Reborn into the body of Lin Anjing, a young woman from the Xiyun Kingdom, the former 21st-century soldier An Jing finds herself in a deep pit. Lin Anjing, known as a 'Stone Woman' for her inability to menstruate and bear children, had suffered greatly from societal scorn and family abuse before falling into this trap. An Jing vows to cherish this second chance at life and survive her dire circumstances.

Although the circumstances of my transmigration were dire, and the possibility of perishing from starvation in this abyss loomed, a fervent desire for a good life necessitated my utmost effort towards a rescue.

Had Lin Anjing not sustained a twisted right ankle upon her descent, direct egress would have been feasible. She possessed the capability to carve small indentations into the earthen walls, forming rudimentary handholds and footholds, and ascend systematically. After all, she was a seasoned operative from a special forces unit, equipped with unparalleled wilderness survival expertise.

“Hiss—” An Jing cautiously examined her throbbing right ankle, confirming its painful state.

She contemplated attempting to stand and chip away at the walls for an ascent, but the sharp pain emanating from her ankle made it evident that any pressure on her right foot would be detrimental. To proceed would risk irretrievable damage. Therefore, An Jing promptly abandoned this notion and resumed her calls into the chasm, “Help… Someone, please save me… Help…”

“Hey, Changyi, there’s indeed someone who’s fallen down here.”

As An Jing, eyes shut, exerted her full voice in a desperate plea, a voice from directly overhead startled her, causing her to snap her eyes open.

Two figures stood at the edge of the pit, silhouetted against the light, obscuring their features. One exuded a broad, sturdy presence, while the other appeared tall and lanky.

Notwithstanding their indistinct visages, An Jing projected her voice upwards, “Could you possibly assist me in getting out?”

As she spoke, An Jing strained to stand, a beacon of hope illuminating her delicate features.

“So, it’s Lin Anjing.” The same gruff male voice, seemingly belonging to the burly individual, identified her.

An Jing’s brow furrowed, “And you are…?”

The stout man promptly responded, “I am Niu Er.”

A moment of contemplation and a flicker through Lin Anjing’s memories confirmed Niu Er’s existence. A broad smile then graced her lips, “Ah, it’s Brother Niu Er! Uhm, Brother Niu Er, could you be so kind as to help me? I’ve been trapped down here for quite some time.”

“You…” Niu Er’s gaze lingered on An Jing within the pit, a complex emotion crossing his face before he turned, his voice hushed as he addressed the man beside him, “Changyi, Lin Anjing seems rather peculiar today. Perhaps we ought not to assist her?”

Before Xiao Changyi could offer a reply, An Jing’s expression darkened. “Niu Er, we are from the same village, are we not? Do you truly possess the heart to stand idly by and witness my demise?”

Niu Er, taken aback that An Jing had overheard his words, awkwardly scratched his nose. He couldn’t help but grumble, “Ordinarily, you shun everyone or keep your head down, never engaging in conversation. I almost didn’t recognize you just now. Your behavior is so aberrant today; it makes me wonder if you engineered this trap yourself, specifically to ensnare us bachelors… Everyone in the village knows you’re unmarriable, and that your mother is pressuring you to find a husband…”

Niu Er’s voice trailed off, dwindling to an inaudible whisper by the end, yet An Jing, whose hearing had been exceptionally keen since childhood, perceived every word with absolute clarity.

Despite knowing that Niu Er’s disparaging remarks pertained to the original Lin Anjing and not her own self, a surge of irritation coursed through An Jing.

The intensity of her annoyance only served to heighten her composure. A disarming smile bloomed across her face, akin to a delicate flower. “Rest assured, even if I were to seek solace with a pig, I would never stoop to relying on you.”

“You—!” Niu Er’s eyes widened in incandescent rage.

Shhlah.

Abruptly, a thick hemp rope descended, dangling tantalizingly before An Jing’s eyes.

An Jing paused, her gaze tracing the hemp rope upwards to behold the tall, lanky man beside Niu Er, who had evidently cast it down.

“Changyi, why did you toss the rope? Do you truly intend to save her? What if she latches onto you once rescued? I believe we should refrain—” Niu Er vociferated, attempting to dissuade Xiao Changyi from his course of action, but a single frigid glance from Xiao Changyi instantly stifled Niu Er’s protest.
