A large group of men flees with many captured children, much to the Holy Maiden Sect Master's fury. Unable to pursue them herself due to maintaining a powerful array, she dispatches her disciples. However, she quickly reconsiders, ordering the disciples to secure the remaining men and bring in crucial resources instead of chasing the escapees.

She spun around with excitement, fully accepting the mission to guard the remaining men and then transport provisions into the forest. However, upon stepping outside and witnessing the bare horse carriages, she was utterly stunned.

...

"Where is the food? Where is the water?"

Several other female disciples stood dumbfounded as well. After stamping their feet in exasperation, they hurried off to examine the supplies on each carriage.

They were unaware until they actually checked, but once they did, they discovered that the horse carriages, which had been abundantly filled with supplies, were now completely empty.

"This one is barren."

"This one is empty too."

"They are all empty; there's nothing remaining!"

The female disciples began to panic. Without provisions, how would they sustain themselves with food and drink? Water wasn't an immediate crisis, as sources could still be found within the forest for the time being.

But what about nourishment? Were they expected to chew on tree bark?

"How could this happen? How could this possibly happen?"

The lead female disciple whispered to herself, realizing that what she had assumed to be a simple task was, in fact, a perilous mission capable of costing lives.

If the Sect Master learned that all the provisions were gone, leaving only vacant carriages, his wrath would surely be directed at her.

"Who was in charge of guarding the carriages? Step forward, all of you!"

She yelled at all the female disciples, desperately plotting in her mind to find some scapegoats. Otherwise, she feared her own demise was inevitable. Regardless, the female disciples tasked with watching the supplies had already committed a grave error and likely wouldn't escape severe consequences.

Yet, as she schemed to identify individuals to blame, the other female disciples were lost and bewildered.

"Not I, I was assigned watching over that section."

"Nor I, my duty was solely to those few men."

"The Elder instructed us to attend to the injured Senior and Junior Sisters; there were no orders concerning the carriage supplies."

Within moments, every female disciple shook their heads. They had been responsible only for monitoring the men and caring for the Senior and Junior Sisters who were initially watching the children and had been injured by the escaped men. They had paid no attention to the carriages at all.

In truth, their vigilance over the men wasn't absolute either; each was occupied with their own thoughts, contemplating when those individuals would be apprehended and returned.

If they could not be caught, how would their journey to the Merciful Continent proceed?

"You all, you all..."

Upon hearing their explanations, the lead female disciple was so incensed by the lack of anyone accountable for the carriages that she struggled to articulate her words.

So, truly, no one had been watching the carriages, leading to the loss of all supplies? That couldn't be right. Even after the men had escaped, shouldn't some supplies have remained in the carriages?

But now, why was nothing left? Why were they all completely empty?

"Junior Sister Little Yi, lead some disciples to take a headcount," she commanded the junior sister standing beside her.

A sense of unease washed over her. If she couldn't uncover the truth behind this mystery, she was certain to face dire consequences; she had to get to the bottom of it.

"Yes, Senior Sister."

Junior Sister Little Yi acknowledged the order and guided a few other junior sisters toward the group of men.

After an hour had passed, she returned with the junior sisters, but her expression was grim.

"Senior Sister, the numbers do not align. It appears another significant group has managed to escape."

The Senior Sister's breath hitched at this news.

More individuals had fled? Thus, unnoticed, another large contingent had broken free and absconded with all their provisions!

"Insolence!"

She stomped her foot in fury, leaving a deep imprint in the sandy earth.
