Chen Yang discovers that the thriving company scene may be an act. He observes Liu Qingqing and General Manager Qi presenting a project to Wang Jingman, suspecting deceit. Despite the contract being ready, Chen Yang delays the signing by claiming insufficient funds, which Wang Jingman supports. Liu Qingqing then invites Wang Jingman to dinner, continuing to praise the project and their closeness.

While they were waiting for the elevator, a sudden thought struck Liu Qingqing: she had left her bag behind in President Qi’s office.

“Oh no, I completely forgot my bag. Jingman, why don’t you and the others head down first? There’s a really nice restaurant downstairs. You can start ordering, and I’ll be right there once I grab my bag,” Liu Qingqing suggested.

“Why don’t we all go back with you to get it?” Wang Jingman offered.

“No, no, it’s perfectly fine for me to go by myself. Please, go ahead and order. It’s really no trouble at all,” Liu Qingqing waved her hand dismissively.

“Well… alright then, we’ll just wait here for you. Please hurry back,” Wang Jingman replied.

“Okay, please wait for me a moment, I’ll be right back,” Liu Qingqing nodded with a smile and then turned, heading straight back towards the office.

Initially, Chen Yang had no intention of intervening.

However, a sudden realization dawned on him: Liu Qingqing’s return to the office might be for more than just retrieving her bag. This sparked a thought in him to discreetly follow her and observe.

“Oh, Jingman, I believe I also left something behind in President Qi’s office. I’ll go retrieve it as well,” Chen Yang announced to Wang Jingman.

“Huh? You forgot something too? What’s going on?” Wang Jingman responded, a tone of amusement mixed with disbelief in her voice.

Chen Yang offered a slight smile, “I was so engrossed in President Qi’s words earlier that I wasn’t paying close attention. Wait for me for a moment, I’ll be right back.”

“Alright, go ahead. I’ll wait for both of you.”

Wang Jingman didn't suspect anything, assuming Chen Yang had genuinely forgotten something, and simply let him go.

Chen Yang gave a brief nod of acknowledgment and then quickly followed behind Liu Qingqing.

As he neared President Qi’s office, he happened to see Liu Qingqing entering.

The door was not fully closed, merely left ajar.

Peering through the narrow gap, he could discern the scene unfolding within the office.

“Why have you returned?” President Qi’s voice could be heard.

“I forgot my bag, I just came back to get it,” Liu Qingqing replied.

“Is your friend truly reliable or not? My company is desperately waiting for that investment to pay salaries! If she fails to invest, I might have to sell you off to cover the debt!” President Qi’s voice took on a sharp, cold edge.

“Oh, President Qi, why are you always fretting about these matters? Didn’t you witness their eagerness just now? Rest assured, nothing will go awry.”

“Focus on how to proceed. Her family does possess some influence, and her funds won’t be easily swindled,” Liu Qingqing advised.

President Qi let out a cold sneer, “Have no fear. I have made all the necessary arrangements long ago. Once she invests the money, I shall merely establish a shell company in her name over there.”

“Within a few months, I’ll simply claim the host wasn’t effective, and all the funds were lost through expenses. She will have no grounds for recourse. Investments inherently carry risks, after all.”

Liu Qingqing let out a chuckle upon hearing this, a sense of satisfaction washing over her.

“You truly are remarkable, President Qi.”

“Hmph, and you are not to be underestimated either, finding me such a plump target. Once I secure that thirty million from her, your gambling debts will be settled, and I will even bestow upon you a reward of one million. Not a single cent less.”

“Haha, that is more than enough for me. Very well, I shall not prolong this conversation. I don’t wish to arouse any suspicion by returning too late. I will go and 'persuade' her further, perhaps get her to sign the deal with you tonight.”

“Excellent, I shall eagerly await your good news.”

President Qi nodded, concluding their discussion.

Both believed their scheme was flawless, yet in reality, Chen Yang, positioned just outside the door, had already seen through their entire plot.

“This Liu Qingqing is indeed not a simple individual to contend with; my intuition was correct.”

Chen Yang’s brow furrowed slightly, a subtle ember of anger igniting within him.

Wang Jingman considered Liu Qingqing a cherished sister from their shared school days, yet Liu Qingqing harbored such malicious intentions.

