A few moments later...
As Amelia requested, Mithron brought a secured communication orb that linked directly to the Capital City of Amaharpe. Unlike standard communication orbs, its mana signature could only be shared with one other communication orb.
To put it simply, it was the same as if only two people could interact with one another without anyone else being able to find out.
The communication orb lit up as Amelia held it in her hands and a man’s voice sounded from the other side.
"Hahaha! Mithron, my old friend, it’s been a while since you’ve last contacted me! Hey, don’t think I’ve forgotten about the gold coins you owe me from that drinking game a few years back-" The voice from the communication orb started.
"It is good to see that you are in such good health, Count Leonaro. Based on your behavior, I assume the investigation is going quite well on your end." Amelia said with a smile; however, there was a certain sharpness hidden behind it.
The voice from the orb cleared their throat rapidly. It was clear that they had been caught completely off guard.
"T-This voice... Young miss?" Leonaro said with a hint of shock in his voice.
...
A few moments passed as Amelia caught Leonaro up to speed on the events that unfolded within Danaharpe, as well as her secret mission.
"Young m- No, Young Head, you’ve been through a lot. Those damned bastards from the League of the Eidolon...! How dare they target the Young Head! To think there would even be people who would collude with them and the shadahi to try the Mortal Realm—we must eradicate them from their core!" Leonaro said, not holding back his anger.
"Naturally, those who have betrayed their own kind will not face a good end. I will make sure of that. But, before that happens, there is something more important that I need you to confirm." Amelia stated.
Leonaro managed to calm himself down some as he responded, "Just say the word and I, Leonaro Varion, will carry out your orders without fail."
"I knew I could depend on you. The first thing I need you to do is confirm the ages and the health statuses of those who took Phantom Core before they got their hands on that vile substance. Also, even though it is a long shot, look thoroughly into the places each of them visited before falling unconscious. This is a top priority request, so get it done as soon as possible." Amelia requested.
"Understood. Once I’ve finished collecting and organizing the information, I’ll send it through the usual secure channel. Since it’s a top priority request, I will spare no resources and manpower. It will be to you within the hour." Leonaro said confidently.
"Then, I leave it in your capable hands. I hope the results are promising." Amelia replied.
After a brief exchange of farewells, the light from the communication orb faded.
The moment it did so, the communication orb slipped from Amelia’s hands as she let out a series of uncontrollable coughs.
"Young miss...!" Mithron said as started to quickly rushed to her side; however, he halted as Amelia lifted her hand.
"I-I’m fine. Just a few light coughs." Amelia said as her coughs subsided.
"The amount of life energy stored in your body is immense. Although there’s nothing wrong with your health, it’s still too early to push yourself after having been unconscious for so long. For now, you should focus on absorbing the lingering life energy in your body." Izroth commented.
"I would also like to rest. Unfortunately, there is still too much to be done. I cannot remain still while others are working hard." Amelia said with furrowed brows.
"Aye, this brat! If you’re told to rest by your doctor, then rest! Just a few small matters and you’re this worried? Hmph, as long as this old man waves his hand once or twice, it can be resolved." Old Shan scoffed in an annoyed manner.
"Old man, you..." Mithron began.
"What? It has just been a while since I’ve been able to stretch these old bones of mine." Old Shan said dismissively.
Mithron resigned himself as he gave a helpless smile.
"If the old man is making a move personally, he must be really upset. Well, it’s not surprising since the shadahi are a part of this." Mithron thought to himself.
Suddenly, Izroth, Mithron and Old Shan’s gazes all shifted toward the room’s door.
"It looks like a little rat has snuck in." Old Shan commented.
"Who dares sneak around my Kroma Family Estate?! Reveal yourself!" Mithron roared as his aura exploded forth.
"Wait, they are with me." Izroth stated as he stepped forward.
Mithron frowned and said, "Supreme Elder Izroth, what is the meaning of this? Even if this person is with you, sneaking into the Kroma Family Estate is a bit..."
"Isn’t it a good thing to test the defenses of your estate every once in a while?" Izroth responded in a carefree manner.
"This..." Mithron released a small sigh as he retracted his aura.
A few moments later, a shadow by the door morphed into a humanoid form before a familiar figure revealed themselves.
"I have returned." Yi Ying said as she kneeled in front of Izroth.
Yi Ying was the Phantom of Harmony that belonged to Azalea and left by Izroth’s side. She was a perfect copy of Azalea in nearly every way. Thanks to this, Izroth was able to rest easy as he sent Yi Ying to investigate the events going on under the surface of Danaharpe.
"This is one of my subordinates, Yi Ying. I sent her to keep an eye on the movements of the Duvelle family and collect any evidence in the process." Izroth stated.
He then continued, "If you sought me out like this, then I assume you must have found something worthwhile."
Yi Ying was not the reckless type. She should have known the potential consequences of sneaking into the Kroma Family Estate. However, if she were willing to ignore that and still seek Izroth out, it must have meant that the information she possessed was not only important, but time sensitive.
"Reporting—as instructed, I was keeping on eye on the Duvelle family and gathering evidence when I happened to come across this." Yi Ying said as she removed a small circular item from a pouch at her side.
Yi Ying lightly tapped the surface of the item. As she did so, an image was projected that showed three individuals gathered in what appeared to be some underground structure.
Izroth immediately recognized two of the individuals. One was Pierce Duvelle and the other was the Head of the Duvelle family, Shateur Duvelle. As for the third individual, their appearance was blocked by some kind of dark smoke.
However, it was not the three individuals that caught Izroth’s attention as his gaze was locked onto one thing in particular—a small black rift no wider than the width of one’s finger.
When Izroth saw that rift, it all finally started to add up.
