Rebirth from the Ashes Chapter 791 Pregnant
Previously on Rebirth from the Ashes...
Shen Xi stuck her tongue out while gagging, her stomach twisting violently. It was some time before the nausea passed. Exhausted, she caught her breath leaning against him. "I might have drunk too much."
Li Yuan frowned as he lifted her from the bathtub, dried her off carefully, dressed her in fresh clothes, and switched on the TV. Then he carried her out of the bathroom. "Doctors don't treat themselves. I'll get your brother to examine you."
Too tired to budge, Shen Xi just rested on his chest. "Of course, I can diagnose myself. I had too much to drink."
Even so, she lifted her head from him and began retching once more. Worried about vomiting on him, she pushed him to set her down.
Li Yuan gently placed the girl on the floor and pulled out his phone to dial Fu Qingxuan.
Fu Qingxuan rushed over carrying a first-aid kit and immediately started checking the sickly girl. Finding nothing obviously wrong, he creased his brow. "Can you be pregnant?"
Startled, Shen Xi felt her own pulse. The faint beat and her nausea interfered, making it hard to read clearly. With furrowed brows, she muttered under her breath, "It can't be."
Could it be she skimped on birth control precautions and struck gold just like Lil' Ye?
Thinking it over, it seemed quite possible. Li Yuan possessed amazing endurance, able to keep going endlessly. If she weren't in such good shape, Shen Xi would have been utterly drained.
"Let me see." Fu Qingxuan had learned some Traditional Chinese Medicine from Shen Xi and books, grasping the basics of pulse diagnosis.
Li Yuan knelt beside her, grasping her hand while his gaze showed concern, eagerness, and delight.
The unexpected pregnancy hadn't been part of their plans. He hadn't wanted kids this early.
Yet life wasn't always predictable. He welcomed the delightful twist.
Pulse reading unclear, Fu Qingxuan scowled. "Your pulse is faint and erratic. Why drink alcohol today?"
Frustration building, he jabbed a finger at Li Yuan. "And you! Why allow her to drink? She mustn't. What if she's pregnant for real?"
Alcohol was absolutely banned in pregnancy, particularly early stages. Shen Xi had indulged more than anyone during today's toasts.
Li Yuan accepted the scolding, knowing it was his fault. Supporting her waist, he lifted her up. "We should head to the hospital for an examination."
Not ready to drop it, Fu Qingxuan wagged his finger at them. "If something happens to the child… Wait up!"
Without time to gather the first-aid kit, Fu Qingxuan hurried after them.
What was up with this pair? Had the pregnancy caught them off guard? Vomiting now meant it occurred over two weeks back.
Li Yuan glanced over his shoulder. "Don't tell the family yet."
Fu Qingxuan shot him a fierce look. "Do you take me for a fool?"
At that moment, the family awaited Li Yuan and Shen Xi for dinner in the dining hall. Fu Qingxuan had slipped away unnoticed.
He knew when to be discreet in tough spots. No need to cause a fuss on such an important day unless it was grave. Mom, Dad, and everyone would fret terribly learning Xixi felt unwell.
"What happened?" Shangguan Yanqiu approached anxiously upon seeing Shen Xi carried out looking ashen.
"She had a bit to drink, so we're taking her to the hospital." Fu Qingxuan replied.
"Can't you check her?" Shangguan Yanqiu shoved Fu Qingxuan aside. Gazing at her daughter, she said, "I told you not to drink so much. Do you feel sick? Do you want Uncle Li to bring you some hangover tonic?"
Two top doctors were right there at home. Why rush to the hospital? Instinct warned Shangguan Yanqiu it was more serious.
"We'll be right back." Shen Xi then clamped her hand over her mouth to gag.
Her retching drew all eyes in the living room. The mothers present suspected the truth.
Yun Jinping instructed Li Yuan, "Put her down. Don't jostle her or she'll get worse. Go fetch some tea. Quick."
It wasn't excess drinking—Xixi was pregnant!
Li Yuan obediently lowered her.
Ruan Sisi snatched a bin for Shen Xi's use. Grinning widely, she exclaimed, "Xixi, you must be pregnant."
Shen Xi focused on vomiting, ignoring her completely.
"We're going to the hospital for a check-up." Fu Qingxuan wouldn't confess his poor pulse-reading skills.
"Hold off for now. Wait at least until she feels better before you go." Shangguan Yanqiu crouched down and gently rubbed Shen Xi's back.
Yun Jinping brought over the tea and helped Shen Xi rinse her mouth once the vomiting stopped.
After shaking away the queasiness, Shen Xi glanced at her family gathered around her. "Don't worry. I'm fine."
Yun Jinping couldn't bring herself to scold the girl. What did Xixi understand? She was okay? Hardly. What if she was expecting? She'd consumed plenty of alcohol today.
Song Wenye and Shen Tang shared a silent glance. Xixi and Toffeecito's Dad got busy every night…
That baby was dead set on arriving into the world.
Accompanied by Yun Jinping and Shangguan Yanqiu, Li Yuan and Shen Xi headed to a nearby hospital. The others stayed behind at home for the results. A bigger crowd would just create chaos.
Shen Xi was pregnant.
She clutched the lab report.
Yun Jinping and Shangguan Yanqiu gazed anxiously at the doctor. "Is the baby healthy and alright?"
The doctor gestured to the monitor, displaying it for them. "Relax. The baby's perfectly healthy. The heartbeat sounds robust."
Relief flooded Shen Xi and Li Yuan, who tightly gripped each other's hands.
Sensing the perspiration on his palms, Shen Xi beamed at Li Yuan and murmured happily, "We're all good, Brother."
Li Yuan clasped her hand firmly while his heart pounded erratically. Nodding at her amid the fading terror, he whispered, "Thank heavens."
Not fully reassured yet, the two mothers probed the doctor in detail until they felt at ease. They turned to the couple and bit back their words.
The pregnancy struck like lightning from a clear sky. Lacking any prior know-how, the inexperienced pair couldn't be faulted for missing it. Even Yun Jinping and Shangguan Yanqiu, seasoned mothers, hadn't entertained the thought.
Shen Xi carried the pregnancy all the way to term.
In the midst of the first snowfall.
Shen Xi safely delivered twins—a boy as the elder brother and a girl as the younger sister.
