KNOCK KNOCK

The pervasive quietude of the grand palace was interrupted by a soft rapping sound, the individual performing the action appeared visibly anxious.

With a gulp, he swiped the perspiration from his brow and dropped to his knees, pressing his forehead to the polished floor as he awaited a response from within.

"What is it?" A voice, melodious yet devoid of warmth, emanated from the interior, carrying an imposing pressure.

"Y- Your father has requested your presence in the Cloud Hall." The subordinate stammered, his voice trembling, conveying the impression of having aged by centuries in mere moments.

"..." A heavy silence ensued before the voice spoke again.

"Is he here once more?" she inquired, a distinct undertone of vexation and ire palpable, further heightening the man's apprehension.

His heart hammered against his ribs with ferocious intensity; despite his status as a level 10 Demigod, he was consumed by dread.

He found himself utterly unsure how to respond, knowing a misstep could prove catastrophic.

"...Y- Yes, he has arrived." Mustering his absolute courage, the man finally answered.

Tsk!

Another prolonged silence followed, after which she commanded, "Get lost!"

"Y- Yes, at once..." Scrambling to his feet, he fled with haste, yet with caution, ensuring not a whisper escaped him.

Inside, Evelyn, who had been engrossed in the intricate crafting of an unusual ring, felt a surge of irritation.

She was meticulously fashioning this unique gift for her beloved husband, and her father had chosen this precise moment to intrude?

Truly, insufferably annoying; her animosity extended to all of them.

'If only I could eliminate them all and reside with my husband.' A look of unsettling obsession flickered in Evelyn's eyes as her thoughts turned to her man.

However, she subsequently set the ring aside with a sigh, realizing she could not depart yet, nor could she be with him.

That time was yet to come.

Drawing a deep breath, she resolved to ascertain her father's latest decree.

Her gaze swept across her chamber, remarkably spacious, its walls adorned with myriad depictions of Vritra she had personally created.

She even possessed numerous articles of his clothing.

The Sin Wheel, wielded by Vritra, did not function merely to bestow items; rather, it operated on a principle of exchange. Consequently, whenever Vritra acquired something, an equivalent personal item of his would vanish.

He had accumulated a vast quantity of apparel and possessions, rendering him oblivious to such minor disappearances.

Moreover, these were predominantly garments he had previously worn, and Vritra generally displayed little concern for such matters.

Nevertheless, all these now graced her chamber; the winter coat he had worn on the desolate apocalyptic planet was draped across her bed, its familiar scent still faintly present.

After a brief survey of her surroundings, she exited the room, her demeanor undergoing a complete transformation.

An impenetrable darkness enveloped her abode; she wished to prevent any unauthorized entry or disturbance of her belongings.

Therefore, she had sequestered it within a distinct dimension.

Upon exiting her chamber, she departed the secluded realm and emerged into the external world. Gazing upward, the celestial expanse greeted her, a canvas strewn with countless stars.

These constellations, she knew, represented deities who had entered an eternal slumber; as these entities were beyond the possibility of true death, they were consigned to perpetual rest.

A select few had been placed in this state by Evelyn herself.

An ancient adage, often invoked by the elder beings when contemplating the heavens, resonated among them.

-When the night is clear, the humblest slaves shine the brightest-

The words echoed in Evelyn's memory; she understood the necessity of laying further groundwork to ensure Vritra's continued progression towards godhood.

The endeavor would undoubtedly be arduous, yet she pledged to remain by his side throughout the entire journey; once he fully manifested as a Titan, not even the supreme beings, nor those beyond them, could pose a threat.

Lost in contemplation of her beloved, her gaze shifted towards the Cloud Hall, a mere ostentatious council chamber belonging to her father.

'I wonder if Grandfather will also be present,' she mused, her expression inscrutable.

In the vicinity, every guard instinctively lowered their heads as Evelyn made her appearance; her breathtaking beauty had once driven a Demigod to madness.

The brutal demise he suffered at the hands of her father and grandfather was a memory that still sent shivers down their spines.

His remains had been callously fed to the pet dogs in plain sight, following an extended period of excruciating torture.

Evelyn paid them no mind, disinclined to squander precious time, and instantly teleported to the entrance of the Cloud Hall.

She paused just outside its imposing gates, discerning the number of individuals within.

Her father was present, and mercifully, her grandfather was not there for the moment; aside from her father, only one other being occupied the hall.

The mere presence of this individual caused her brow to furrow.

Inscribed prominently above the Cloud Hall's entrance, a name was etched in bold lettering.

'Vaspera...' Evelyn longed to replace it swiftly with Arclis, yet the process, despite all efforts, was proving interminably slow.

