Path To Godhood Begins With Marrying Wife And Gaining SSS Rank Skill Chapter 663:The Omnious Surrounding

After taking a short rest, the Arcadian army once again began its march. The soldiers packed their tents, loaded the supply wagons, and formed neat ranks before moving forward under the command of the officers. Thousands of footsteps echoed across the rough ground while horses pulled heavily loaded carts through the muddy roads. The atmosphere remained tense because everyone knew they were now entering one of the most heavily fought regions of the war.
As the army continued advancing, the surrounding land gradually became more desolate. The once green plains had turned black and gray. Burnt trees stood like lifeless pillars while broken siege weapons, shattered armor, and abandoned weapons were scattered across the fields. The deeper they marched, the heavier the air became.
Ethan quietly walked beside Maverick while observing everything around him.
After another few kilometers, he suddenly frowned.A strange feeling slowly spread through his body.
His skin began crawling for no apparent reason, and an uncomfortable sensation settled deep inside his heart. It was not fear, nor was it killing intent. It felt dirty. Twisted. As though something invisible was silently watching him.
Ethan slowed his footsteps and looked toward the others.
"Do you guys feel that?"
Randall looked around in confusion.
"Feel what, My Lord?"
"This strange pressure."
"The air feels... wrong."
Noel carefully sensed the surroundings before shaking his head.
"I don't feel anything unusual."
Maverick also frowned and spread out his senses.
"I don't sense anything either."
The remaining knights nearby also denied feeling anything strange.
Ethan's brows slowly knitted together.
'What the hell is going on?'
He trusted his senses.
Ever since becoming both a warrior and a mage, his perception had become much sharper than ordinary cultivators. The uncomfortable feeling lingering around him refused to disappear, and instead it became stronger the farther they marched.
He quietly lowered his head while trying to remember where he had experienced this feeling before.
It felt strangely familiar.
The thought remained inside his mind for quite some time.
Eventually, the marching army came to a halt behind a large broken hill. Huge rocks blocked most of the view ahead while the commanders began discussing the safest route forward.
Seeing everyone temporarily occupied, Ethan glanced toward Maverick.
"Come with me."
Maverick nodded without asking questions.
The two quietly slipped away from the main force and climbed over the broken hillside while making sure not to attract anyone's attention.
SWISH!
A faint magic circle quietly appeared in the air.
The space rippled gently before two figures stepped out from within.
Maverick emerged first.
Ethan followed closely behind. The moment his eyes landed on the land beyond the hill...
His entire expression froze.
His pupils instantly widened.
The scene before him was horrifying.
The battlefield stretched endlessly into the distance while countless corpses covered the ground. Broken bodies lay scattered everywhere. Some had already decayed beyond recognition, while others remained trapped beneath collapsed wagons and shattered siege weapons. Torn banners fluttered weakly in the cold wind, and broken swords, cracked shields, and snapped spears were half buried in the dirt.
In several places, piles of bodies had been stacked one upon another because nobody had remained alive to bury them. Blood had long since dried into the earth, turning the soil into a dark reddish black color. Rotten flesh filled the air with a sickening smell while countless flies buzzed around the corpses. Bones protruded from beneath ruined armor, and damaged helmets still covered faces that would never open their eyes again.
The battlefield had become a massive graveyard.
Silence filled the land.
Only the wind continued blowing across the endless remains of war.
Even Maverick's expression became heavy as he looked at the horrifying sight.
"What a disaster..."
He quietly muttered.
Ethan, however, barely paid attention to the countless corpses. His eyes had already noticed something else.
Above every pile of dead bodies...
A faint layer of dark gray smoke slowly floated upward. It drifted lazily through the air without dispersing.
The surrounding ground had also become strangely corrupted. Black patches spread across the earth like a disease while the grass had completely withered away. Even the nearby rocks seemed stained by that strange darkness.
Ethan's expression gradually became colder.
His eyes narrowed.
He knew this phenomenon.
Far too well.
A single word escaped from his mouth.
"Miasma."
The moment he confirmed it, his face darkened completely.
"Fuckkk!"
The curse echoed across the empty battlefield.
Maverick immediately turned toward him.
"My Lord?"
Ethan kept staring at the dark smoke rising from the corpses.
His fists slowly clenched.
"Now don't tell me..."
"Those petty sons of bitches are involved too."
His voice had become unusually heavy.
A deep frown remained on his face while countless thoughts rapidly flashed through his mind.
Ethan remained standing there for several more moments while carefully observing the battlefield. The faint streams of Miasma slowly drifted through the air and gradually floated toward him as though they had sensed the presence of living beings.
However, before the dark mist could even come close, a gentle barrier of golden light quietly emerged from Ethan's body. The light spread around him like a transparent veil and completely blocked the Miasma from approaching. The dark smoke twisted and churned around the barrier for a few moments before slowly drifting away as if it had encountered its natural enemy.
Ethan quietly looked at the golden barrier surrounding him. He frowned slightly while trying to understand what was happening. After thinking for a few moments, he suddenly remembered the words Crown Prince Haster had spoken some time ago. The memory flashed through his mind, and several scattered thoughts slowly began connecting together.
From the very beginning, Ethan had always been curious about one thing.
Why wasn't the upper echelon of the Empire worried about losing the battle at the border?
Under normal circumstances, it should have been impossible for Arcadia to survive the repeated assaults without constantly sending reinforcements. Every strategist would have chosen to strengthen the front lines first.
Yet...
The Empire had done the exact opposite.
Instead of reinforcing the border, they had sent a large army through the long route across Xylos territory. At that time, Ethan simply thought it was an extremely risky gamble, but now the more he thought about it, the stranger it became.
It only made sense if something else was already holding the border.
His eyes slowly returned to the dark battlefield before him.
"With such a terrifying phenomenon spreading across this place..."
"How can the allied army cross it so easily?"
