My Wife Is A Ghost Exorciser Chapter 1459: The End (2)
Previously on My Wife Is A Ghost Exorciser...
Song Yan cast a frigid look at the corpse of the man who had perished under the heavenly energy of her familiar. With a casual flick of her wrist, she summoned her familiar back to her side.
She was not inherently a heartless woman, yet the Pillars cultivated by Duan He were truly monstrous. They had not only committed murder but had engaged in every imaginable atrocity within the realm of dark arts. Individuals such as these were unworthy of a peaceful end!
Fu Yu Sheng waited for his wife to finish her business with the dark arts practitioner. Although he possessed a strong desire to assist her, he quickly understood the vast chasm between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
While he had been busy dismantling minor arrays on the perimeter, Song Yan had already neutralized the dark arts practitioner. Regarding Xiao Bai, Song Yan had instructed him to keep the creature concealed for the time being.
She cautioned him that it would be highly problematic if Duan He discovered they had recovered memories of the past life where she had murdered them.
"We can eliminate the pillars one by one for now because she remains ignorant, which grants us a significant edge over her. However, if Xiao Bai is utilized, she will uncover the truth before long."
Song Yan’s explanation was so logical that Fu Yu Sheng found no room for argument. "Is everything finished?" He turned his gaze toward Song Yan. Xiao Bai, who was lazily draped around his neck, also lifted his head to look at Song Yan as she gave a nod.
"Let us return home," she told Fu Yu Sheng. Her eyes lingered on the wreckage where the dark master had been lurking, and she added in a hushed tone, "His companions will likely come searching for him soon."
Song Yan certainly possessed the power to wipe out the Pillars simultaneously, but doing so might prompt Duan He to flee. She was determined not to let that woman, who had cheated death repeatedly, escape her grasp this time.
Fu Yu Sheng nodded in agreement, and the pair drove away from the ruins that had served as the dark art master’s long-term Cultivation site.
Their departure was timely; an hour later, Pillar Eight and Pillar Seven arrived to locate Pillar Nine's remains. Their faces grew grim as they surveyed the carnage on the ground.
"He has been killed as well..." Pillar Eight spoke with agitation. He snatched up the cinnabar sword Pillar Nine had utilized on the altar for his dark arts and hurled it back to the floor.
They were at a loss as to who was hunting them. Initially, they suspected Gu Chenyi, but they were now certain it wasn't him, as Gu Chenyi had done nothing except organize a hunt for Shen Yu.
He couldn't be the one slaying the Pillars, so who was this mysterious executioner?
Pillar Seven also wore a dark expression. As the pillars fell one after another, their mistress was growing increasingly frail.
Duan He was now bedridden, her spiritual energy shredded into fragments. Her soul had been fractured by a curse inflicted centuries ago, and she had only survived by tethering her soul to those of the pillars.
As the Pillars perished, her soul was reverting to its broken, original state.
Even these remaining Pillars could feel their own energy draining away, as their very souls were bound to Duan He.
"What is our next move?" Pillar Eight inquired. Pillar Seven bit her lip and replied, "First, instruct everyone to relocate their hideouts and homes. It is clear we have been compromised."
Still, the identity of their pursuer remained a total enigma.
Pillar Eight and Pillar Seven stared at the gruesome pile of melted blood and flesh before activating a teleportation talisman, vanishing from the ruins. They were unaware, however, that a faint scent of the heavenly snake now clung to their garments.
***********
Song Yan let out a soft laugh when Xiao Bai informed her that the Pillars were fleeing and switching locations. She anticipated they would try to cling to their pathetic lives, but was that even feasible with her and the Gu Sect tracking them?
She promptly notified Gu Chenyi of the development, which resulted in the elimination of three more pillars within three weeks. Song Yan was not shocked to hear that several celestial masters from the Gu Sect had fallen in the process.
After all, the higher the rank of a Pillar, the more formidable their power.
"I will handle Pillar Two," Gu Chenyi informed Song Yan over the phone. Meanwhile, Song Yan meditated, gathering as much spiritual energy as possible before launching her strike against the survivors.
Song Yan opened her eyes once she felt her depleted spiritual energy had been restored. She asked Gu Chenyi, "What about Shen Yu? Do you not intend to deal with that woman?"
A sigh echoed from the other end of the line before Gu Chenyi replied, "Who told you that? Haven't you heard that the finest delights should be saved for the very end?"
....?
"I didn't realize you were such a twisted master," Song Yan noted, prompting a chuckle from Gu Chenyi.
"You're one to talk... you could easily storm Duan He’s Sect and slaughter everyone, yet you choose to kill the pillars individually just to make her panic."
"You even involved my Gu Sect to stir up more chaos. Isn't it because you want that woman backed into a corner, paralyzed with fear for her life?"
Song Yan neither confirmed nor denied the claim. In truth, she was savoring the sight of Duan He's growing desperation. While she wasn't sure why the woman hadn't made a move herself, Song Yan preferred this pace.
At the very least, when the time came for their confrontation, Duan He would be waiting in terror.
"You may do as you wish, Master Gu," Song Yan said, rising from the floor to summon Fang Yanli and her ghost disciples. "But ensure Pillar Two is finished tonight. I shall be handling One and Three myself."
Xiao Bai had trailed them, and the two pillars were currently together. Song Yan wasn't sure why they had met up, but she wasn't about to pass up the chance.
"Understood," Gu Chenyi said, looking at the man before him. Blood dripped from the man's forehead as he hung suspended in the air, bound by golden chains lined with razor-sharp spikes.
With every twitch the man made, a spike would extend from the chains and sink into his flesh.
"I will ensure Pillar Two dies this very night."
Gu Chenyi hung up and looked at Pillar Two, who spat out a mouthful of blood.
"Oh dear, I'd advise against struggling. The more you move, the faster your end will come." "You—why are you doing this?" Pillar Two managed to growl through the pain. "We never acted against your Sect, did we?"
"But you intended to, didn't you? Isn't that why you took in that woman, Shen Yu?" Gu Chenyi spoke calmly, his white robes and long hair dancing in the breeze. He looked down at the dark arts practitioner with his head tilted back. He remarked, "I am the sort of man who prefers to crush insects before they cause a nuisance." He had made the error of showing mercy once, as Song Yan had reminded him, but he would not repeat it. To do so would mean risking his life and the woman he loved.
Pillar Two glared at him with pure hatred. He hissed, "If there is a next life, I will not leave you in peace—"
His threat was cut short as the spikes protruding from the golden chains stabbed through his heart.
"A next life?" Gu Chenyi laughed. "Given the weight of your sins, do you truly believe you'll be granted another chance?"
He observed the bloodied, pierced corpse for a moment before tossing a talisman. it ignited instantly, reducing the body to nothing but black ash.
While Gu Chenyi finished Pillar Two, Song Yan arrived at the deserted village where Pillar One and Pillar Three were hiding.
She surveyed the village ruins and sneered, saying aloud, "Haven't you heard that you should greet your guests with proper manners?"
