"Qiao Yue?"
The girls jolted upright from the operating table, her firearm now pointed directly at Austin. It was the very pistol Su Xun had so generously gifted her. The young lady positioned behind Qiao Yue then swiftly removed the lifelike human mask from her face, revealing a countenance of remarkable gentleness.
"Godfather, my sister perished because of you. You have earned this fate."
It was none other than Jin Lu.
Austin, his wound now bleeding freely, simply smiled at Qiao Yue. "It matters little. I shall now activate the remote, and you shall be reunited with your foolish mother. That which I cannot possess..." "Godfather, just as I managed to impersonate Minnie right under your nose, I was also capable of locating the miniature bomb you planted on me. Godfather, you truly were too naive."
Qiao Yue’s body teetered on the brink of collapse; however, with the assistance of the bed, she slowly managed to stand. Qiao Jing approached, his presence offering her support.
"When Qiao Jing rescued me back then, the miniature bomb that had been affixed to me had already been neutralized," Qiao Yue stated, her gaze fixed on Austin. "I never placed my full trust in you, Godfather." Austin, his expression one of disbelief, pressed the remote control numerous times, yet nothing occurred.
He turned his attention back to Qiao Yue, a self-derisive smile gracing his lips. "But do not overlook this, Qiao Yue: you were administered a potent amnesia-inducing drug. Even if your memories resurface, how can you be entirely certain that your affections will still align with Qiao Jing?"
Qiao Yue responded with a smile. "That is of no concern to you. Godfather, your sole remaining destination is hell, where you can offer your apologies to my mother." With a deliberate motion, Qiao Yue raised her hand and squeezed the trigger.
The bullet found its mark, striking Austin square in the temple.
The instant the shot echoed, Qiao Yue slumped, utterly spent, into Qiao Jing’s embrace.
"Cease speaking. I shall carry you home now," Qiao Jing whispered, his voice thick with emotion as he carefully lifted her into his arms, his heart aching with every beat.
Qiao Jing had, in fact, never disembarked from the cruise ship. He had encountered Jin Lu aboard on the very day of boarding. Subsequently, he had arranged for a substitute to take his place and leave the vessel. Following this, he had established contact with Jin Lu, leading to the formation of an ambush within the very operating room Austin had meticulously prepared.
"The drug is indeed real," Qiao Yue murmured weakly. "Upon awakening, I shall have no recollection of who you are." Reaching out, Qiao Yue’s fingers gently traced Qiao Jing’s face, as if attempting to permanently imprint his image within her palm. "It is alright. I will seek you out." Qiao Jing gazed upon the woman he cherished, her consciousness rapidly fading within his hold. He clasped her hand, pressing it firmly against his heart.
With those words, Qiao Yue's eyes fluttered closed. The ship continued its journey, while those who had narrowly escaped a perilous ordeal began their descent via the lifeboats. Above them, the silent stars bore witness to the scene unfolding beneath the vast, infinite expanse of the sky.
Three years later...
L-City, a sun-drenched haven in M-Country, proved an ideal locale for both recovery and leisure.
Within a charming seaside dwelling, styled with a vintage aesthetic, a young woman stirred from her slumber.
The windows had been left ajar the previous night, allowing a gentle sea breeze to whisper through the curtains as the morning sun cast its warm glow upon her.
She retrieved a roll of bandages from the bedside table and carefully wrapped them several times around her neck.
Prominent scars marred her neck, and numerous others were scattered across her body. After concealing them with bandages or cosmetic treatments, she rose and tidied the room before making her way downstairs.
"Good morning, Qiao Yue," greeted Mrs. Annie, who was occupied with preparing breakfast in the kitchen. She offered a warm smile. "You have no classes scheduled today; why are you awake so early?"
"I am planning to visit the beach with Jin Lu today, which is why I woke up early," Qiao Yue replied, quickly consuming a piece of toast.
She had arrived in L-City three years prior, suffering from complete amnesia. Whispers suggested she was the scion of a prominent family from C-Country, who had been sent abroad following their family's downfall.
However, this past held no weight for Qiao Yue. She was diligently pursuing her studies in M-Country, embracing the life of an ordinary international student. No familial obligations intruded upon her peace. Regularly, and with unwavering punctuality, living expenses would appear in her bank account.
Following her breakfast, Qiao Yue hopped onto her bicycle, heading towards the beach. At a busy intersection, she unexpectedly encountered a man engrossed in holding a substantial bouquet of roses.
The gentleman was attired in a black sweater, with his bangs falling softly across his forehead. The roses he carried had spilled onto the ground in disarray.
A subtle, enticing aroma of a tropical plant emanated from him. Qiao Yue paused, inhaling the scent, and then carefully observed the man.
He possessed striking good looks, characteristic of men from C-Country, with stern eyebrows and sharp, defined features.
"Might I inquire about the fragrance you are wearing?"
"It is derived from round-leaf eucalyptus," the man replied with a smile, meeting her gaze.
The man's voice also struck Qiao Yue as remarkably familiar. Extending her hand, she introduced herself. "Hello, my name is Qiao Yue."
"Qiao Jing," the man responded, a smile playing on his lips.
The distinctive scent of round-leaf eucalyptus wafted through the air once more.
"Did we perhaps know each other previously?"
