My Living Shadow System Devours To Make Me Stronger Chapter 1257 - 1258: Fate [18]

Damon and Xander had Morticai in the center. His shadow was imprisoned, and it was designed in a way that slowly corroded his will to leave.
"What an insidious skill," he whispered, his voice sounding strangely loud within the confines of the Shadow Prison.
"This is a skill that was inspired by the Unknown God’s childhood. It’s designed much like a home where you do not desire to leave, and the longer you stay, the more of that desire you lose," Damon answered, his eyes remaining fixed on Morticai as he felt a bitter taste spread across the back of his throat.
His head was heavy, and his hands would not stop shaking.
It wasn’t just because he was injured. It was also because of the insidious amount of corruption he was holding in his hands. The vile whispers coming from the spear seemed to crawl directly into his mind, each one scraping against his thoughts and making his head throb.
Damon had once been corrupted and had turned into a being called the Lamenting Sage.
If there was anything he feared, corruption was up there.
And if there was someone he feared, then Unknown was the one.
It took a lot of courage to admit to being afraid, especially for someone as arrogant as Damon Grey.
But he was far past hiding his own fears.
After all, how else would he face them?
"Yes, I know of that. A shame, really. Those Archons failed to keep him in the crystal palace. He murdered his sister, reviled his daughter, and became the Unknown God."
Damon’s eyes widened when Morticai said that.
He felt his very shadow tremble when those words were spoken, as if a sour spot had been touched.
Ashcroft’s low voice suddenly sounded inside Damon’s mind.
"Unknown is watching us."
That was all the clue he needed.
The reaction wasn’t actually from Damon or Ashcroft or anyone else.
It was from Unknown himself.
He was watching through Damon’s own shadow, and those words had made him react.
Not that Damon didn’t already know he was watching them.
’Did you know anything about this?’ he asked Ashcroft.
"No. And to think that blind old man didn’t tell us any of this."
Damon glanced at Morticai with a frown, his grip tightening around the spear.
"Aren’t you afraid to provoke the God of the Abyss with those words?"
Morticai sneered as he looked at Damon, his golden eyes carrying no trace of fear.
"Why would he be offended by common knowledge? Everyone knows it. This is the Unknown God’s sin, the reason he craves punishment. But who can punish him? No one can. Why else do you think he believes that being born is the greatest act of cruelty? I don’t know what made the Weeping Star become the Unknown God, but that was the first step to it."
Damon noticed Morticai’s gaze lingering around the Shadow Prison as his eyes slowly moved across the darkness surrounding them.
"If you’re looking for a way out, there isn’t any. You’d have to kill me, and even then, I’m not so sure you can leave."
Morticai didn’t want to risk getting hit by the spear Damon was carrying, and until he found a way to counter it, he needed to stall for time.
"Unknown had a beautiful daughter. A beautiful angel. She was every bit her father’s daughter. She was loved by all except the one person she actually wanted to love her..."
"He’s stalling," Ashcroft warned in Damon’s head.
’I know, but I’m really curious.’
Xander was floating behind Morticai, his spear held loosely in one hand as he watched him. He then raised his other hand and made a small signal toward Damon.
"Right. Let me guess. She met her father in the Abyss and she got rejected..."
"Oh, so you do know. That’s just the half of it. The Abyss is a terrible place. The fact that she left the confines of the crystal palace to even go there in search of a father who never wanted her is testament to her will. I know I wouldn’t. No one braves the Abyss. The only ones who go to the Abyss are those who are cast there as punishment."
As he spoke, small golden flames began to leak from Morticai’s body.
They spread outward in thin strands, forming a wide net around them. Damon narrowed his eyes as he watched the flames quietly spread across the Shadow Prison, unable to tell exactly what Morticai was doing.
"When she went there, she met her father. Surely she believed he didn’t know she existed. And when he saw her in the deepest layer of the Abyss, his expression was one of disgust. The God of the Abyss deemed her the most disgusting thing in the Omniverse."
Morticai raised his left hand as if he were trying to give Damon a clearer picture of the scene.
"With his left hand, he pulled the Sword of the End, Nemesis Omega, sheath and all, and cast it toward her. The sword impaled her chest, and the two vanished from the Abyss forever."
"When she reappeared again, she had changed her name to Nemesis Omega, Angel of the End, and carried the sword on her back. Should she ever draw it from its sheath, the Omniverse as we know it will come to an end."
"That is Nemesis Omega, Angel of the Abyss."
Just hearing that story made Damon’s eyes widen.
Then Morticai smiled.
His eyes flashed, and strange runes suddenly appeared all around them.
"I call forth the divine power of Obamion, God of Purity. Render thy judgment on these vile beings and purify this world with your wrath!"
The moment those words were spoken, Xander had already thrust his spear toward Morticai.
Morticai merely waved his hand.
The entire world inside the Shadow Prison suddenly illuminated with golden flames, and the violent force sent Xander flying backward. His shield glowed bright red as the flames washed over it, and he gritted his teeth while forcing himself to stabilize his body.
Damon cast the spear in his hand toward Morticai, but a brilliant purifying power rushed toward him, filled with an endless wrath.
When it reached him, it wrapped around his hand and began to encroach upon the spear.
Damon’s eyes narrowed.
He was just about to let go of the weapon when he suddenly felt a burst of another type of energy coming from all around them.
From the very world itself.
The moment he sensed it, Damon paled.
He knew this aura.
Beads of sweat gathered across his forehead.
Then that energy descended.
It crushed the spell Morticai was casting.
Morticai gritted his teeth and instinctively shrunk back, his golden flames flickering violently around his body.
"Goddess of Doom," he whispered.
Both energies faded.
