Chen Yang confronts Dr. Wang, an arrogant foreign-educated doctor whose aggressive treatment plan for a widespread epidemic Chen Yang believes is harmful. Despite Dr. Wang's dismissiveness and the mayor's intervention, Chen Yang insists his own approach is better and warns that Dr. Wang's methods will lead to severe consequences for the patients if not reversed immediately.

Dr. Wang observed Chen Yang through his tinted glasses, utterly oblivious to anything Chen Yang was saying.

Even if Chen Yang's words held great reason, he dismissed them outright without a second thought.

"Are you finished speaking?" Dr. Wang inquired coldly.

"Yes, I am finished."

"If you are done, kindly depart. I truly have no leisure time to observe a frog-in-a-well, a petty clown like yourself, performing a spectacle. Do not impede my work." Dr. Wang gestured towards the door, his voice rising in volume.

"Dr. Wang!"

Witnessing the man's intention to eject people, the town chief could no longer remain passive and wished to intercede. However, Dr. Wang was displaying an overbearing dominance this time.

He showed no inclination to grant the town chief even a shred of respect.

"Town Chief! The provincial authorities dispatched me here to fully oversee the treatment. I possess the authority to dismiss anyone who interferes with the treatment!" Dr. Wang declared loudly.

"You..." The town chief was rendered speechless; the other party indeed held such authority.

"What Chen Yang stated is not entirely without merit. With you being so rigid, if something were to transpire..." The town chief attempted to articulate further, but the self-important Dr. Wang granted him no opportunity whatsoever!

"There will be no 'if'! And even if there is, I shall bear the responsibility! I pursued my studies abroad for five years and have been practicing at a premier provincial hospital for over a year. Are you suggesting my medical skills cannot rival his?" Dr. Wang asserted forcefully.

"You..."

The town chief was utterly at a loss for words, completely unsure how to respond.

"You, right now, immediately, get out of here, or I shall summon security." Dr. Wang fixed his glare upon Chen Yang.

"Heh." Chen Yang could not suppress a cold, derisive laugh. This overseas returnee was truly full of arrogance.

But what recourse did he have? This place fell under the fellow's command; even if he desired to render assistance, he was powerless.

He could only pity those patients in critical condition.

"You will end up begging me."

Chen Yang shook his head with a smile, turned, and exited the premises.

Wu Kexin cast a look brimming with disdain at Dr. Wang before following Chen Yang out.

"Hmph, who does he think he is, pointing fingers at our Dr. Wang? That's absolutely laughable."

"Precisely, a jumping clown, a frog at the bottom of a well, an utterly ignorant fool."

The physicians from the provincial capital, witnessing Chen Yang's departure, commenced making disparaging remarks behind his back.

Dr. Wang also emitted a cold snort. "Since we are already aware he is a frog in a well and an ignorant fool, what is there to discuss? Cease wasting time. Continue the treatment with the medication. We must stabilize the situation by tonight."

"Yes, Dr. Wang."

...

Immediately after Chen Yang's exit, Dr. Wang resumed the administration of the drugs.

The town chief continued to harbor a sense of unease, but matters had reached this juncture; he had no alternative and could only observe Dr. Wang and his team as they tended to the patients.

Pft!!

Abruptly, the first patient in critical condition, who had received the medication, expelled a mouthful of fresh blood, rolling precariously off the bed.

"Ugh, I feel terrible, I..."

The critical patient emitted a pained cry before immediately losing consciousness.

"Ah, what is happening? Dr. Wang, hurry and examine this!"

The nearest doctor, startled, let out a shriek.

Dr. Wang, who had been instructing the other physicians in treating patients, rushed over immediately upon hearing the commotion.

Observing the patient's agonized expression and the blood he had vomited, Dr. Wang himself was taken aback.

He had not anticipated such an event unfolding so suddenly.

"Quickly, ascertain the patient's condition and identify the cause." After a few moments, he managed to compose himself somewhat and began issuing commands.

"O-okay, okay."

Several doctors hastily complied with his instructions, employing medical equipment to examine the patient who had vomited blood.

"Dr. Wang, he is indeed vomiting blood. This is precisely what Chen Yang predicted would occur. I believe it would be prudent to suspend the medication for the time being and invite Chen Yang back so we may discuss this collectively. An epidemic is no trivial matter; we cannot afford to be reckless." The town chief grew increasingly anxious and immediately thought of Chen Yang.

Yet, Dr. Wang remained stubbornly insistent.

"Town Chief, are you questioning my medical capabilities? The patient vomiting blood is highly likely due to some pre-existing condition; it does not necessarily indicate a flaw in my medication. This is merely an isolated incident!" Dr. Wang declared with conviction.