Was she truly treating Wang Jingman as mere prey to be exploited?

Upon detecting the sound of Liu Qingqing’s approaching footsteps, Chen Yang ceased his contemplation.

In the blink of an eye, he vanished from his spot, reappearing near the company’s main entrance.

Liu Qingqing emerged from President Qi’s office, completely oblivious to any unusual occurrences.

She remained unaware that Chen Yang had just been eavesdropping on their conversation.

Back at the company’s front desk, seeing Chen Yang and Wang Jingman still waiting for her, Liu Qingqing’s face was beaming with smiles.

“Jingman, I apologize for keeping you waiting. When I went back, President Qi spoke with me for a while. He mentioned we should invest soon; it's approaching the peak of online traffic, and we must seize this opportunity for substantial profits, which is why I was delayed a bit,” Liu Qingqing explained, smiling warmly and naturally linking arms with Wang Jingman.

“Qingqing, President Qi seems very enthusiastic, but I’m actually a bit tied up today. Let’s discuss it again tomorrow,” Wang Jingman responded.

Liu Qingqing let out a lighthearted laugh, “Haha, it’s quite alright. I was merely bringing it up. We are sisters, I completely understand if you have constraints. Let’s head downstairs and order some food now; we can chat over our meal.”

“Alright.”

Wang Jingman nodded, and the three of them took the elevator down to the restaurant together.

The restaurant situated downstairs was quite luxurious.

It boasted an impressive array of ingredients, catering to every conceivable culinary desire.

With Liu Qingqing handling the arrangements, Chen Yang felt no need to hold back. This woman had clearly intended for him and Wang Jingman to be like sheep led to the slaughter, so why would Chen Yang indulge her machinations? As soon as they were seated, Chen Yang began placing his order, making a point to select the priciest options. The choices he made caused Liu Qingqing's expression to shift subtly. However, Chen Yang's ordering spree wasn't over. After selecting the main courses, he beckoned the server over to inquire about beverages.

“Is this the most expensive spirit you stock?” Chen Yang inquired, gesturing towards the menu. The server's eyes brightened, and he nodded affirmatively, “Indeed, sir. This is our most premium offering, priced at 5,888 per bottle.” “Excellent, then be so kind as to bring two bottles of this,” Chen Yang stated directly. “Certainly, sir,” the server replied agreeably before departing. Liu Qingqing's face took on a rather grim pallor. Merely from Chen Yang's selections, the bill would surely run into the tens of thousands, wouldn't it? What a vexing situation. Yet, there seemed to be no alternative. To maintain cordiality and secure Wang Jingman's trust for the investment, she would have to grit her teeth and bear the cost.

“Haha, it’s wonderful to see you two reunited. It wouldn’t be right without some fine drinks to celebrate,” Chen Yang remarked, feigning ignorance of Liu Qingqing’s disgruntled expression. Although she felt a pang of financial loss, Liu Qingqing managed a smile. “Haha… You are quite right, Mr. Chen. Our collaboration promises great returns, so we should indeed dine and drink to our heart's content today.” Wang Jingman, however, detected an underlying oddity. In her usual dining experiences with Chen Yang, such extravagant ordering was unheard of. His current behavior strongly suggested an ulterior motive, prompting her to act as if she hadn't noticed anything amiss, maintaining a natural demeanor. She planned to question Chen Yang about the situation later.

“Haha, yes, Qingqing, it truly has been several years since we last met…”

At the commencement of the meal, Wang Jingman engaged in genuine reminiscence with Liu Qingqing, catching up on their past experiences. Liu Qingqing maintained a pleasant conversation as well. However, it wasn't long before Liu Qingqing steered the discussion towards her true agenda, deliberately shifting the focus to the investment matter at hand. She spoke at length, but her underlying message was remarkably straightforward: this was a rare opportunity that should not be missed. She expressed her hope that Wang Jingman would seize the moment and invest promptly, ensuring she didn't let this chance slip away. Liu Qingqing continued to press this point, causing Wang Jingman to start feeling a sense of unease. She had been very clear that discussions regarding the investment would take place tomorrow. Yet, judging by Liu Qingqing's insistent tone, it seemed as though an investment was expected today without fail. The entire situation began to feel rather uncomfortable.
