Upon hearing the request was a simple trip to the bus station, Chen Yang turned and agreed.
"Alright, I’ll take you to the bus station."
Had it been any other destination, Chen Yang would have declined.
He harbored a distinct feeling that the woman before him was not as harmless as she appeared, sensing a subtle, dangerous aura about her.
However, a short ride to the bus station was entirely manageable.
"Haha, truly a little brother who opens his eyes to gain," the woman chuckled charmingly.
Chen Yang averted his gaze, not focusing on her face.
She was a true siren, and though his self-control was strong, prolonged observation offered no benefit and could prove detrimental. Thus, Chen Yang deliberately avoided looking too closely.
"Wait here, I’ll be right back."
Having accepted the task, Chen Yang returned directly to the clinic without delay and retrieved his van.
He then allowed the woman to enter the vehicle and drove her to the county town.
"Little brother, was that your home we just passed? Could you tell me your name? If elder sister has some free time later, perhaps I could visit you for a chat, what do you say?" Despite her complexion being as pale as paper, the woman’s words were incredibly alluring, attempting to draw Chen Yang into conversation.
Chen Yang, however, remained wary of her, feeling no inclination towards her seemingly suggestive words.
"You’re overthinking things; we are not acquainted. My only reason for helping you was the Spirit Stone!" Chen Yang responded calmly.
"You acted for the Spirit Stone, but I did not. Elder sister repays kindness. You saved my life; is it really not possible for me to know your name?" the woman pressed.
Chen Yang offered no reply, continuing his drive in silence.
Approximately half an hour later, the van arrived at the county bus station.
"We've arrived."
Chen Yang brought the car to a halt and stated indifferently.
Hearing his words, the woman glanced outside, confirmed their location at the county bus station, and then took out her phone to place a call.
Within a few minutes, several sturdy men emerged and quickly surrounded the vehicle.
Among them, an older man, appearing to be in his late forties or fifties, showed a flicker of excitement upon seeing the woman, though he remained silent until she spoke.
"We can discuss that later. This young brother here saved my life. First, provide me with sixty Spirit Stones." The woman stated this directly.
Upon hearing her words, the man glanced at Chen Yang before promptly retrieving a pouch from his pocket, which contained Spirit Stones.
Chen Yang observed that the man’s pouch resembled a brocade bag, capable of holding a significant quantity of items.
He also inferred from the respectful demeanor of the men towards the woman that her status was considerably higher.
It was highly probable they were her subordinates or perhaps hired guards.
"Little brother, here are the Spirit Stones I promised you. Please check if the count is accurate." The woman’s expression shifted to a smile as she handed the Spirit Stones to Chen Yang.
Without hesitation, Chen Yang accepted the Spirit Stones and proceeded to count them.
He meticulously verified each one—sixty pieces in total, no discrepancies found.
"It is correct."
With the count confirmed, Chen Yang directly transferred the bag of Spirit Stones into his own brocade pouch.
The woman’s lips curved into a smile. "Little brother, since elder sister has arrived, I must disembark now. Are you still unwilling to tell me your name?"
"I have delivered you to your destination, and you have compensated me with the Spirit Stones, which covers my effort. There is no further obligation between us." Chen Yang replied coldly, unwilling to become further entangled with the mysterious woman.
"Haha, you believe we owe each other nothing, but elder sister disagrees. However, if you prefer not to say, it is acceptable. When we meet again, I will naturally learn it." The woman’s physical state was clearly weak, and seeing her people had arrived, she felt no need to prolong the conversation.
With that, she voluntarily exited the vehicle.
Then, shielded by the group of men, she departed without delay.
It appeared they had an important matter to attend to, explaining the urgency of her departure.
"Possessing such strong cultivation on her own, and with so many experts accompanying her, her identity is certainly not ordinary." Observing the direction in which the woman disappeared, Chen Yang narrowed his eyes slightly.
He dismissed further thoughts on the matter, reversed his van, and drove away.
From a distance, the woman, after leaving the bus station, entered a secluded residential area under the protection of the men.
Upon reaching the entrance of a small villa, the woman's complexion grew even more ashen.
Her body was so frail that she could barely remain standing, nearly collapsing on the villa’s steps.
"Sect Hierarch! You are far too weak and must return to the headquarters immediately."
One of the men supported her, his face etched with deep concern.
