Monsters suddenly attacked the Imperial Capital, causing widespread chaos and panic. As people fled for their lives, a mysterious golden light appeared in the sky in the form of countless swords. These swords began systematically eliminating the monsters, saving the terrified citizens. Ethan appeared amidst the chaos, directing the people to safety while observing the ongoing attacks on the Capital's walls.

Outside the Imperial Capital, the ground was already filled with soldiers. Several large groups had gathered in front of the city walls, and their formations stretched across the open field. Mages stood behind the warriors while Transcendent Knights remained closer to the front, watching the barrier and waiting for the right moment to attack.

At the center of the army, Garran stood with his weapon in hand. He looked toward the massive barrier covering the Capital and then turned toward the soldiers behind him. His expression was firm as he raised his hand.

"Line up everyone. I want that barrier down within an hour, for God's sake."

The soldiers immediately began moving into position.

Mages stepped forward and raised their staffs while warriors prepared their weapons. Moments later, countless attacks were launched toward the barrier.

BOOM!

BOOM!

BOOM!

Spells and powerful attacks struck the invisible wall one after another. Each impact created a large ripple across the barrier, and the surrounding air shook from the force.

Several mages continued pouring their mana into their attacks while the warriors launched long range attacks from behind them. The bombardment continued without stopping, and the barrier remained firmly in place.

Garran watched the scene with a serious expression and clenched his weapon.

"Keep attacking! Don't give it time to recover!"

Another wave of attacks flew forward and struck the barrier at the same time.

BOOM!

A massive shockwave spread across the field.

A short distance away, Lancelot stood with Rathlos and Ethan's other allies. He looked toward the barrier with a strange grin on his face, but there was no amusement in his eyes.

Rathlos noticed his expression and looked at him with concern.

"Your expression doesn't look right. Is something bothering you?"

Lancelot's grin slowly faded as he continued staring at the barrier.

"It's about the barrier. I don't think it was as formidable as of now. It seems it has been upgraded."

Rathlos's expression changed."You mean the barrier has been strengthened."

Lancelot nodded slowly.

"Yes. I have seen the Imperial Capital's defensive arrays before. They were already powerful, but this is different."

He watched another wave of attacks crash against the barrier.

The invisible wall shook violently, yet it still refused to break.

"Someone must have modified the magic arrays recently."

Rathlos frowned."The Devine Family?"

"Most likely."Lancelot folded his arms and stared at the Capital.

"If they really had enough time to prepare this, then we may have underestimated how much they were hiding."

Another massive explosion echoed across the battlefield as the bombardment continued.

Lancelot's eyes became serious."And that is what bothers me."

"Such a strong barrier isn't easy to maintain.I am sure they have been burning a lot to maintain it.Is this even sustainable for long term?"Rathlos questioned.

"Who knows! But I am certain that they don't mana stones."Lancelot snorted.

...…

Inside the city, after killing a huge number of the monstrous vile creatures, Ethan finally stopped for a moment and took a closer look at the corpses scattered across the street. The bodies looked nothing like natural creatures.

Various monstrous parts had been stitched into their humanoid bodies by force, with thick marks and rough scars covering the places where different limbs had been attached. Some had extra arms growing from their backs, while others had strange claws and appendages connected directly to their flesh.

Ethan slowly walked closer and crouched beside one of the corpses. His gaze moved across its body before stopping at the chest.

After moving aside some of the damaged flesh, he noticed something strange inside. A small core was embedded deep within the body, and it was still blistering with life even after the creature had died.

Faint energy continued moving through the core and spreading into the body, almost as if the core had been used to keep the entire creation running.

Ethan's expression slowly changed.

He bent down further and carefully examined the body. The more he looked, the more clearly he could see the signs of experimentation. The limbs had not grown naturally, and the body had clearly been changed through some cruel method. Different parts had been attached together, and the core had been placed inside to force the body to contain and use the power.

"A humanoid body who isn't awakened, stitched with various limbs with an embedded core inside to keep the power running."

His fingers slowly curled into a fist.

"Just what kind of vileness..."

The words came out quietly, but the anger in his voice was clear.

Ethan looked at the other corpses scattered around him. Some had strange horns, some had claws and others had extra limbs that did not belong to any human body. Looking at them made his chest feel heavy.

These were not monsters that had naturally appeared.

Someone had made them.

The more Ethan looked, the angrier he became. His desire to find the heads of the four families and slaughter them immediately grew stronger. He wanted to leave everything behind and rush straight toward them, but there was one problem.

He couldn't sense them.

Ethan slowly stood up and released his perception again, searching through the Capital. He carefully checked the surrounding area, but he could not find the presence of the family heads anywhere.

They shouldn't have left the Capital.

With the situation outside and the barrier still active, there was little reason for them to be somewhere else. Yet Ethan could not sense them no matter how carefully he searched.

His brows tightened.

"Where are they hiding?"

He looked toward the distant buildings and then toward the massive walls surrounding the Capital.

Even if they had hidden themselves somehow, Ethan was certain that they were still here.

"Even if I can't sense them, I am sure they are here, so very well... I will start my way from the walls."

His gaze hardened as he turned toward the massive wall.

If he couldn't find them directly, he would start by destroying the things protecting them and force them to reveal themselves.
