“Nox.” Tears filled Shelly's eyes as she gazed at him.
The instant Nox stepped inside, hopelessness overwhelmed her. Actually, her heart throbbed with intense pain. Once she acknowledged her deep affection for Nox, her emotions erupted all at once. Her eyes brimmed with tears, and Nox's eyes turned red and misty too.
“Nox, don’t leave. Let’s get married!” Shelly blurted out suddenly.
Though she couldn't make out Nox's expression clearly, she sensed he was weeping just like her, right there before everyone's gazes.
“Say it again, Shelly,” he urged.
He feared he'd heard wrong, that none of this was happening for real.
“Nox, let’s get married,” Shelly repeated firmly.
The words had barely left her lips when Nox bolted back through the security checkpoint like a man possessed. Even the nearby security staff parted automatically for him.
As though Shelly was his entire universe, he charged toward her and swept her into a fierce embrace. The collision stung them both, yet they clung desperately, unwilling to part even for a moment.
“Nox,” Shelly murmured.
By now, Nox was openly sobbing.
“I’m sorry it took me so long to be brave enough to confess my feelings. I always believed that I had…” Shelly trailed off as tears streamed down her face.
After setting her phone aside the previous night, she'd intended to sleep. But closing her eyes only revealed her soaked pillow. The walls around her heart were finally collapsing one by one.
So it wasn't a lack of love—it was fear of loving him. She turned down Benjamin out of love for Nox, refused his help to avoid being swayed, and kept her distance to prevent falling for him. Yet fall she did.
Nox's letter, combined with everything he'd sacrificed for her, shattered her last barriers. Even if this choice proved a mistake, she'd embrace it fully. Thus, deep into the night, she phoned Mrs. Winter and revealed her bond with Nox.
Truthfully, Mrs. Winter held no grudge against Shelly. Her worry was simply that Shelly might never forgive Nox for his past wrongs, delaying her chance to hold a grandchild. With Shelly's confession verified repeatedly, Mrs. Winter embraced her wholeheartedly.
At 2 a.m., Mrs. Winter arrived to whisk Shelly away, escorting her to end the engagement with Nox's supposed fiancée. Generous compensation silenced the matter, paving the way for Shelly to become the true bride.
Nox was meant to fetch her from home that day, but he fled en route. Had he paid closer attention, he'd have noticed they were heading straight to Shelly's neighborhood.
While waiting at home, Shelly learned of Nox's escape since he ignored all calls. Desperate, she contacted Jeanne, certain Jeanne tracked his every step.
Sure enough, Jeanne revealed Nox had raced to the airport, hinting only Shelly could retrieve him. So she hiked up her trailing wedding gown and hurried there with Bella to track him down.
After an exhaustive search, she spotted him at the international terminal's security line. For a heartbeat, she feared they'd missed each other once more. Bella had shouted for him repeatedly, but Nox acted deaf, refusing to glance back. As he neared the gate, she cried out herself.
Clutching his clothing firmly, she declared, “Let’s go back to the wedding.”
Regaining some composure, Nox gently released Shelly. “Do you truly want to marry me?”
He still struggled to accept it. Hadn't she despised him utterly?
“Look at me.” Shelly indicated her wedding attire.
“But today I’m supposed to wed another woman. I just fled my own ceremony,” Nox pointed out.
Shelly couldn't suppress a chuckle. “No other woman exists. It's me.”
“What do you mean?” Nox asked.
