Peach Blossom Divine Medical God Chapter 1971 - 1958: Incident at Linghe Village (Part 2)
Previously on Peach Blossom Divine Medical God...
"Let us conclude today's meeting. The plan we've laid out is to be followed precisely. Tomorrow afternoon, the factory manager and the technical team will accompany me for an on-site inspection of the herbs in the adjacent town."
With Chen Yang's decisive words, the meeting concluded.
The night passed without any unusual occurrences, and Chen Yang spent his time at home practicing some formation techniques.
This period of cultivating at home had led to a considerable enhancement in his skills.
Furthermore, he had absorbed a notable amount of Spiritual Energy, and it felt as though his power had advanced to the mid-stage of the Gathering Spirit Realm.
As he hadn't fully grasped it before, he wasn't entirely certain, but he held this strong impression.
The following morning arrived.
Chen Yang's initial intention was to visit the pharmaceutical factory, make necessary arrangements, and then depart in the afternoon to inspect the herbs in the neighboring town.
However, before he could set out, Wang Hong arrived in a hurry to see him.
Wang Hong had experienced significant progress recently.
By following Chen Yang, she had amassed considerable wealth, and her current attire was quite refined, elevating her overall presence.
One would hardly guess she originated from a rural background.
"Yang Zi, something major has occurred."
Wang Hong burst into Chen Yang's residence, exclaiming loudly.
Observing her agitated state, Chen Yang appeared somewhat perplexed: "What's amiss, Aunt Wang? What has happened?"
"Yang Zi, do you happen to know of Linghe Village?" Wang Hong inquired with a hint of mystery.
"Linghe Village? Yes, isn't it just over ten miles from here? What could possibly have happened to cause you such concern?" Chen Yang responded with a smile.
Linghe Village and Liuhe Village are situated within the same township.
The village boasts a substantial population and a school that is well-regarded in the town. Chen Yang was familiar with the location.
"A significant incident has taken place. It appears there might be an outbreak, numerous animals have perished, and a considerable number of people are afflicted." Wang Hong conveyed the information with evident nervousness.
Hmm?
Upon hearing this, Chen Yang was quite taken aback.
"An outbreak?"
"Yes, a great many livestock have died. At present, the town's medical professionals have been dispatched there, and the police are also present. The situation sounds quite complex." Wang Hong elaborated on the unfolding events.
Hearing this, Chen Yang immediately grasped the severity of the situation.
"How could such an outbreak occur? Has the root cause been investigated?" Chen Yang sought further details from Wang Hong.
His inquiry stemmed not just from curiosity; as a physician, he understood the perilous consequences should an epidemic begin to spread.
"The cause remains unknown. Regardless, all the doctors from the town have been sent to the location. Yang Zi, why don't you also go and take a look? Your medical skills would undoubtedly be of immense help." Wang Hong proposed.
This was precisely why she had rushed to inform Chen Yang of the news.
"Very well, Aunt Wang, I understand. I will first consult with Kexin to get a clearer picture of the situation. If my assistance can be of value, I will certainly go." Chen Yang replied.
"That's good, we are all neighbors here. It would be beneficial for all of us if this is resolved quickly." Wang Hong nodded with a smile before departing.
"An outbreak?"
After Wang Hong's departure, Chen Yang became lost in thought.
How could such an event suddenly manifest without any prior indication?
If one were to look back twenty to thirty years, with the rudimentary hygiene standards in rural areas, such diseases might have been plausible.
However, in the present day, with vastly improved sanitation, it was almost unheard of for outbreaks to occur.
This led Chen Yang to suspect that something was amiss.
Moreover, with his newfound access to numerous elements from the cultivation world, he understood that many problems could potentially stem from causes beyond the ordinary dimensions.
This line of reasoning prompted him to consider alternative possibilities.
Ring, ring, ring...
Precisely as he was immersed in contemplation, the insistent ringing of his phone shattered his thoughts.
Taking out his mobile device, he observed that the call was from Wu Kexin.
"It might be regarding the outbreak."
Chen Yang swiped the screen and answered the call.
Indeed, the moment the connection was established, Wu Kexin's voice, tinged with anxiety, reached him.
