The evil dragon, still too weak to confront the humans, relocates to another lake in the Cloud-Touching Forest after Qian Jiyun's group searches several others. Bai Yan leads them to Cloud Berth, the vastest lake, where they set up camp for the night and prepare by tidying the area and gathering supplies. An Jiuyue confirms to Qian Jiyun that her Paper Person detected the dragon disguised as a small snake in a prior lake.

A small snake has appeared! Once they snag it, they can head directly to that lake.

"Which lake are we talking about?" Qian Jiyun questioned.

"It's the fourth one we've checked out, not particularly large," An Jiuyue responded.

"Should we hurry there? He's likely just gotten comfortable by the lake now—if we charge over right this instant..."

"No."

Before An Jiuyue could finish her words, Qian Jiyun shot down the idea.

"He's only just arrived at the lake, when his guard is up the highest. If we act now, he'll probably shift locations at once or duck into a waterless spot to conceal himself for a bit."

This Cloud-Touching Forest serves as the Evil Dragon's domain. How many years has he ruled it? Long enough for generations of demonic beasts to come and go.

The Evil Dragon knows every corner of this area intimately; securing a hideaway would be effortless for him.

Besides, if the Evil Dragon turns it into a pursuit game—him concealing himself while they search—can they truly surpass the Evil Dragon, who has mapped out the entire Cloud-Touching Forest?

"Let's patrol nearby lakes over the next few days, then later check with Bai Yan on the lake nearest the Evil Dragon's position."

He proposed.

"Yes, that sounds good."

An Jiuyue nodded, fully endorsing the man's strategy.

When facing an Evil Dragon capable of changing its size, caution is key. Should he vanish for real, locating him amid the Cloud-Touching Forest would be a daunting task.

They sought to conserve time and avoid prolonging their stay in the Cloud-Touching Forest, just as City Lord Bai and Bai Yan had cautioned—who knew the number of Evil Dragons infesting this Beast Domain?

Although time was abundant for them, they refused to squander it excessively here.

"With no urgency, we can explore around for several days and take a solid rest tonight."

"What would you like for dinner today?" Qian Jiyun asked her.

At those words, An Jiuyue pulled ingredients from her space and gave them to him.

During past journeys, she hadn't fussed much, directing Jiyun here and there, but now the situation differed. Eating for two meant she required ample nutrition.

"Prepare some pork rib soup for me; I've really been craving it."

"Sure."

Qian Jiyun grabbed the ingredients and started cooking.

Soon enough, Bai Yan arrived carrying firewood, and the three men dove into their tasks.

Even though he'd seen it before, Bai Yan struggled to accept the scene. Observing Qian Jiyun, the inter-plane traveler, handle cooking with such mastery always seemed surreal.

Even Beastmen wouldn't cook meals and deliver them straight to their wives.

But Qian Jiyun was merely one step short of personally feeding An Jiuyue.

...

"City Lord, am I catching a whiff of something delicious?"

As the group trekked through the Cloud-Touching Forest, a guard with a sharp nose murmured softly.

He figured his sense of smell must be off; how else could he detect alluring food scents in the reeking Cloud-Touching Forest?

This was utterly inconceivable.

"You're hallucinating—must be famished enough to mix up demonic beast carcass stink with tasty aromas?" another guard cast a sideways glare and shot back grumpily.

Yet no sooner had those words left his mouth than another puff of fragrance wafted in from the distance, grazing right by his nostrils.
