangtang is such a good girl. She can be my son's wife someday."
"Are you mad? You're my sister-in-law." Shen Xi rolled her eyes.
"That's backward thinking. We're only linked by household register. You and your brother share no blood relation. What's wrong with Tangtang as my daughter-in-law?" Song Wenye lectured Shen Xi sincerely, then added thoughtfully, "Why don't you change your name and shift your household register to the Fu family?"
Another idea striking her, Song Wenye smiled to herself. "Your brother counts as a Yu family child on the household register. That makes it simpler. By the register, we're not related at all."
Shen Xi rolled her eyes. "Who's got the backward thinking now? You're pushing arranged marriage. Everyone should freely choose who to date and marry. It's up to them."
The girls gathered together, chatting while keeping watch over the children.
Toffeecito froze in place, staring fixedly at the twins. If its eyes weren't blinking, people might mistake it for a statue.
Yu Song behaved perfectly in Song Wenye's arms. He stayed quiet without crying as long as someone held him. He'd started babbling incoherently, but nobody could make sense of it.
"Xixi, your crybaby is awake." Song Wenye pointed to the crib and teased.
The little fellow Li Mianmian could wail loud enough to shake the house. That's how he got the nickname "Crybaby".
But this time, the crybaby held back his tears even without seeing anyone nearby. His large, bright eyes stayed glued to Toffeecito.
Shocked by Mianmian's sudden wide-eyed stare, Toffeecito nearly slipped and fell. It steadied itself and craned its head to peer curiously at Mianmian.
Baby and cat locked eyes for ages until Mianmian shattered the quiet with a piercing cry.
The loud wails toppled Toffeecito right off its paws. In fright, it tumbled across the ground before scrambling up and spinning dizzily in circles.
Amused by the spectacle, Song Wenye burst into laughter. "Come here, Toffeecito."
Toffeecito glanced toward Song Wenye and let out a meow. Leaping onto the bed, it sniffed Yu Song before rubbing its head against him and swishing its tail his way.
Yu Song reached out with his arms to snag the tail. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't catch it. Yet he stayed patient without throwing a fit and kept trying.
"Toffeecito lets Yu Song play with its tail when he cries. That always stops him from crying." Song Wenye patted Toffeecito's head and pointed to the little one in Shen Xi's arms. "Go calm Mianmian down."
Toffeecito turned to look at the crybaby. Cocking its head, it moved closer to Mianmian and wagged its tail right in front of him.
Shen Xi saw the crybaby staring hard at Toffeecito's tail until his crying slowly faded. She chuckled as Mianmian reached out to grab the tail. "That's a real kid's toy right there."
Spoiling Toffeecito hadn't been for nothing. Now it could help soothe the babies.
"Toffeecito's the gentlest with kids," Song Wenye said with a smile. "Look at Tangtang. Nothing wakes her from sleep no matter how much crying."
"She'd never sleep if the crying got to her," Shen Xi joked.
Children usually startled at the slightest noise, and the crybaby's wails could shake the heavens. Tangtang would wake up if she weren't so laid-back right now.
Snow suddenly began falling outside. Pure snowflakes danced beyond the window as two handsome men, plastic bags in hand, strolled along chatting and laughing.
Upon reaching the lawn, they lifted their eyes to the bedroom window, filled with love and joy. There was their entire world.