She urged Chen Yang to come to Linghe Village with haste, as his help was critically needed.
Chen Yang had already intended to go there, and since Wu Kexin had reached out, he naturally could not refuse.
"Understood, wait for me for a short while; I shall be there shortly." Chen Yang ended the call and immediately drove his van directly towards Linghe Village.
The distance was merely ten kilometers, and given his speed, he arrived at Linghe Village in under twenty minutes.
Chen Yang had visited Linghe Village on a previous occasion.
A humble mountain village nestled against a large mountain, characterized by clear skies and pristine water.
However, the current scene was starkly different.
The entrance to the village was congested with a multitude of vehicles, including ambulances and police cars.
Numerous personnel were actively engaged in setting up barricades, rigorously controlling both ingress and egress.
Chen Yang’s vehicle came to a halt at the village’s edge. After a quick scan of the surroundings, he promptly contacted Wu Kexin to announce his arrival.
"Alright, I'll be right out to fetch you," Wu Kexin replied.
A couple of minutes later, Wu Kexin emerged at the entrance, a gas mask concealing her face.
"Chen Yang, you should put this on too," she said, offering him a mask.
The sight of the mask startled Chen Yang.
"Is it really that bad? We need gas masks now?"
"The situation is quite perilous. You absolutely must wear it to enter the village, just to be safe," Wu Kexin elaborated.
"Understood." Without further questions, Chen Yang donned the gas mask and proceeded into the village alongside Wu Kexin.
As they walked, Wu Kexin provided Chen Yang with a detailed account of the unfolding crisis.
"Approximately three days ago, livestock in Linghe Village began to perish unexpectedly. Initially, the villagers didn't give it much thought, assuming the animals were simply succumbing to illness. However, as the days passed, the problem escalated, with an increasing number of livestock dying."
"Last night, a number of people started falling ill, which finally triggered widespread alarm."
Wu Kexin laid out the grim reality of the situation.
Chen Yang processed the information, his understanding solidifying.
This appeared to be a classic rural epidemic, beginning with animals and subsequently infecting humans.
Under normal medical conditions, this shouldn't pose an insurmountable challenge; identifying the pathogen and its source should lead to a resolution.
"Normally, that would be the case. However, according to the doctors from the county, this outbreak is far from ordinary," Wu Kexin added.
"Not ordinary?"
"Indeed. Past outbreaks had cases that could be managed, but this current affliction seems unprecedented. The county doctors are baffled, which is why I've brought you here, hoping you might possess a solution," Wu Kexin explained.
Chen Yang had initially presumed it was a common livestock plague.
Yet, Wu Kexin's words suggested a far more complex and troubling scenario.
"Let's proceed to take a look first," Chen Yang stated simply.
"Very well." Wu Kexin immediately guided Chen Yang towards a specific residence.
Due to the unknown nature of the disease, all individuals exhibiting symptoms had been isolated within this single dwelling to curb further transmission.
"Please present your credentials."
Additional barricades were erected around the property, restricting public access.
After Wu Kexin presented her identification, they gained entry.
Beyond the initial security checkpoint, numerous doctors in white coats attended to several patients resting on beds.
"Mayor, Chen Yang has arrived."
The mayor himself was present at the scene.
Given the severity of the outbreak within his jurisdiction, the mayor was understandably overwhelmed.
Despite a troubled expression, his face lightened slightly upon seeing Chen Yang.
"Kexin, Chen Yang, you're finally here," the mayor greeted them, moving towards them.
As the mayor was an old acquaintance, pleasantries were kept brief.
Chen Yang immediately sought clarification on the medical situation.
"Mayor, what are the symptoms these patients are presenting? Has the cause of this illness been identified?" Chen Yang inquired.
"The symptoms are severe. Critical patients exhibit a purplish complexion, alongside vomiting, diarrhea, and even convulsions. Milder cases display tremors and a generally unhealthy appearance. The specific cause remains under investigation and is still undetermined," the mayor reported.
"Chen Yang, your medical expertise is renowned. I asked Kexin to bring you here to see if you might offer any remedies. The condition of the critically ill is extremely grave, and we cannot afford to wait for the county's research to yield results," the mayor implored, his gaze fixed on Chen Yang with a glimmer of hope.
