Chen Yang completely disregarded Liu Qingqing's words. As the dishes arrived, he began to eat and drink heartily, holding nothing back. Although he wasn't a regular drinker, he managed to finish two bottles of liquor by himself. Still not satisfied, he ordered two more bottles. Liu Qingqing's heart ached with every sip, but she kept her true feelings hidden.
"Qingqing, I truly see potential in this investment, but regrettably, I'm short on cash right now. Let's discuss it further tomorrow," Wang Jingman stated, looking a bit displeased. Liu Qingqing, not foolish, realized her earlier words had backfired and quickly attempted to salvage the situation by changing the subject.
"Haha, Jingman, please don't misunderstand your sister's intentions. I spoke so much because I genuinely don't want you to miss this opportunity. However, investing is indeed something that requires careful consideration. No worries, tomorrow works perfectly. I'll accompany you to make the investment, and we can sign the contract together," Liu Qingqing replied with a smile.
"Yes, I'll try my best to gather the funds when I return home today. If possible, I'll invest; otherwise, I might need a little more time," Wang Jingman said.
"Oh, come now, sister, don't say such things to me. Don't I know your family's financial situation? While more might be challenging, this sum of thirty million is a minor matter. I firmly believe you can achieve it," Liu Qingqing said with a light laugh. Wang Jingman merely offered a smile in response, not elaborating further.
With Wang Jingman unwilling to continue the discussion about the cooperation, the conversation at the table dwindled, leaving no other topics to pursue. After consuming a bit more food, Liu Qingqing signaled the waiter to bring the bill. Upon receiving it, her expression visibly paled. The meal had cost over sixty thousand, a significant sting to her finances. Her family wasn't as affluent from birth as Wang Jingman's, so she naturally didn't indulge in extravagant spending. Yet, to maintain appearances and leave a positive impression, she had to grit her teeth and pay the bill.
"Haha, alright, let's head out then. The bill is settled," Liu Qingqing managed a forced smile.
"Indeed, we've eaten our fill, it's time to leave now," Chen Yang deliberately added, further irking Liu Qingqing internally. He seemed to have joined them solely for a free meal. Despite her immense displeasure, she could not voice it, maintaining a strained smile on her face.
"Haha, as long as you enjoyed the meal. I was just concerned you wouldn't eat enough," Liu Qingqing chuckled, then turned to Wang Jingman. "Jingman, you've found quite the boyfriend; he can certainly hold his liquor, downing two bottles as if it were nothing."
Wang Jingman felt a wave of awkwardness at this moment. Chen Yang had indeed consumed a considerable amount of alcohol, drinking rather aimlessly, which slightly blemished his image. However, she knew inwardly that Chen Yang was not a reckless or improper person, and he must have had a reason for his behavior.
"Haha, Chen Yang certainly has a strong tolerance for alcohol. I apologize for the expense," Wang Jingman said politely.
"Ah, it's nothing at all; there are no costs between us. Just keep in touch in the future," Liu Qingqing feigned generosity as she spoke.
"Alright, thank you for your hospitality. Chen Yang and I will take our leave now. If I manage to gather the funds, I'll contact you immediately." With dinner concluded and all necessary discussions had, Wang Jingman prepared to depart. Liu Qingqing, sharing the same sentiment, did not press them to stay. After a few polite exchanges, they bid farewell and went their separate ways.
"Goodbye," Chen Yang waved to Liu Qingqing with a smile before leaving with Wang Jingman.
"Chen Yang, what's going on? Don't you think this cooperation is promising?" Once they were back in the car, Wang Jingman immediately inquired, her curiosity piqued by Chen Yang's unusual demeanor today.
Chen Yang smiled as he fastened his seatbelt. "It's not just unpromising; it's a complete trap."
"A trap? How so?" Wang Jingman was taken aback. She prided herself on her perceptiveness, confident that she could detect any potential issues. Everything had appeared perfectly normal, with no apparent discrepancies.
"Remember when I said I was going to the restroom? Actually, I didn't go to the restroom; I took a brief tour around their company's premises. The live stream situation seemed promising, but do you know what I overheard in the restroom?" Chen Yang explained to Wang Jingman as he drove.
Wang Jingman looked at Chen Yang, her eyes filled with curiosity. "What did you hear?"
"I heard their company's hosts complaining that their wages, which had already been announced, had been defaulted on by the company for three consecutive months," Chen Yang revealed.
"What? That’s impossible. I saw his company’s financial statements; they generate substantial profits monthly. How could they possibly be unable to pay their employees?" Wang Jingman responded, her shock deepening.
Mr. Qi had previously presented her with the company’s data, showcasing the popularity of their hosts, and everything had appeared quite promising.
She couldn't fathom how any issues could arise.
A significant portion of that data should have been accurate.
"Their company does indeed earn money and has daily revenues. However, from what I’ve gathered, Mr. Qi is quite fond of gambling, which has led to the company’s profits being squandered. Consequently, salaries remain unpaid," Chen Yang explained.
"I surmise their company has genuinely depleted its funds, and they intend to deceive you into providing capital to temporarily bridge the financial gap, hoping to retain their hosts for the time being," Chen Yang elaborated.
"Regarding your investment, they would likely arrange for a staged event, claim poor business performance, and then declare bankruptcy. There would be nothing you could do about it," Chen Yang continued.
"Meanwhile, their ‘Success Network Media’ would carry on as usual. Since it’s a new venture established with you as a partner, the old company would have no connection to you."
Chen Yang’s explanation served as a profound revelation for Wang Jingman, illuminating the entire situation.
Indeed, if that Mr. Qi was earning so much daily, why would he be so insistent on partnering with her to establish a new branch company?
There was undeniably something clandestine about the entire arrangement.
"That Mr. Qi is certainly more complex than he initially appears," Wang Jingman remarked.
"I must contact Liu Qingqing immediately and warn her against investing; she is extremely keen on this venture," Wang Jingman realized suddenly, hastily retrieving her phone to reach Liu Qingqing.
However, her attempt was halted by Chen Yang.
"There’s no need to call Liu Qingqing; I suspect she was the one who conceived this plan to ensnare you," Chen Yang stated.
"What?" Wang Jingman appeared even more bewildered.
Observing Wang Jingman’s confusion, Chen Yang proceeded to recount the conversation he had inadvertently overheard during dinner.
Upon hearing his account, Wang Jingman was overcome with a mixture of anger and deep disappointment!
She had always considered Liu Qingqing a close sister, never imagining that she would conspire with others to deceive her.
This profound sense of betrayal and being stabbed in the back was an exceptionally painful experience.
