The streets of the Imperial Capital had turned into complete chaos. People were running in every direction without knowing where to go, and the streets that were once filled with merchants and travelers were now covered with broken carts, fallen stones and scattered belongings. Screams and cries echoed between the buildings as everyone tried to escape the creatures that had suddenly appeared.
The monsters looked like twisted versions of humans. Their bodies still had a humanoid shape, but their arms had become much larger and longer than normal. Some had multiple appendages growing from their backs, while others had sharp claws or strange limbs extending from their shoulders and sides. Their movements were wild and difficult to predict, and they attacked anything that came near them.
One of the creatures slammed its massive arm into the ground.
BANG!
The impact sent stones and dust flying through the street. Several people were thrown away by the shockwave, and terrified screams immediately followed.
"Run!"
"Get away from them!"
"Help!"
People pushed past each other as they desperately tried to escape. Some stumbled and fell, while others stopped to pull their family members back to their feet. The monsters continued chasing them without slowing down, and their strange screams and shrieks filled the streets.
A group of children was running through one of the narrow streets.
They were crying and holding each other's hands as they tried to keep up with the adults ahead of them. Behind them, one of the monstrous humans moved closer with heavy steps.
The children looked back in fear.
"Run!"
One of them screamed as they tried to move faster.
But one of the smaller children suddenly stumbled.
His foot caught against a broken piece of stone, and he fell onto the ground.
"Ah!"
The child cried out and tried to get back up, but his trembling legs refused to move properly.
The monstrous figure was already approaching.
A woman who had been running nearby suddenly stopped when she noticed the child.
The monstrous figure was already approaching.
A woman who had been running nearby suddenly stopped when she noticed the child.
"Come here!"
She rushed back and grabbed the small child into her arms.
"Don't be afraid. I have you."
She held the child tightly against her chest and turned around to run.
But before she could take more than a few steps, a powerful shockwave struck the street.
The woman slowly opened her eyes.
She stared at the headless body lying only a few steps away from her. For a moment, her mind could not understand what had just happened. She was still holding the child tightly against her chest, and her hands were trembling from fear.
She looked around in a dazed state of mind.
Then another golden light flashed across the street.
SHING!
A sword of light flew past her and struck another monstrous human that had been chasing a group of people. The creature raised its huge arm to defend itself, but the sword easily pierced through its body and continued forward before disappearing into the distance.
The monster collapsed heavily onto the ground.
The woman stared with wide eyes.
Another sword appeared in the sky.
Then another.
And another.
Soon, the entire Capital seemed to be filled with swords made of pure golden light.
They moved through the streets at incredible speed. Some flew between the buildings while others descended from above and struck the monsters directly. Every time a sword found its target, the result was immediate.
SHING!
A monstrous human was pierced through the chest and fell.
SHING!
Another sword cut through a creature's massive arm before striking its body.
SHING!
A third sword descended from above and crushed another monster against the ground.
The creatures that had been terrifying everyone only moments ago were now being hunted down one after another.
Some tried to escape.
They ran through the streets with their strange limbs moving wildly, but the swords followed them without giving them a chance to hide. Others tried to attack the swords, but their huge claws were unable to stop the golden light.
The people who had been running for their lives slowly began to stop.
They looked toward the sky.
Golden swords continued to appear one after another, spreading across the Capital like a rain of light.
One sword crossed above a rooftop and struck a monster that was about to attack a group of civilians.Another passed through a narrow alley and killed two creatures at once.
Several swords gathered in the air before suddenly shooting downward together, destroying a group of monsters that had surrounded a building.
The people inside the building watched through the windows with stunned expressions.
Nobody spoke.
They could only watch.
The same creatures that had filled the Capital with screams were now falling one after another.
The woman holding the child slowly stood up.
Her legs were still shaking, but she no longer felt the same fear.
She looked at the golden swords flying through the sky and felt a strange warmth spreading through her chest.
The child also lifted his head from her arms.
"Are they... saving us?"
The woman looked at him and gently held him closer.
"I think so."
Her voice trembled slightly as she spoke.
....
Golden swords continued flying through the streets of the Imperial Capital. They moved from one place to another, cutting through the chaos and striking the monstrous humans before they could reach the fleeing people.
The creatures quickly realized that something had changed.
Several of them roared and fought back. Their monstrous arms swung through the air while their strange appendages attacked the golden swords. Some tried to block them with their bodies, while others released their own attacks.
But it made no difference.
The golden swords broke through everything in their path.
One sword struck a monster through the chest and suddenly split into two. The two swords then split again, becoming four, and the four continued splitting as they flew through the streets.
Four became eight.
Eight became sixteen.
Soon, countless swords of light filled the sky.
They moved from one monster to another and annihilated them one after another. Every attempt to fight back ended the same way as the golden swords passed through their bodies and brought them down.
The people stood in the middle of the streets and watched in a dazed state.
They had been running for their lives only moments ago, but now they could only stare at the sight before them.
Then a figure suddenly appeared among them.
Ethan landed in the middle of the street and looked around at the people who were still standing there in shock. His expression was serious, and his voice immediately shook them from their dazed state.
"Move!"
The people flinched and looked toward him.
"Go out and hide out there."
His voice carried enough force to make them react.
"Quickly!"
The people finally woke up and started running again. Parents grabbed their children, injured people helped each other, and those who were still able to move quickly followed the others toward safer areas.
Ethan remained where he was for a moment and watched them leave.
He then slowly turned his head.
His gaze moved toward the massive walls of the Capital.
The golden light reflected across his face, but his expression became increasingly serious.
The barrier was still holding.
And beyond it, the attacks from the outside continued to strike against the walls.
Ethan narrowed his eyes as he stared at the scene.
