Chen Yang and He Xiran gathered herbs, but He Xiran's strange behavior toward Wangcai made Chen Yang uneasy. Later, she wandered off and disappeared, causing Chen Yang to worry. Following Wangcai's tracking, Chen Yang found signs of a battle and blood, leading him to He Xiran, who was violently subduing a mountain cat. He Xiran claimed the beast attacked her first, and Chen Yang advised her to release it.

The mountain cat was utterly terrified, completely bewildered by He Xiran's intentions. It remained motionless on the ground, paralyzed by fear, lest any movement provoke another beating from He Xiran.

"Chen Yang, it truly wasn't me who initiated this; it attacked first," He Xiran explained to Chen Yang after releasing her grip.

Chen Yang appeared somewhat exasperated. "It doesn't matter who began it. Just tell me, do you want it to live or not?" Chen Yang asked directly.

He Xiran nodded vigorously, like a pecking chick, "Of course, I want it to live."

"Then remain silent for now. You've struck this mountain cat quite severely. If I don't intervene, it will die," Chen Yang stated.

"Ah? I..." He Xiran was horrified. She had not anticipated the mountain cat sustaining such grievous injuries. She had merely thought she’d hit it a few times; she never imagined such a consequence.

"Is it truly that serious, Chen Yang? Then you must save it; I never intended for this to happen..." He Xiran felt a pang of guilt. It was evident this was not her intended outcome. A spiritual beast had suddenly emerged from the mountains to attack her. She had impulsively decided to capture it, thus pursuing the mountain cat relentlessly. The mountain cat, in a state of panic, either fled or fought back, leading to He Xiran striking it with excessive force.

"Rest assured, I will examine its condition first." Chen Yang offered comfort to He Xiran before slowly approaching the mountain cat. The mountain cat was visibly trembling, its body shaking uncontrollably, and it emitted continuous hisses. Hissing is a natural defensive instinct for felines, intended to ward off threats. However, it proved ineffective against Chen Yang.

"Don't be alarmed; I'm only here to assess your injuries." Chen Yang understood that spiritual beasts possessed a degree of intelligence and that the mountain cat likely comprehended his words.

"I apologize, little cat. I only wished to keep you; I meant no harm. Seeing your distress caused me to strike harder. I never envisioned this outcome," He Xiran also began to offer apologies to the mountain cat from the side. Whether the mountain cat failed to understand or was simply too wild, its hissing did not cease; instead, it intensified, carrying a clear warning.

From a distance, Chen Yang hadn't grasped the full extent of the situation, mistakenly believing the mountain cat was motionless due to fear. Now, upon closer examination, he discovered that the mountain cat's spine was fractured. It wasn't a matter of unwillingness to move, but an inability to do so.

"Its condition is critical; I cannot save it here in the wild," Chen Yang declared. A fractured spine represented a fatal injury for this beast, not something that could be casually mended.

"What should we do then?" He Xiran inquired anxiously. She genuinely hadn't foreseen such a turn of events. Chen Yang found himself in a predicament. Forcing the mountain cat to move would undoubtedly trigger its wild instincts, causing it to struggle violently. This could not only endanger those nearby but also exacerbate its own injuries through its thrashing.

After careful consideration, Chen Yang resolved to refine two Taming Pills on the spot. The goal was to pacify the mountain cat temporarily. Once they could transport it, handling the situation would become considerably easier.

"Wait here for a moment; I need to gather some herbs," Chen Yang informed He Xiran after a brief pause for thought. "Alright, Chen Yang, you go ahead. I'll stay here," He Xiran agreed immediately.

Chen Yang, accompanied by Wangcai, proceeded to collect the necessary herbs in the vicinity. He then refined the Taming Pills, crafting a few with ease. Upon his return, he administered the pills to the mountain cat by forcing them down its throat. Initially, the mountain cat resisted, emitting fierce sounds of defiance throughout the process. However, after a short while, as the medication took effect, it rapidly calmed down, falling silent.

Not only did it cease hissing at Chen Yang, but it also offered no resistance when Chen Yang reached out to touch it. Observing this, He Xiran was filled with astonishment! "Chen Yang, what is happening? Why did it stop struggling after you gave it those pills?" He Xiran seemed to believe the mountain cat was now fine. In reality, the mountain cat’s condition remained extremely grave.

"I administered a temporary sedative to reduce aggression. It's nearing dusk, and its injuries cannot afford further delay, so let's descend the mountain quickly. This will allow me to treat it properly," Chen Yang explained. Hearing that the mountain cat's prognosis was still dire, He Xiran's expression immediately tightened with worry. "Alright... let's hurry then."

"Mmhm." Chen Yang nodded, gently lifting the now docile mountain cat into his arms, and they began their descent. The path downwards proved challenging. It took Chen Yang and He Xiran half an hour to return to the medical clinic.

"Chen Yang, is there anything I can do to help? I'm willing to offer my assistance."

Upon their return home, He Xiran immediately offered her assistance, eager to help in any way she could.

"No need, you can just watch from the side. There's nothing else for you to do," Chen Yang declined.

The mountain cat's condition was rather complex, and He Xiran, lacking medical skills, wouldn't be of much help. Therefore, it was best for her to simply observe while he handled the rest.

"Alright," He Xiran didn't argue, complying and standing obediently to the side.

She observed as Chen Yang placed the mountain cat in the courtyard and subsequently went to gather his medicinal tools.

For a different kind of injury, Chen Yang might have simply prescribed some medicine and allowed for rest and recuperation.

However, with a broken spine, the situation was intricate; without proper stabilization, permanent repercussions were a distinct possibility.

Thus, Chen Yang made thorough preparations before commencing treatment on the mountain cat.

Initially, he administered two elixirs to promote bodily regeneration.

Following that, he utilized a specialized technique to set the mountain cat's fractured bones.

Once the bones were aligned, Chen Yang promptly attached supportive splints to firmly immobilize them.

To prevent any movement, he even secured the cat with several loops of rope.

"Alright, everything that can be done has been done. As long as it remains still, the bones should mend without issue," Chen Yang announced, clapping his hands after concluding the procedure.

"What if it does move?" He Xiran inquired with concern.

Witnessing Chen Yang's treatment made her realize the significant force she had used, nearly causing severe injury to the mountain cat.

It was fortunate that Chen Yang intervened in time; otherwise, the consequences could have been dire, potentially leading to the mountain cat's death by her hand.

Seeing He Xiran's worried expression, Chen Yang couldn't help but offer a wry smile.

He understood her actions weren't intentional, but acknowledged she had indeed been quite heavy-handed.

"If it moves, the bones could shift, and even if they eventually heal, there could be lasting problems," Chen Yang explained.

"Is it that serious?"

"Of course, it's the spine; how could it not be serious? You're fortunate to have met me. A regular doctor might have declared it permanently paralyzed," Chen Yang emphasized.

A sense of embarrassment washed over He Xiran.

"Well, I've done all I can. Whether it fully recovers will depend on its own destiny. You've been out all day; shouldn't you head back? Don't make your uncle worry," Chen Yang suggested, as dusk began to fall, preparing to refine more elixirs and subtly signaling for her departure.

However, He Xiran shook her head. "I'll leave a bit later. Uncle knows I'm with you, so he won't be worried. I'll stay with the mountain cat for a while longer."

Chen Yang simply smiled and shook his head, not pressing the matter further.

"Very well, just keep an eye on the time and return to your hotel promptly."

Assuming she intended to stay for a short period as a form of remorse before leaving on her own, he didn't concern himself with her any longer.

He returned to his room, closed the door, and commenced the process of refining elixirs.