With a resigned sigh, she pushed the gate open; it stood unguarded, a testament to her father's aversion to unnecessary personnel in his immediate vicinity.

Evelyn proceeded inside, her gaze immediately meeting her father's, to whom she offered a slight inclination of her head.

Her father bore the title: Fader; an immense duration had elapsed since anyone had last witnessed his true visage.

His entire being was perpetually shrouded in layers of cloth, leaving not an inch of his skin exposed, and he maintained a strict distance from all individuals.

Only his pupils were visible, contrasting with a physique that was both muscular and robust.

He reclined partially on his throne, his gaze, shaped like a crescent moon, intently fixed upon his daughter.

"Ah, my dear daughter has arrived. See who has come to meet you – your betrothed," Fader announced, his demeanor usually affable.

However, his temperament turned volatile when anyone dared to approach, or transgressed regulations. After all, it fell upon the Vespera family to enforce the laws among the celestial beings.

As one of the most formidable families, she herself held a position as a judge in the global tribunal.

"Hmm," Evelyn responded, her beautiful countenance unchanging as she acknowledged him.

The entirety of the Cloud Hall appeared to be constructed solely from clouds; the seating, the flooring, yet there was no discernible ceiling, allowing the stars to be viewed with perfect clarity.

Her attention finally drifted to the man seated to her left, cloaked in a black robe, which he seemed to believe appealed to her.

And there was a deliberate reason behind this assumption.

While Evelyn was absent, this aspiring fiancé had previously bribed one of the Demi Gods, a cleaner, to surreptitiously enter her chambers.

Despite her apprehension, she succumbed to avarice, hastily entering and managing to retrieve only a single robe that had belonged to Vritra.

Ever since that incident, he had taken to wearing garments similar to that, hoping to impress her.

This individual was Armin Garissa, the designated heir to the renowned Garissa family, who operated in the shadows of the higher realms, akin to an underworld syndicate.

If the Vespera family governed the laws and their enforcement, the Garissa family held sway over the unlawful activities.

Nevertheless, both families were undeniably among the absolute elite.

This very fact was why Fader and Evelyn's grandfather had sanctioned this union; securing Evelyn's marriage to this man would effectively grant them dominion over the higher beings.

Naturally, Evelyn harbored no desire for this arrangement. Unfortunately, despite her exceptional capabilities in nearly every aspect, her family placed minimal value on her objections.

They proceeded nonetheless, bestowing upon him the title of Evelyn's fiancé.

Armin appeared to be a man in his thirties, exuding maturity and an easygoing charm, possessing handsome features and long, white hair.

He too was remarkably capable and was slated to succeed his elder brother as the next patriarch; he seemed utterly devoid of any discernible flaws.

"Greetings, Evelyn. You look absolutely stunning," Armin complimented, taking a step forward and presenting a gift he had brought.

It was an arrangement of white flowers, continuously emitting a delightful fragrance.

"These are Forever White Sangas. A bloom that never fades, eternally beautiful and fragrant, just like you, haha. And the white hue serves as a reminder of me. Do you find them pleasing?"

Armin inquired, a broad, excessively enthusiastic smile gracing his features.

"Yes, very much. Please remember to discard them in the nearest dustbin on your way out," Evelyn replied, taking two steps back.

It was as if both Armin and his floral offering were afflicted with a contagious plague; her eyes blazed with animosity as she regarded him.

"Hahaha, do not be so reserved, my daughter. Armin, pay her no mind.

You understand, she becomes bashful in your presence. Kindly leave the flowers here; I am certain she will wish to display them in her room shortly," Fader chuckled, his azure eyes gleaming.

"I certainly hope she is merely feeling shy. I would not want this exquisite flower to be damaged, would I?" Armin remarked, a hint of psychosis flashing momentarily in his gaze.

Yet, the expression vanished as swiftly as it had appeared, replaced by his usual smiling facade.

"My daughter, now that your betrothed has arrived, why not treat him to some delectable fare?

Your grandfather has gone to confer with his grandfather, should you be wondering," Fader added, after which he stood and vanished.

"So, Evelyn, my dear fiancée, shall we depart?" Armin chuckled, acutely aware of the loathing in her eyes, an emotion that only fueled his desire to subjugate her further.

'Sigh, my beloved, hurry to my side. I desire your protection, much as you offer it to your other consorts, and I wish for you to deal with this brute,' Evelyn thought, her gaze appearing distant.

It was reminiscent of how Vritra had punished Jack and absconded with Fiona.

Shaking her head, she commenced her exit, realizing she was compelled to escort this insufferable man to his designated feeding ground.

Following that, she would resume her work on the ring.
