The Saintess Sect elders are in a standoff, with their enemies holding children hostage and threatening to outlast them due to a lack of supplies. The children, aware of their value, declare they will die before being used, enraging the elders. Faced with this stalemate and their own dwindling resources, one elder suggests fetching reinforcements and supplies while the other stays behind.

With only two Elders present, the remaining Disciples were essentially useless.

"Let the Disciples handle the task of gathering food and water," the younger Elder suggested, casting a glance at the Disciples nearby.

Understanding the instruction, a Disciple immediately stepped forward, accompanied by a few others.

"As the senior sister, I am willing to lead the junior sisters in collecting provisions," she stated, feeling it was her duty, though there were no other options available.

Yet, she privately mused that this time spent dealing with food alongside the opposing group was a futile endeavor, fraught with too many unpredictable variables.

They couldn't forget that many of the captured children belonged to powerful Noble Clans. Should those clans seek retribution, escape would be impossible!

Her earnest hope was for the Sect Master to swiftly open the passage to the Merciful Continent.

However, she was acutely aware that without these children, the Sect Master lacked the means to open the passage, creating a difficult impasse.

...

Within the confines of the Little Forest, the Holy Maiden Sect Master stood before a magnificent array, channeling her Original Soul energy to sustain it.

Upon receiving the urgent reports from her Disciples that the men they had gathered had absconded with most of the children, her fury ignited.

She yearned to personally pursue them, to apprehend the audacious men who had fled, and to obliterate them with the power of the array.

Nevertheless, she found herself immobilized, incapable of departing even an inch from her current position. She could only continue to pour her Original Soul energy into the array, unable to even express her frustration through stomping her feet.

"What are you all doing? With so many of you, you couldn't even keep watch over a few despicable, lowly men?!" she thundered.

The female Disciple lowered her head, refraining from uttering a single word.

She secretly wished to explain that she had not been present with those men; she had arrived with the initial contingent led by the Sect Master herself. However, voicing this truth would surely spell her doom.

Furthermore, the situation involved far more than just a 'few' men.

According to intelligence from the outside, a substantial group, numbering at least a thousand individuals, had fled.

And they had taken a considerable number of children with them.

"Why are you standing there? Go and pursue them with the other Disciples!" The Sect Master's anger escalated as she observed the female Disciple remaining stationary like a blockhead, her head still bowed.

"Yes, I will depart immediately."

The female Disciple, eager to escape the Sect Master's incessant scolding, welcomed any reason to leave.

As if on cue, the Sect Master's command provided the perfect pretext.

However, no sooner had she turned, preparing to take a single step, than her own Sect Master summoned her back.

"Wait, return here to me."

The Holy Maiden Sect Master, having regained a semblance of composure, called the female Disciple back.

It was presumed that the Elders had already initiated the pursuit, rendering the involvement of Disciples with lesser cultivation levels unnecessary. The paramount concern at present was ensuring that the remaining men could not escape.

"Go outside and make certain that none of the men who did not escape manage to leave. Not a single one is to be permitted to go free. And the second batch of resources, bring it all into the forest."

Even if they managed to recapture all the fugitives, a significant duration, estimated at six to seven days, would be required for their stay here.

The initial batch of resources was clearly insufficient. In the days ahead, reliance would be placed on the second delivery, making both the resources and the children equally vital and indispensable.

"Yes, Sect Master."

The female Disciple let out a profound sigh of relief.

The prospect of not having to chase after escaping individuals and avoiding the continuous verbal barrage from the Sect Master was a welcome reprieve.
