Dr. Wang's failed treatment of patients is revealed, causing him to angrily dismiss Chen Yang. The mayor intervenes, allowing Chen Yang to take over. Chen Yang first orders the patients to induce vomiting to expel residual medication, then has the site cleaned. After a period of waiting for the patients to stabilize, Chen Yang administers his own prescription, which proves effective and demonstrates a clear superiority over Dr. Wang's methods, leaving Dr. Wang embarrassed.
"You claim our Chen Yang’s medical skills are those of a quack, so doesn’t that imply you so-called overseas returnees are even worse than quacks?" Wu Kexin retorted. Dr. Wang was rendered speechless, utterly embarrassed, wishing he could vanish into thin air. "Fine, well done. Since you’re all so competent, there’s no need for me to make this trip and invite trouble. I’ll be leaving." Dr. Wang forcibly redirected the conversation, uttered a few harsh words to save face, and promptly retreated with the other physicians. Though his integrity and abilities were lacking, he possessed a degree of cunning. Recognizing that any further presence would only lead to humiliation, he made a hasty exit. "Mayor, this..." Observing Dr. Wang’s swift departure, the local doctors felt obliged to politely attempt a retention, considering his status as an envoy from higher authorities. However, the mayor simply waved them off. "Let such people go if they wish; it saves us further vexation. They presume that a couple of years of study has elevated them beyond measure," the mayor stated with a hint of disdain. The town doctors offered smiles in response and remained silent, each returning to their tasks and continuing the treatment of the patients. With the issue resolved, Chen Yang and the mayor stepped outside. Chen Yang having been of great assistance to the mayor, the latter naturally extended his sincere gratitude once they were in private, engaging in polite conversation. "Mayor, there's no need for such formality with us. Besides, we are neighbors; helping out is simply the right thing to do," Chen Yang said, waving a hand dismissively, not dwelling on the recent events. A smile bloomed on the mayor’s face upon witnessing this gesture. "Very well, Mayor. From this point forward, diligently follow the treatment method I've outlined for the patients. Should the medication run low, you can procure more from the pharmaceutical factory in our village," Chen Yang instructed. "Understood. I will adhere strictly to the method you’ve provided. I no longer place any faith in those provincial doctors," the mayor affirmed with a smile. Chen Yang offered a wordless smile, exchanged a few more brief pleasantries, and then departed the residence alone, heading towards the village office. As the origin of the problem had not yet been fully ascertained, the secret agency continued to utilize the Linghe Village office as a temporary base of operations. Chen Yang proceeded to the village office and sought out Ma Jiantao to gather intelligence regarding the Five Poisons Cult. From their discussion the previous day, the Five Poisons Cult appeared to be an exceptionally depraved organization that derived gratification from disseminating plagues. Since their incursions into their town, Chen Yang naturally felt a significant sense of concern. After all, Liuhe Village was not far from their current location, and any incident could potentially escalate into serious trouble. "It's peculiar; typically, after the Five Poisons Cult unleashes a plague in one locale, it tends to spread to surrounding areas. However, this time, they seem to have altered their usual pattern and have not afflicted other regions," Ma Jiantao elaborated on the previous night's events. During the night, they had meticulously stationed personnel in the villages adjacent to Linghe Village, concentrating their surveillance efforts on the vicinity. Yet, their endeavors yielded no discoveries whatsoever. "Perhaps this Five Poisons Cult caught wind of your presence and decided to withdraw prematurely," Chen Yang posited. "Hmm, that is indeed a plausible explanation," Ma Jiantao conceded. "So, what are your plans moving forward?" Chen Yang inquired about the subsequent course of action. "Let's observe for a few more days. If there is no further activity in the coming days, I will assume the matter is concluded and withdraw my team," Ma Jiantao responded after careful consideration. "Understood." Chen Yang nodded, and after conversing with Ma Jiantao for a short while longer, he departed Linghe Village and returned home alone. With the scenic area now cordoned off, the village had become considerably more tranquil. Aside from the local inhabitants, there were hardly any tourists, giving the impression of a return to its days as a quaint, rural settlement. "Hey, Yang Zi, didn't you head to Linghe Village with the village head early this morning? How come you're back already?" Chen Yang encountered Wang Hong as he strolled down the village path. "Just returned from Linghe Village," Chen Yang replied with a smile, his gaze involuntarily drifting towards Wang Hong’s curvaceous physique. As the village’s conditions improved, Wang Hong’s allure seemed to intensify, almost matching Yang Caiyun’s captivating charm. Whether by design or by chance, as she drew nearer, Wang Hong fanned herself with one hand, sending gentle waves of fragrance mingled with warmth in Chen Yang’s direction. "So you're back. How did things turn out over there? Have they stabilized? These diseases are quite frightening; I've heard many people have perished, is that true?" Wang Hong asked, her curiosity palpable. "The situation is reasonably stable for the time being, and the reports about fatalities are untrue. No deaths have occurred thus far," Chen Yang provided a concise update.Initially, Wang Hong’s face displayed a mix of worry and apprehension when the topic of Linghe Village arose. However, hearing that no fatalities had occurred and the situation was contained, she appeared to exhale a breath of relief. "That is indeed fortunate. Our two villages are merely separated by a ten-mile distance. Should matters have escalated unfavorably there, our own village would likely face complications as well," Wang Hong commented. "Precisely. While the situation is currently managed, Aunt Wang, it would still be prudent to disseminate this information throughout our village. Let everyone be reminded to exercise caution and refrain from interacting with any unknown items. In these circumstances, it is always best to err on the side of safety." Wang Hong, being the village's most avid disseminator of news, would ensure the entire village was informed within a matter of hours, proving more effective than any other method. "Hehe, your assessment is accurate. As it happens, I am just about to head towards the village entrance. I shall gladly spread the word," Wang Hong chuckled, readily accepting the task. Chen Yang gave a confirming nod before bidding her farewell and departing.
