Prince Charles stared at Ethan for a few moments before slowly walking toward him. He had seen Ethan a few times before, especially during the events surrounding the war, and he knew that Ethan was considered one of the great geniuses of their generation.
Charles did not know the exact reason why Ethan was treated as traitor by the Crown Prince but after everything that had happened, he was sure Ethan must have played a very significant role in the war.
He stopped in front of Ethan and gave him a respectful bow.
"Lord Ethan."
Ethan nodded slightly.
"Prince Charles."
Charles straightened himself, but his expression remained uneasy. Being locked inside the Imperial Palace for so long had left both him and his mother constantly worried. They had no idea what was happening outside, and every passing day made them wonder whether the situation had become worse.
Elena also looked toward Ethan with a complicated expression. She had spent the past few days wondering whether her message had reached him and whether he would actually come. Now that he was standing before her, she still found it difficult to believe that someone had managed to enter the heavily guarded palace without being noticed.
Ethan looked at both of them and then glanced toward the door.
"We will be leaving now, but before that you need to answer me."
"What?" both Charles and Elena asked at the same time.
Ethan turned his eyes toward them. His expression was calm, but his voice carried a cold seriousness.
"What do you want to do after I save you?"
The question made Charles pause.
He looked at Elena for a moment before turning back toward Ethan. He understood why Ethan was asking. Even after being rescued, they were still members of the Royal Family. If they tried to gather people and reclaim the throne, everything could become troublesome again.
Charles took a slow breath before speaking.
"Lord Ethan, I have already relayed the message and I am saying it now."
His hands slowly tightened at his sides.
"I have no plans to rule and have authority. I swear on my name."
Ethan remained silent and watched him carefully.
Charles continued with a serious expression.
"I assure you that I won't be causing any trouble and will live my life peacefully."
Elena also nodded beside him.
"We only want to survive. We don't want the throne anymore."
Charles looked at his mother before lowering his gaze slightly.
"I have seen enough of what the throne brings. I don't want to repeat the same mistakes."
Ethan stared at him for a moment longer.
He could see that the boy was serious.
After a brief silence, Ethan finally nodded.
"Then follow me quickly. We need to get out here."
Charles immediately nodded.
"Yes, Lord Ethan."
Elena quickly moved closer to her son, and the three prepared to leave the room.
Ethan walked toward the door first and carefully checked the corridor outside. The guards he had knocked unconscious were still lying where he had left them.
He looked back at Charles and Elena.
"Stay close to me and don't make any noise."
Both nodded.
Ethan activated his concealment again, and the three quietly stepped out of the room.
Ethan carried them out quietly. There wasn't anything that could threaten him at this point.
Whenever he found someone coming toward them, he would simply move forward and knock them down before they could raise an alarm. He did not want to waste time fighting, especially when his main goal was to get Elena and Charles out safely.
If not for Elena and Charles, they would have directly invaded the Capital. Ethan had enough forces outside, and with the reinforcements sent by the Emperors, there was no reason for him to sneak around if he was only planning to attack.
But this was different.
He needed to get two people out without causing unnecessary chaos.
After moving through several hidden paths, Ethan finally led them toward the underground sewage tunnel that connected the Capital to the outside. The passage was dark and damp, and the smell was unpleasant, but it was still safer than trying to leave through the main gates.
When they reached the other end, Ethan saw several men waiting for them. They immediately stepped forward when they noticed Elena and Charles.
"Take them outside and keep them safe."
The men nodded and moved toward the Crown Princess and Prince.
Ethan was about to turn back when a loud vibration suddenly shook the entire structure.
BOOM!
The walls trembled, and dust fell from the ceiling.
Ethan stopped in his tracks.
"What's going on?" Ethan frowned, looking up.
Another heavy vibration followed.
BOOM!
The ground shook beneath their feet. Ethan could clearly feel the powerful force of fighting coming from above them. The battle had already started somewhere inside the Capital, and the strength behind it was not something ordinary warriors could produce.
Ethan's expression became serious.
He looked toward Elena and Charles.
"Follow them. They will take you out."
Elena's eyes widened.
"Ethan..."
She was about to say something, but Ethan had already turned around.
"Don't worry. You are absolutely safe with them. It's best if you leave early so we don't get entangled in a mess."
Elena hesitated, but she knew there was no point arguing with him.
"Please be careful."
Ethan gave her a small nod.
Then his body suddenly moved.
Swoosh!
He shot forward through the tunnel, leaving behind only a blur.
Charles watched his disappearing figure with a complicated expression.
"Mother..."
Elena gently placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Let's go."
She looked toward the men who had come to escort them."Lord Ethan saved us. We shouldn't make things harder for him."
Charles nodded quietly.
The group accompanied by Elena and Charles rushed through the underground passage. Their footsteps echoed through the narrow tunnel as they moved toward the exit, and the guards kept looking behind them while making sure that no one was following.
They had almost reached the end when the man in front suddenly slammed into something.
BANG!
His body bounced backward and fell heavily onto the ground. The people behind him immediately stopped, and Charles nearly collided with the person in front of him.
"What's going on?" Charles asked in shock.
The man slowly got back up. He looked confused as he reached forward and touched the empty space in front of him. His hand stopped as if it had touched a solid wall.
He moved his palm around and tried to find an opening, but there was nothing.
After feeling the surface for a few moments, his expression suddenly changed.
"Barrier... It's a Barrier out there!"
"Whattttt?"
