"What do you mean?"
One of the commanders immediately asked.
Ethan took a deep breath before explaining everything he knew. He spoke about the miasma spreading behind the battlefield, the countless dungeon gates, the strange cloaked figures, the enormous crimson cocoon, and the mysterious formation hidden deep within the corrupted land. He also spoke about Haster's betrayal and the reason he and Duke Osantra had barely managed to escape.
The more the commanders listened, the more serious their expressions became.
One of the elderly commanders slowly looked up.
"He might be right."
Another commander nodded.
"Yes. This certainly fills many of the gaps in our previous reports. Strange monster outbreaks, the sudden appearance of miasma, and Arcadia's unusual movements now make much more sense."
A middle-aged general folded his arms.
"It is not as though we never considered such a possibility."
"In fact, the real reason the four Emperors decided to move together was because someone suspected that something bigger was happening behind the scenes. They wanted to end everything with one final strike before things became even worse."
Another commander frowned deeply.
"But the real question is..."
"Whose group have they joined hands with?"
"Who exactly are they working with?"
Everyone slowly turned toward Ethan.
Ethan slowly shook his head."I don't know."
"We captured several of those cloaked figures and tried to question them, but before they could reveal anything, they suddenly started coughing blood. They all died because of some kind of curse."
Several commanders sighed.
"As expected."
"Those bastards made sure no information could leak."
"They really sealed their mouths well."
The discussion inside the tent became louder as more commanders joined in. Some began comparing intelligence reports while others discussed possible suspects. Different opinions were raised one after another, and the atmosphere inside the command tent gradually became more chaotic.
Ethan quietly stood there while listening to everyone argue.
His brows slowly furrowed.
The growing chatter only made the room feel more restless. Different commanders continued discussing among themselves while some argued over possibilities and others questioned Ethan further. The command tent, which had been silent only moments ago, was now filled with overlapping voices.
Just as Ethan was about to speak again...
His instincts suddenly screamed.A powerful sense of danger shot through his entire body.
Without thinking, Ethan immediately twisted his body and stepped to the side.
SWISH!
A sharp dagger flashed through the air.
The blade narrowly missed his neck and passed so close to his shoulder that he could feel the cold edge brush past him.
Ethan's pupils instantly contracted.
"What the..."
He immediately turned toward Marquise Shatad.
"Shatad!"
"Dodge!"
Shatad reacted the moment he heard Ethan's warning. His body instinctively leaned backward while he hurriedly tried to retreat. However, the attacker was far too fast.
The dark figure closed the distance in a single instant.
The assassin moved like a shadow drifting through the crowd. His footsteps were almost silent while his movements were unbelievably smooth. Before Shatad could fully move away, the dagger flashed once more with frightening precision.
Shatad's eyes widened. The blade slashed across his neck.
His entire body froze.
He stumbled backward while instinctively grabbing at the wound with both hands.
His breathing immediately became uneven and his legs weakened beneath him. He tried to say something, but only broken sounds came from his mouth.
Ethan saw a purplish pattern forming over his body.It was poisoned.
Such a cheap trick wasn't enough to kill them easily but now that they are imprisoned it was easier to take them down.
The sudden attack threw the entire command tent into complete chaos.
"Assassin!"
"Protect the commanders!"
"Stop them!"
Several Saint Realm experts immediately reacted while powerful auras erupted throughout the tent.
BOOM!
The tables shattered apart under the violent pressure while maps, reports, and documents flew everywhere. Chairs were knocked over and the large battlefield map in the center was torn apart as people hurriedly moved.
Ethan's face instantly changed.
"Shatad!"
He immediately tried to rush toward him.
However, before he could even take more than a single step, several more dark figures burst into the tent from different directions.
SWISH!
SWISH!
SWISH!
The tent curtains were sliced open as black-cloaked assassins rushed inside. Their faces remained hidden while every one of them carried a different weapon. Some held daggers while others wielded short swords, and all of them moved with terrifying speed.
Everything happened within a single heartbeat.
The mana-restriction cuffs around Ethan's wrists greatly slowed his movements. He immediately tried to evade the incoming attacks while twisting his body to avoid the first sword.
CLANG!
The blade scraped across the chain of cuffs that Ethan had barely managed to shield himself.
Another attack immediately came from behind.
Ethan bent his body forward just enough for the sword to whistle past the back of his head.
Before he could recover, a third attacker suddenly appeared at his side and thrust a short spear toward his ribs.
Ethan forcefully shifted his footing and narrowly avoided the strike.
His breathing gradually became heavier.
With his mana sealed and so many enemies attacking at once, his movements were no longer as smooth as before.
He could clearly feel the cuffs suppressing the flow of mana inside his body while every movement felt heavier than usual.
Inside the tent, the commanders also began fighting back.
Several Saint Realm experts immediately intercepted the assassins while others rushed toward the wounded Shatad.
Sword energy burst across the tent.
Magic spells exploded one after another.
The entire command tent shook violently under the continuous clashes.
Before Ethan could fully regain his balance...Another assassin suddenly slipped past the fighting commanders.
The opportunity appeared for only a brief instant.
A long sword thrust straight toward Ethan.
THUD!
The blade pierced into his side.
The impact forced Ethan several steps backward while sharp pain spread throughout his body.
His jaw tightened, but he did not let out a scream.
Instead, he immediately grabbed the attacker's wrist with both cuffed hands before the sword could go any deeper. His fingers tightened with all his strength while he desperately struggled to stop the attacker from pulling the blade free.
The assassin tried to retreat.
Ethan refused to let go.
The two briefly struggled against one another while more assassins continued attacking from every direction.
The entire command tent had completely descended into chaos.