However, the woman shook her head. "I have not yet found the item I require; returning to the headquarters would offer little help. It is an old ailment, an unavoidable affliction."
"However, your unpredictable bouts of backlash are far too perilous," the man stated, his brow furrowed with concern.
"Indeed, Hierarch, you ought to return to headquarters. Entrust the search to us. Upon discovery, we shall deliver it without delay," others chimed in, echoing his sentiments.
Still, the woman remained resolute, "It is quite alright. I am intimately familiar with my own condition; merely assist me in resting."
Her words carried an undeniable weight of authority. The man, though harboring anxieties and wishing for her departure, dared not utter another word and carefully supported her into the villa.
...
Liuhe Village.
Following the escort of the woman, Chen Yang promptly made his way back to his clinic.
His initial intention was to deliver the Spirit Stones to Chen Tianmin without delay, yet he opted to return first to attend to the collection of herbs he had been gathering.
Recently, a novel recipe had come to his attention within the Medicine King Canon.
This recipe involved refining an Elixir of potent efficacy using rare herbs, igniting an eager desire within him to attempt its creation.
An entire afternoon was dedicated to preparations at his residence.
The task involved collecting and meticulously organizing the necessary herbs.
With all arrangements complete, he partook in dinner as night descended, intending to commence the Elixir refinement process.
However, just as he was about to begin, the insistent ringing of his phone cut through his plans.
The call was from Ma Jiantao, who informed him of the discovery of traces belonging to the Five Poisons Cult and requested Chen Yang's assistance.
After a moment's deliberation, Chen Yang readily agreed.
The Five Poisons Cult represented an utterly malevolent force, and its early eradication would undoubtedly benefit Liuhe Village immensely, effectively removing a festering tumor.
This action would also expedite the reopening of the scenic area, which had been suffering significant financial losses due to its prolonged inactivity.
"Very well, where are you currently? I shall be there at once," Chen Yang responded.
"Proceed to the county hospital. We have personnel who have been poisoned by the Five Poisons Cult and require your expertise," Ma Jiantao instructed.
"Someone has been poisoned?" Chen Yang expressed slight surprise, and without further time for inquiries, he hastily departed his home.
Accelerating his journey, he soon arrived at the county hospital.
"Chen Yang, you've arrived! Quickly examine the nature of their poisoning; the doctors are completely stumped," Ma Jiantao exclaimed upon spotting Chen Yang, immediately ushering him into a hospital room.
Within the room were three beds, each occupied by gravely poisoned secret agents. They lay there, their faces contorted in agony, teeth gritted as they endured the torment.
A multitude of medical personnel were present, yet none dared to approach for fear of the unknown affliction.
"Understood, allow me to assess the situation," Chen Yang stated calmly.
Without further discourse, Chen Yang immediately began his examination.
The condition of all three was indeed indicative of poisoning.
Though the methods of administration might have differed, the resulting symptoms pointed towards a single, consistent poison.
"These three encountered members of the Five Poisons Cult within the county today. Fearing their escape, they took a calculated risk, but they did not anticipate the cult members striking so swiftly and unexpectedly, incapacitating them with poison before they could even mount a defense," Ma Jiantao recounted the circumstances.
Chen Yang continued his examination while absorbing Ma Jiantao's explanation.
"It appears the Five Poisons Cult did not intend for them to perish."
Based on their current state, while the poison inflicted unbearable pain, it was not lethal.
"You suggest the poison is not fatal?" Ma Jiantao inquired urgently.
"Precisely. The poison induces extreme suffering but is not meant to kill. Had the cult harbored lethal intentions, these individuals would not have survived this long," Chen Yang affirmed, nodding as he produced three Elixirs from his pocket. He then instructed, "Administer these three Elixirs to them; they will serve to neutralize the poison."
"Understood." Ma Jiantao promptly followed the instructions, ensuring each of the afflicted agents ingested an Elixir.
Mere moments after consumption, within minutes, the three individuals visibly stabilized, their pained expressions gradually subsiding.
It was evident that the medicine had taken effect, bringing swift relief from their suffering.
"Within the span of a single night, the toxins will be entirely purged, and they should be fully recovered by tomorrow," Chen Yang declared with certainty.
"Excellent."
Ma Jiantao nodded, a palpable sense of relief washing over him. The medical personnel in the room, witnessing the swift resolution and absence of further distress, began to depart one by one.
