The protagonist learns about the shop's utility section and purchases a map, which reveals nearby entities. He then proceeds to find and drink from four special trees, gaining stat boosts from each, before heading towards the final marker.

My eyes widened in surprise.

“So this is how influence is gained…” I whispered to myself, releasing a gentle sigh before making the display vanish.

Without a moment’s delay, I reactivated the map, with the intention of charting my subsequent course of action. However, the instant the overlay unfolded within my field of vision, I came to an abrupt halt.

The familiar display had undergone a radical alteration.

It was completely transformed.

Crimson markers now saturated the area surrounding my location, significantly outnumbering the previous ones. Each rapidly advanced, converging from myriad vectors towards my precise position.

For a fleeting moment, I could only gaze in stunned silence.

“You cannot be serious…” I breathed, my gaze sharpening as I tracked their swift trajectories. “The entire contingent is converging here.”

There was no longer any room for doubt.

The unified pattern was too precise, too synchronized. Every marker encroached from a distinct angle, systematically sealing off any avenues of escape without the slightest hesitation.

I let out a measured exhalation.

“Excellent,” I declared softly, a subtle smirk beginning to curve my lips. “This spares me the arduous task of hunting each one individually.”

I remained stationary for a beat longer, zooming in on the map’s details, scrutinizing the markers to ascertain their exact number.

Seventeen in total, all advancing relentlessly towards me.

This presented a different challenge entirely.

Engaging them simultaneously, particularly if they succeeded in encircling me, would prove far from simple. The terrain here lacked the necessary open space to contend with such a multitude without sustaining considerable, avoidable harm.

Consequently, I resolved not to permit such a scenario. Adjusting my footing, I selected a cardinal direction, fixating on the nearest cluster before initiating immediate movement, breaking into a full sprint straight towards them rather than awaiting their arrival.

My footfalls pounded against the yielding earth of the forest floor. I abandoned any pretense of stealth, charging directly into their path. Instead of masking the sound, I allowed the noise to herald my approach. My grip tightened resolutely around the axe as I rapidly closed the intervening distance.

Two figures breached the arboreal barrier first, both already in mid-charge.

I let out a fierce roar and launched myself upwards, channeling all my might into the ascent. The ground fractured beneath my powerful push, propelling my body forward in an unwavering trajectory towards the foremost adversary. It scarcely had a moment to register my presence before I collided with it violently. The axe plunged deep into its chest, the sheer force of the impact driving both of us downwards. We impacted the ground with brutal force, skidding across the loose soil, its form absorbing the brunt of the collision beneath me.

I sprang to my feet instantaneously, wrenched the axe free, and in a fluid, continuous motion, swept it across its throat. The sharpened blade sliced through with decisive ease, severing its head, which tumbled lifelessly away.

The second ape was already upon me.

It bellowed and surged from behind me. I sidestepped with split-second timing, its charge narrowly missing my flank. Pivoting sharply, I swung towards its exposed side. This time, however, it executed a nimble step backward, just enough to evade the sweeping blow.

“Ohh… rather astute, aren’t we,” I commented, a sliver of a grin touching my lips as I advanced once more.

My leg lashed out, connecting with its midsection and forcing it backward. Its footing faltered momentarily, a flicker of surprise crossing its bestial features. I granted it no opportunity to recover. With another powerful leap, I raised the axe high above my head and brought it down in a clean, unadulterated full-force swing.

The blade cleaved through its form from shoulder to waist, cleaving its body into two distinct halves that collapsed to the ground.

I exhaled slowly, drawing in a deep, replenishing breath as I regained my equilibrium. Then, my gaze returned to the map.

Three additional pursuers were rapidly approaching.

I crouched slightly and propelled myself forward once more, accelerating directly towards them. The surrounding trees became a mere blur as I moved, the earth groaning under the impact of each stride. Within mere seconds, they came into clearer view, charging towards me from the opposing direction.

My eyes immediately focused on the most formidable specimen among them.

“Impact Burst.”

The necessary energy coalesced instantaneously, channeling into my legs and surging downwards before erupting outwards in a single, explosive release, launching me through the air. One moment, I was a considerable distance away; the next, I stood directly before it.

My axe moved with blurring speed, preceding its reaction. Its head detached cleanly from its torso.

My body, propelled by the residual momentum, slid across the ground. I came to a halt, spun around, and faced the remaining threats.

The two remaining apes had momentarily frozen, their vacant stares fixed upon the strangely dismembered form of their comrade.

“Amateurs,” I scoffed, launching myself towards them.

Their resistance was fleeting. A few brief exchanges, a single perfectly exploited opening, and both succumbed before they could re-establish their offensive rhythm. I accessed the map once more.

Two distinct clusters remained.

Seven individuals were closing in from my left flank, and five were advancing from my right.

I zoomed in slightly, my attention drawn to a particular marker within the group of five. It was noticeably larger than the others, its presence distinct even on the digital display.

“That must be the primary target…” I mused, then shifted my strategic focus.

I elected to confront the larger contingent first.

Without a second thought, I spun around and sprinted towards the group of seven, plunging back into the dense forest as the gap between us dwindled with alarming speed. In mere moments, they became visible once more, positioned just wide enough to defend but not yet fully arrayed. My immediate target was the most formidable among them. [Monster Great Ape – Level 22] "Impact Burst." The technique activated instantaneously. I surged forward once more, covering the distance in the blink of an eye. My axe cleaved through its neck before the creature even had a chance to lift its arms. A notification materialized before my eyes, but I paid it no mind. The remaining monsters reacted without delay, forming a circle around me. Their levels varied, spanning from seventeen to twenty-two. I shifted my stance, preparing to counter, but they were now quicker. One emerged from behind, its feet emanating a faint crimson glow before it launched itself forward with preternatural swiftness. The distance vanished instantly as its fist impacted my back forcefully. The sheer force expelled the air from my lungs. I coughed out a spray of blood as my body was propelled forward, hurtling directly towards another monster that was already in mid-strike. Its fist also pulsed with the same red light. Before I could recover my balance, its punch landed squarely on my chest, sending me crashing violently to the ground. I instinctively raised my axe for defense. The impact shattered my guard. The blade was deflected, and the blow struck my chest directly, ramming me into the earth. For a fleeting instant, darkness consumed my vision. When it returned, everything was hopelessly blurred. [Warning! Health below 50%] "Damn it…" I rasped, struggling to stabilize my blurred sight. As I attempted to rise, a colossal hand seized my leg. Before I could even react, I was yanked into the air and forcefully slammed back onto the ground.