Pft...

As soon as his words concluded, another nearby patient in critical condition unexpectedly expelled a mouthful of blood, writhed in pain a few times, then tumbled off the bed and lost consciousness.

Furthermore, it was not an isolated occurrence. Within the brief span of half a minute that followed, nearly all the patients who had received the medication began exhibiting identical symptoms.

The severely ill coughed up blood, while those with less critical conditions writhed in agony, their cries echoing in unbearable pain. The once calm room descended into sheer pandemonium, a cacophony of screams akin to a descent into hell.

"Doctor Wang! While one patient's condition might be attributed to their own illness, now everyone is exhibiting the same symptoms. How do you explain this?" The town chief’s voice was a mixture of shock and fury.

It was abundantly clear that the unfolding events perfectly mirrored Chen Yang’s earlier warnings.

Every patient was experiencing the exact same adverse reactions that Chen Yang had predicted, unequivocally pointing to a flaw in Doctor Wang’s prescribed treatment.

"This..."

Doctor Wang’s own panic began to set in, a dawning realization of the dire situation finally dawning on him.

"There must be another explanation. My treatment plan was developed through rigorous research. How could it possibly be flawed?" Doctor Wang stubbornly clung to his initial assessment, unwilling to concede his plan might be incorrect.

The town chief retorted, his voice laced with anger, "Then why was there no issue with the treatment Chen Yang devised for everyone last night? You've only been here a short while, and now this calamity has befallen us?"

"I..." Doctor Wang found himself utterly speechless, unable to offer a response.

Gritting his teeth, the town chief was swamped by a wave of regret, his insides churning. Had he known this would happen, he should have been more insistent on trusting Chen Yang earlier.

Even if he had faced repercussions, it would have been worth it.

"Everyone cease the medication immediately. I am going to retrieve Chen Yang at once. No one is to make any further rash decisions!"

With those final words, the town chief bolted from the building, his urgent goal to find Chen Yang.

At this critical juncture, assigning blame was secondary; stabilizing the patients was the paramount concern.

Hurrying along, the town chief eventually caught sight of Chen Yang and Wu Kexin at the village's edge, just as they were about to depart.

"Chen Yang! Kexin!"

The town chief’s call drew their attention, and they turned around.

"Town Chief?"

"Chen Yang, please don't leave. The village desperately needs you," the town chief pleaded, arriving breathless.

"Town Chief, has something happened with the patients?" Observing the town chief's disheveled state, Chen Yang immediately suspected a problem had arisen.

Indeed, the situation had unfolded precisely as he had foreseen.

"Yes, you've hit the mark. As soon as that charlatan's medicine was administered, it wasn't long before the patients began vomiting blood and experiencing severe adverse reactions," the town chief stated with palpable anxiety.

Chen Yang’s brow furrowed upon hearing this confirmation.

Despite anticipating such an outcome, witnessing it materialize still filled him with a sense of helplessness.

He hadn't anticipated the reactions would manifest so swiftly.

"Does this Doctor Wang have no contingency plans?" Chen Yang inquired further.

"Contingency plans? He’s completely bewildered and still refuses to acknowledge any fault with his concoctions. Chen Yang, please hurry back and assess the situation; a true crisis is unfolding today," the town chief urged.

"Very well, I shall return to examine the situation."

Chen Yang’s initial intention to leave stemmed from the belief that, despite Doctor Wang’s flawed prescription, the man possessed some medical acumen and should be capable of managing emergencies.

He had not foreseen the man’s utter incapacitation.

This meant he had no alternative but to return and rectify the escalating predicament.

Regardless of the reprehensible actions of Doctor Wang and his associates, the patients themselves were blameless.

As a physician, he could not stand idly by while the lives of innocent patients were endangered due to the incompetence of a few.

"Excellent, let us proceed," Chen Yang agreed.

Seeing that Chen Yang harbored no ill will, the town chief felt a profound sense of relief and regarded Chen Yang with renewed admiration.

The trio swiftly made their way back from the village entrance to the infirmary building.

The scene inside was truly akin to a scene from purgatory. Unceasing wails filled the air as patients, some vomiting blood, others convulsing on the floor, presented a sight too harrowing to behold.

"Quickly, utilize the diagnostic equipment to ascertain precisely what is going awry."

"Over there, fetch some clean water to help calm the patients."

...

Doctor Wang was not entirely without merit; upon Chen Yang and the town chief’s return, he was at least attempting some rudimentary interventions.

However, these so-called measures proved utterly ineffective for the suffering patients.

If the situation persisted, the patients’ lives would undoubtedly be in grave peril.
