My Wife Is A Miracle Doctor In The 80s Chapter 2: Car Accident

Previously on My Wife Is A Miracle Doctor In The 80s...
Tang Yuxin, a recently divorced doctor, grapples with the painful gossip surrounding her life while tending to her patients. As she navigates the whispers of her colleagues about her age and her past, she encounters Gu Ning, a former classmate now suffering from severe illness, who collapses in front of her. Their lives are interlinked through shared histories of heartbreak and betrayal, with Gu's ex-wife being someone Tang knows all too well. As she prepares to leave the hospital, the notion of "home" lingers as a bittersweet reminder of her solitude and loss.

Upon reaching the entrance of the residence, she retrieved a key from her purse. However, despite several attempts, the key refused to slide into the lock.

With a sharp “clink,” she tossed the useless metal into a nearby bin and simply stood there, waiting. She remained motionless for so long that her legs grew numb. It was only after a significant amount of time that the faint sound of approaching footsteps echoed from behind her.

“Why are you here?” A middle-aged woman rushed toward Tang Yuxin the moment she spotted her, grabbing her arm tightly. “Who gave you permission to come?”

“This is my home,” Tang Yuxin replied, her gaze fixed on the older woman. A trace of mockery played upon her red lips. “Mom, am I required to report to you just to visit my own house?”

“You and Yong’an are divorced,” the middle-aged woman shrieked in a shrill tone. “Your sister is pregnant now; stop causing trouble for her.”

“Oh…” Tang Yuxin toyed with her fingers. A deep indentation from a ring remained on one of them. She had sacrificed half her life for what that ring represented, yet now it was beyond recognition.

“I have been divorced from Zhang Yong’an for less than a month, and she is already pregnant?”

“Mom, your daughter is just as fast as you were.”

Suddenly, a sharp slap forced her head to the side. A searing heat bloomed on her cheek. She reached up to touch her face, which was rapidly losing sensation.

“Tang Yuxin, if you dare to harm even a single hair on Jiani’s head, I will not let you off.”

It was a blatant threat—a mother’s warning directed at her own flesh and blood. Tang Yuxin’s heart turned to ice. This was her mother, her biological parent.

She deserved this. Yes, she truly deserved it…

She had placed far too much faith in her mother, only for her mother to exploit her entire life. She had been far too trusting of people—specifically, these so-called relatives.

And she had placed far too much trust in a man.

Did Tang Yuxin even possess a family anymore?

She turned away, departing one step at a time.

The nocturnal breeze carried a bite reminiscent of early winter, even though autumn had only just arrived. The wind swept across the ground, swirling fallen leaves and carrying the desolate atmosphere of the night.

She, however, had no destination left.

She had lost her husband, and she had lost her home.

Raising her head, she inhaled a deep breath of the freezing air. Suddenly halting her steps, she pulled a mobile phone from her bag. She gripped it for a long duration but never actually placed a call.

She longed to say, “Dad, I’m sorry.”

But she lacked the courage to face him.

The biting wind continued to howl down her collar from every direction, causing her to shudder involuntarily. Her squinting eyes were suddenly stung by the blinding headlights of an approaching vehicle.

She scrambled to move aside, but the car, with its high beams blazing, charged toward her like a rocket. Before she could find time to react, the vehicle slammed into her.

She collapsed onto the pavement, her face pressed against the frigid ground. As she opened her eyes—which now looked like bottomless dark voids—she noticed the moths fluttering beneath the street lamp for the first time.

The moths threw themselves toward the light, over and over again.

They were just like her.

“Mr. Gu, this way.”

The door to the hospital ward swung open as a doctor hurriedly ushered Gu Ning inside. At that moment, Gu Ning’s complexion was so ashen he resembled a bloodless specter. He was clutching one of his arms with his other hand; it was visibly inflamed and swollen.

He stepped into the room, only to be met with the sight of a woman lying upon the hospital bed, her entire frame drenched in blood.
